I thought the alternate ending was interesting, but I definitely prefer the final film version. I didn't like how Ariel was unconscious for pretty much the entire scene. I think having both her and Eric present while having the giant Ursula made for an epic finale, one of the best Disney climaxes in my opinion.

I wish disc 2 would've been a little fuller, maybe its just because I'm a die hard for promotional stuff. Or maybe its because previous PEs have had more extensive bonus features. It has enough I guess, but it could've used more. Since the demo's are available on "music behind the magic" (which I already have anyways) they should've at least included them.

I was also sad to see that there was no promotional/publicity gallery on this release. I always love see the poster concept designs. It would've also been good to include the 90s "making of " special w/ Alyssa Milano, the McDonald's commercial, tv spots, and the other trailers over the years. But considering I have all of those from original tv airings on vhs (except the 1998 trailer) I might just have to stick those on a DVD-R and put it w/ my PE

First off, let me say that I can't believe I never noticed the difference. lol. I think it's because this movie came out when I was 4 and I've had the soundtrack and VHS since that time, so I never paid that much attention to it. However, that is weird and I see why they would have different dialogue on the soundtrack. Although, I've always found talking lead ins to songs on soundtracks annoying unless they are necessary. In this case, I don't think it's at necessary to have it on "Part of Your World," but it is for Sebastian's opening to "Under the Sea." I kind of wish they would remove it and on the youtube video of Jodi Benson singing the song at the recent El Capitan premier, she even opens the song with those lines.

Anyone else agrees with me that the virtual ride is one of the best featurettes to ever grace a Disney DVD? I was totally awed at the amount of thought and detail put in this ride.

And as for the movie, it was a sheer joy watching it. I was a bit surprised though that no alterations were made (i.e., add detail and redraw). But since most of us are purists, I guess it's a good thing.

But there is one little alteration: The priest's knee was edited.

Okay well I just finished watching TLM PE, and I am incredibly happy with the restoration its amazing. Im about half way done with the bonus features and from what ive seen ive enjoyed. Although one thing I wish they included was "full Color character artwork" on disc lol.

One thing that bothers me is that I can't seem to zoom in or out from the menus. They appear to be presented as in "full screen" and not "widescreen".

Sorry if my question sounds weird but I'm not that good with DVDs so if anyone can help i'd appreciate it.

Yea, I noticed that one too, however I never noticed it in any other release. Since we're on the subject, I'll once again ask and see if anyone else on here has heard the rumor surronding the scroll. I read years ago that in the scroll signing scene at the top of it in the letter "I" at the beginning, there is a supposed "violent" hidden mickey.

I don't have the different screencaps handy, but you can tell in the old release, and in some earlier merchandise items that have a pic of the scene, like books and trading cards, that there seems to be some sort of drawing and visible mickey shoes in the swirly, intricate writing , but it is so hard to make out there's really no telling that its even there. On the PE I zoomed in, and I didn't see anything. However, you can see that the scroll changes from a "swirly" type letter to a block letter in the next shot. Anyways, Its just been one of those dumb disney urban legends I've heard over the years, just curios if anyone else had ever heard that.

It was indeed mentioned in the commentary tht the shark was suppossed to come back and Flounder was going to defeat him on his own but it got scrapped pretty early.

The Hollywood Reporter says that X-Men: The Last Stand has become the biggest October DVD debut ever:

The fourth quarter reportedly got off to a bang this week, with both high-profile DVD releases that streeted Tuesday -- 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment's "X-Men: The Last Stand" and Buena Vista Home Entertainment's platinum edition of "The Little Mermaid" -- exceeding sales expectations.

Industry sources peg combined consumer spending on the titles to be more than $80 million, making Tuesday the biggest fourth-quarter opening day in the history of home video.

" 'X-Men' is outperforming our projections," Fox senior vp marketing communications Steve Feldstein said. "We had high hopes, and it's even outperforming those. This is a terrific start for the quarter. These two titles created a perfect demographic storm at retail."

Industry sources put first-day sales of "X-Men" at 2.6 million units and "Mermaid" at 1.6 million units. Those figures include sales to rental dealers and account for about 30% of inventory, significantly higher than normal.

Because I know that people have asked, I wanted to share that YES, the lithographs from the website ARE different than the Disney Store ones. They arrived as pictured on the site...the promo still of Ariel looking towards the surface with Sebastian and Flounder floating by her (sold on AllPosters as "Ariel, Listen To Me!"), Ariel and Flounder listening to Scuttle explain a dinglehopper, Ariel plucking petals from the sea flower ("He loves me! He loves me not..."), and Ariel and Eric surrounded by the 'fountain fish' during Kiss the Girl.

The lithographs sound beautiful. Well, I've seen on them the website , but still they must look way better on paper. Are they a decent quality?

I got mine today, my dad went abroad for 3 weeks, and he got it for me . The best thing is that he mentioned to a girl setting up a display that 'his daughter wanted the dvd' and she gave him a poster and some badges she had spare. How nice is that? The poster is proudly hanging off my wall now.

I watched the majority of the bonus features early on today, I really like the DVD as a whole, especially 'The Little Matchgirl'. I'm half way through watching the movie now!

My disneyshopping.com copy came today. I'm glad it didn't take until the end of Octorber like the e-mail said. Anyways, the paper quality of the lithographs seems cheaper and thinner than in the past. However, the plushes are nicer and the pin is cool. In the end, I'm glad I paid the extra $10 for the bonuses. lol.

how many dvd's sold the other Platinum editions?

This is pertaining to the soundtrack. I used to own it on casette and upgraded to the 2-CD set on Tuesday. I listened to all of the first disc today and noticed something. The "Poor Unfortunate Souls" reprise sung by Venessa on the ship before the wedding isn't on the soundtrack. What's more is that the score behind it is! The singing is absent. The track is called "Wedding Announcement." I don't feel like digging for my old casette from the original release, but have all releases of the soundtrack been like this? Why wouldn't they include it? It should have been. I love the reprise.

Yep. Mine (from 1997) is the same way. No idea why, but due to disc space, soundtrack CDs typically don't contain all the score anyway, especially for a long film. (Mermaid isn't really long, but still.)

Yea, and I just checked on the original release cassette, and the "music behind the magic" final version and its the same way as well. For some reason I guess the reprise was never released w/ the vocals. Which is a loss...
