Too many menu games, and the transfer was crap and discolored.
If it included the original 1994 theatrical version (with a better-looking transfer) instead of the 2002 IMAX version, and if trailers and TV spots were included as special features, THEN it would have been "the King of DVD".
Nah, it'd still be missing quite a few materials: retrospective interviews with the voice cast, a more cohesive documentary as opposed to the mini-docs, deleted scenes/concepts that were discussed in the commentary but didn't make it to DVD, and a navigation system that would make sense to DVD aficionados and virgins alike.

Of course, it'd probably also be better if the movie was halfway decent...

Well based on what we know about Sleeping Beauty the Blu-ray will have:

CineExplorer: So in effect a commentary with picture pop-ups. Again, now Bonus View is implemented this may include proper PiP content too.

An all new making of (so Disney can say it's in HD. I doubt the existing Making of from the Platinum Edition) was filmed in HD.

Downloads of add-ons (you have to pay for)

One or two Java games

My guess is it will pale in comparison to the 2001 release.

just more games and less extras. I fear for galleries and trailers.

Do you think so? I would just assume they would up-res most of the existing content. Maybe not? What do I know?

I see a lot of people on here with Doctor Who avatars! Series 4 this Saturday on BBC1! :)

Disney are very good at producing full HD supplements for new movies, and I expect for "Big" catalog re-releases. Sleeping Beauty is getting a new "Making of" as it appears several new interviews have been filmed.

Given the somewhat poor documentries on most of the recent Platinum releases, I doubt this is because Disney want to "improve" on the Special Edition DVD's supplements just for the sake of it (after all, they did sod all for Peter Pan). I think its more because they want to advertise a full HD supplement on the box.

I've just reread that, and it sounded a little cynical. I'm not really critisising Disney for doing this, if that is their motive. I just wish that they had the same commitment to quality on their normal current DVD releases.

I kind of hope they do a new transfer for the next release of Snow White. The 2001 was good, but several shots were blurry and the movie was kind of over-compressed.

As for the Lion King DVD, I thought the transfer was very good (my VHS doesn't work, so I can't compare the changes bewtween that & the IMAX version on the DVD). The thing I hated about it was the bonus disc. Whoever put it together must have been drunk or on drugs, because it was so unorganized. A bunch of the same things were on different menus over and over. It gave me a headache going through it! Luckily they seem to be making the bonus features more organized on the later releases.

just throwing this out there but now that the cylce has pretty much ended, as in they are back to the beginning of re-releasing previous platinum editions, and since they are still adding new titles, could they possibly release more than 2 a year? I mean only if they were releasing new ones and maybe one extra a year that had been previously released years before?

I would love that. Who knows? They did decide to release 2 instead of 1 each year, so maybe they will eventually realize that they should release 3 or 4 per year.

see to me it seems like if it has already been released as a platinum edition releasing it again isn't as big of a deal as it is the first time it is released. I mean sure it is a platinum movie but still. to me they should release the new one as the 2 spring and fall releases and do a winter christmas or summer release for one previously released pe. to me that makes a lot more sense. but that's only my opinion too. but the way i see it there are kids who may be 7 or 8 before they get to see beauty and the beast or snow white. i can't imagine that. not being able to grow up with those movies would be awful.

That's the main thing I don't like about this whole "release cycle". It's like people have to tell their kids, "Oh, sorry; I know you want to see that movie, but you'll just have to wait 5-7 years".

No No No No No!

The quality of the Platinum editions has already suffered once they released two per year rather than one.

This is the last thing you want to happen to the Blu-ray releases, especially as now they can do so much more with the extras with just a little imagination and a little coding and authoring time. The last thing I want is Disney to be crapping out animated classic Blu-rays with the same lack of thought and imagination as they're crapping out animated classic DVDs now.

The re-release of Snow White situation is kinda similar to the platinum edition of Sleeping Beauty replacing the S.E.. So I guess we'll see how they might handle it in terms of how much is ported over from the already existing features and how much is new when SB PE is released.

Personally, I think it should be identical save for a possibly hi-def restoration for the blu-ray, and all that BD-live jazz.

For the DVD, could add some feature about the release of the original DVD, and how it started the platinum line (). And a new, better cover etc.

In any case, I hope they either don't re-release it till the line is complete, or only release Pinocchio and Snow White next year, and Beauty and the Beast/Fantasia in 2010, keeping the 2 release per year schedule. Although that would mean not getting Alice in Wonderland P.E. till 2011, a good 3 years from now.

ps. I'd love to see Peter Pan replaced by Meet The Robinsons

I'm hoping beauty and the Beast gets released next year. Sure Snow White is the original Disney fairy tale but isn't Beauty and the Beast the most beautiful love story of all time? ha. No but seriously it's probably got the best plot of all the animated disney movies and not to mention it's beautiful to look at. who knows what a restoration could do for it.

The 1080p resoloution is enough to keep me satisfied really ! :)

But I hope they have a feature that talks more about the story's origins
(Germany) and it's hidden meanings (like representing Eve as Snow White and the Queen as the Devil, since they both were tempted to take an apple and they both did) like the bonus feature in the BATB PE, that would be really intresting to me.

True, but why mess with perfection, the initial 2-disc dvd-release was just perfect, the best disney dvd ever to be exact, both in terms of visuals/sounds as well as extra's, the only thing I'd like to see more of is the voiceactors:

Jerry Orbach: Lumiere
Angela Lansburry: Mrs. Potts

This said, I'd like a new GOOD Lion King release instead!

Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs is the DVD/Blu Ray tile I'm really loooking forward to - I really can't wait to see what the newest extras will be on this 2009 release!!

I hope like the laserdisc release it'll include the pencil test animation for the Boil Cauldron Boil ( Witch At The Cauldron ) sequence that , incredibly , was missed off the original Platinum Edition DVD release !!!
