Yikes! I can't vote for that one. :D

What's my excuse: I got a job working for myself (10-12 hour days, 6 days a week) It's a long story. I'm trying to fix the situation, until I can successfully transition, my forum participation will be limited.
Zoltack wrote: I mean there are at least 100 maybe 500 people who joined and never posted once. Getting rid of them might allocate some more bandwidth. That's what I think anyways.
Actually I would vote for deleting names of people who registered and never posted like say after about a year of registering. That might actually free up some good screen names, eh?

But if you already have a screen name why would you need another one. :?: , I can see deleting a member who has never posted anything after a year though. :ears:

UD statistics:

Getting back to the list of members and number of posts on the forum -

There are a bit over 3000 members - almost 1000 never posted once, although probably some will within the next few days.

There are even a few hundred who only posted once.

Only a relative minority of about 800 posted 10 times or more.

Only about 425 posted 50 times or more.

Only about 280 posted 100 times or more.

You think that some of these 1,000 members who never posted once are going to post in a few days???

Why do you think that? Is that because they are brand new registrants? I would think that if someone registers and they haven't posted even once within 6 mos. they are probably never post, in that they registered and for whatever reason will never come back.

As for the mysterious Jack person who won last year in that (what was it?) special award category (I guess for member of the year?) maybe he just got some lifestyle changes that made him drop off for now... unless he got mixed up in a controversial topic in off-topic and someone made him mad or insulted him, I would assume he is probably just very busy with stuff that came up in his life.

I'd say of those who posted 50 times or more, but have left the site, they lost interest as well, or no longer have the time to post.

So of the "hardcore" forum members (those in the 300 or more posts range), how many of those would you say there are? Of course this is really splitting hairs too because you could have recent members who are becoming regular posters who could end up dropping off in a year, or you have brand new members who couldn't possibly be in the 300 or more range as of yet, who show potential of becoming a "hardcore" member... it gets difficult to predict.

But I would say if they registered and only posted once and you don't see them for 6 mos. they are likely not coming back. (Disclaimer: I've never ran a forum on a website and have no idea what I am talking about) :D

But for a website that maybe has 100 or so hardcore members, this forum is very very active - look how many topics and post there are. Don't know if the forum could handle, say 500 hardcore members posting that frequently.... and I bet people would not get to know each other as well as they have if there were that many members and that many threads....

Yes, I'm referring to some of those people who just registered and have not posted for the first time yet. I would not expect anything from those hundreds who registered months or even years ago and never came back.

Those with 300 posts or more are in the top 145 - and, may I add, those with 185 posts or more are in the top 197...

A study of the numbers shows that there are people who were very active for a while and then stopped. Some have posted more in a few months than others have in years. Others are more stable over time.

wow, you have something like 145 members who have posted 300 or more - Are these all currently active or is that too much work to determine? If they are currently active than what this is saying is the forum has about 145 members who are currently active and "hardcore" - that is much higher than I thought would be the case. That is a large active community for a forum.

That would be harder to tell in exact numbers, but I think we can say that far from all of them are "active" as of now. After a glance at the top 145 on the list I'd estimate that at least 10% (maybe 20%) of the names are no longer posting regularly - some certainly not at all. But that still leaves way over a hundred - and even some with less than 300 posts deserve to be taken into account as well, of course. :)

And there's new people who join and take there place; if you have a revolving door of about 100 people as regular posters, that is a pretty active for a forum, I'd say. And its hard to guess if a person has quit the forum for good or they just got busy for awhile and will come back in a few months.
