Q: Pirates 6 has gone through so many iterations. Why has it been tough to crack?

Jerry Bruckheimer: Oh God, they’re all hard. I think we’re getting very close on that one, too. We have a very good script. We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully we’ll get both of them.

Q: But Robbie said in an interview the project wasn’t happening.

Jerry Bruckheimer: It’s alive for me. It’s alive for Disney. I’m sure she was disappointed it didn’t go first — or maybe not because she’s very busy, so it might be a blessing to push this a bit. We believe we’ll get it made. It’s a very strong story.

Q: Does the recent trial outcome make Johnny Depp somebody a studio like Disney would put front and center again in a Pirates sequel?

Jerry Bruckheimer: You’d have to ask them. I can’t answer that question. I really don’t know. I would love to have him in the movie. He’s a friend, a terrific actor and it’s unfortunate that personal lives creep into everything we do.

Q: Depp has hinted that if he were to return, the film should have a clear ending for his character. But would you ever kill off Jack Sparrow?

Jerry Bruckheimer: You can’t. We tried to kill him. It didn’t work.

To be honest, I am kind of excited that there is a 6 still in the air... but a Norrington spin-off? No thank you. I think I'll pass.

I think Jack Davenport was obviously joking.

That and Norrington is dead. :brick:

I kinda thought it might be a joke... but then Toy Story 5 is a thing now... and I just don't know what to think anymore!

Besides, Barbossa was dead too. Really, half of the characters have been some sort of dead. Death means nothing in the Pirates Universe. In fact, to make this work, he should be dead-ish. He should come back as a ghost of British Past, or a banshee. The movie should also be a musical. I can hear it now!

"What's that on the poop deck? It's Norrington, yeah!" *cue jazz hands*

:P

Restarting the five-film “Pirates of the Caribbean” series is another priority, although nothing official has been announced. “We think we have a really good, exciting story that honors the films that have come before but also has something new to say,” Mr. Bailey said. Will the franchise’s problematic star, Johnny Depp, return as Captain Jack Sparrow? “Noncommittal at this point,” Mr. Bailey said, seemingly inching the door open.

Depp ditches Disney! Johnny is refusing to ever return to Pirates of the Caribbean because he's still furious at studio for dropping him during Amber Heard abuse case, despite rumors he could get $20M to reprise role of Captain Jack Sparrow

That narrative is BS, his movies stopped making money for Disney and that’s why they dropped him— it had nothing to do with his ex. I will say I thought the circus around the trial was distasteful and misogynistic and it has left me with a very bad impression of Johnny Depp. I have no desire to monetarily support any new movie of his ever again.

I don't think that's accurate? They were making one last film--POTC6--that was to be a reunion between Knightley, Bloom, and Depp. They dropped him because of Heard's since disproven claims.

Rumor: Ayo Edebiri Eyed To Star In New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Movie
https://thedisinsider.com/2024/02/04/ru ... ean-movie/
The film will revolve around a Black female character named Anne (which RPK also says could be a codename), and a group of much younger pirates searching for a new treasure.

So naive to think the public will accept a Johnny Deppless PotC.

Just give it a rest.

This is what he said.
It's not true, there's no "Replacing Depp" or anything like that. She's only the "Type" they're looking at for the lead in one of the planned spinoffs (not the Margot Robbie one).

Another insider had this to say about the project.
I looked into it and Pirates of Caribbean 6 will be set in part in Haiti and the female protagonist will be Haitian. Also they do want Johnny Depp to come back just not as the lead.
