A Disney animated short called "Self" has recently been
rated. I'm not sure if it's a WDAS or Pixar short, but maybe that one will be play in front of Wish.

I don't particularly care if the short plays in front of Wish or not, but I do hope it gets released on Blu-ray/4K either on the Wish home video release or on a new shorts collection.

I’m really confused by this move. I thought for sure Disney would want their 100th anniversary short to play in front of their 100th anniversary movie? But if we are getting a surprise extra short with “Self” I guess I can’t complain too much.

same here. Both things celebrate the studio. But whats really strange, wasnt it confirmed somewhere that Asha herself will be also part of the short

?? It would somehow be tied to the movie, but it would also reduce the realness of the story (of Wish afterwards) so with this im a bit sad and glad at the same time. Also I cant wait to hear more about Self, the title sounds cool somehow

Well, it makes sense it won't play in front of Wish in theaters if it'll already be on Disney+ by then. Perhaps that new short is really good (supposing it's from WDAS and will play before Wish) and they decided to send Once Upon a Studio to ABC/Disney+ and release this one in theaters instead to have a better chance at awards.

I think that Once Upon a Studio is sort of one long commercial for Disney, including Wish, that they might have wanted people to see it as one way to market Wish and to get them interested in the movie, so it makes sense to air it and then put it on Disney+ instead of putting it in front of Wish in theaters.

well that's lame, this short was the only thing that made me want to see wish in theaters.

Will it be a short or a featurette like Olaf's Frozen Adventure?

A short. It's only 9 minutes.

Well, Asha also appears in it, right? So, maybe you're right.

What song do they sing together at the end of the short?
"When you wish upon a star" or "Feed the birds"?

I am fully convinced its When you wish upon a star

, because its also the song Disney promotes in the parks and it always plays in the intro sequence of mostly every Disney movie to date. With this song they can easily blend in the Star from Wish, where all Disney characters gather together and look up into the night sky singing, while the Star slowly approaches them and maybe he glides into the camera at the end and they could promote it like that saying "meet the newest members of the disney family in theatres: Wish coming November 22nd" or something

I cant wait for you to jump on here and complain about it even if that was the song. I highgly doubt any of you are actual fans of anything disney past 1999.

I have been staying out of this thread to avoid spoilers, but I did see the trailer on YouTube and the animation is wonderful! Tinker Bell looks like she did in the original film. But the good fairies get squashy and wonky and Ursula does not look like her original movie counterpart, but a direct-to-video thing! She's even actually prettier than that, originally! But that animation and camera movement with Peter Pan and the Darlings is amazing! I won't come back I to this thread till after I see the short, but thought I'd say that stuff. I'm excited for it!
EDIT: Thank you Sotiris for moving this from the "Wish" thread to the right place!

Jennifer Lee talks about the short being released on ABC:
Jackson Murphy: How do you feel about “Once Upon a Studio” being showcased to millions of families on an institution like “The Wonderful World of Disney”?
Jennifer Lee: Well, the idea of it being released to the world on the [100th] anniversary itself… For what it’s meant to do, it’s a “Thank You”. It’s a celebration but a Thank You. We know that across the networks you can reach so many people instantaneously… and respecting and loving that. That’s the whole point and goal of “Once Upon a Studio” and how it’s rolling out: to get it to as many people all around the world in as many ways as people to say “Thank You”. It starts there. I couldn’t be happier about that because that’s all we wanted.

If they had really wanted it to reach to as many people all around the world as a "Thank You", they would have released it on YouTube instead of Disney+.

Its a "thank you for paying for our crappy steaming service".
In all seriousness, I fully expect it to be released on youtube in full (officially) very shortly after the premiere.

The majority of the 2D characters are horrible off-model. Can't no one draw anymore at WDAS? So embarrassing.
