Wow! I don't show up for awhile and all sorts of stuff pops up!

I know the drama llama has been put to rest, and we need to move on (and have been told to move on)~ but as an artist, feminist, and pro-gay rights I must insert my two cents before showing off some Disney art.
Kyle wrote: if that were true you'd see gays kissing in Disney animation. it is innappropiate in my opinion. its not a double standard.

Just because Disney does not animate it, does not make it inappropriate. They are not the be all, end all of what is right and wrong. Disney's animated movies reflect the (American) society standards of the time. From passive princesses (Snow, Aurora), to free thinking princess (Belle, Jasmine), to kick butt girls (Mulan, Kida). Woman's rights and their roles in society changed, and that reflection is seen in the movies (as one example). So, perhaps in 10 (in all honesty, it'll probably be longer than that) or so years, we will see a Disney movie about a gay couple~

So, it is a double standard~ we flinch at two males kissing, but we go "awww" when it's heterosexual, and we fall over each other trying to take pictures when it's two women. If we want our children to understand it's okay to love someone who is the same sex as you, we can't go "Ick!" at same sex relationships. Disney is pro-gray~ they have Gay Day at Disney World!
Steven132 wrote: One is to arouse the sexual feelings while the other is to be looked upon with the higher levels of intelligence (thought, emotion, to tell a story, historic)
Have you seen the works of Dali? Not The Persistence of Memory, but works like Young Virgin Auto-Sodomized by Her Own Chastity and The Enigma of William Tell. They both have phalluses in them. They are considered works of art, and considering Dali seemed to have a Freudian nature about him, he used that imagery to provoke thought about sexual feelings. Or Frida Kahlo, she has some paintings that can be considered thought provoking sexual feelings~ though in a more horrific, self degrading way (reflecting a painful experience she had as a teenager). Oh, and talk about sexual and thought provoking~ there is an artist in Australia who paints with his member~ I believe he works in acrylic. And I will just throw out a couple more names who create works of art, but they are sensual in one way or another~ Boris Vajello and R. Crumb.

And, there are many renaissance paintings of half nude or completely nude woman that were commissioned by men to hang above their beds or private parlor. I will let you guess what they did in front of those said paintings when the door was closed. Now those paintings hang in art galleries around the world for us to admire and ponder their meaning. Back in the day they were, basically, porn. Really REALLY expensive porn.
PeterPanfan wrote:And the Greek statues are works of art. The pictures you posted are nothing but poor, explicit drawings which someone thought would be funny.
Or perhaps they created the art to make other people mad and talk about it (AKA thought provoking conversation). I can't say that's what the person had in mind with the explicit drawings (I didn't see them), but people don't have to create realistic or even "beautiful" art for it to be art. There is an artist who swallows his paint and then vomits it up on a canvas. Art. Another artist took a piece of human feces, put it on a pedastal, and sat it in the middle of a room in a gallery. Art. And another artist drew silhouettes of the different shadows from windows as the sun moved throughout the day. Art.

I should stop now~ I know I'm disobeying the "move on" idea~ but I wanted to speak. The only images I saw where the first two of Aladdin (which is still up) and the Aladdin/Herc kissing scene (which I thought was ubber cute, and is down). I didn't see any of the linked images, so I can't comment on those. But, sex IS in art, a lot~ so amorous feelings and thought do go together. Actually~ they don't even have to~ the whole point of Rococo was to create "beautiful" things, it had nothing to do with thought. I have an artist friend who hates Rococo because it is so frivilous.

And now...back to the point at hand...Disney art! I did a "Through the Ages" with some Disney art....though I didn't go as far back as I could have. I think the earliest stuff in this is from... 1997? I have earlier works...but I think they're in a box in a closet, or under some stairs.

Oh yes~ and LathronAniron, lovely Disney drawings! I think the Screen Siren of Belle is my fav. The Herc comic, I recognize a lot of the poses of the characters from the movie (not that I can say much, a lot of my older Disney stuff was from looking at the characters in poses in books and such).

Next time I post~ it A. won't be a thesis, and B. will be NEW Disney art (whenever that may be is to be determined...).

Thanks Yukitora! ^_^

Last night I had a strong desire to draw something with horns and wings~ so I sat down and drew a gargoyle~ she ended up not being any specific Gargoyle character really~ but I blame Disney's Gargoyles for all my gargoyle fetishes. ^_^

Image

It sort of looks like she's looking at a sun rise...which would never happen in the Gargoyle world, but I wanted it for dramatic lighting...

Drawn with blue pencil, inked with India ink, colored in Photoshop

Thanks :)

I worked on her last night for 2 hours~ got her drawn and started inking. And then this morning finished the inking and then colored her in~ probably 3 or 4 hours today~ so about a 6 hour project from start to finish.

GG21 draws these AMAZING sketches and stuff in like 15-20 minutes or so....seriously! I'm like, "What the...How did you do that?". I've spent hours before flipping through her sketchbook...... I see that and envy the talent.

Did you check out her webpage? I'm not sure that she has posted any Disney fanart (last time I stopped by her site they were all original character designs), but you can see some of her other stuff.....

I just looked at her website and that stuff is amazing! It is really good! I wish I could have gotten a closer look on "Forbidden Love". Reminds me of Disney's Gargoyles and Beauty and the Beast at the same time.

I still can't believe you did that in one night! Especially to look that awesome! You are really talented.

Thank you. ^_^

Here's a close up of Forbidden Love~
Image
This one was actually for an art contest, the theme was "Gothic Romance". I was inspired by Gothic Cathedrals, and the gargoyles/grotesques that are on Gothic Cathedrals. The cathedral in the background, and the guy gargoyle represent Christianity. The fairy (fae, faery, however you want to spell it) represents the pagan religion~ along with the crescent moon, it was often attributed to the goddess. Pagans and Christians didn't get along back in the day, so these two have a "Romeo/Juliet" sort of romance going on.

My website has 5x7 and 7x10 prints of this piece available~ but I think Forbidden love is better suited for an 11x14 print. It has so much detail in it, the smaller sizes don't do it justice...I just need to FIND some good quality 11x14 archival paper to create prints out of... :ninja:
