The descriptions for these new stills reveal a couple of new details about the movie:
Image

In Disney and Pixar’s “Soul,” Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx) is a middle-school band teacher whose true passion is playing jazz. When he gets lost in his music, he goes into “the zone,” an immersive state that causes the rest of the world to literally melt away.

In Disney and Pixar’s “Soul,” a middle-school band teacher named Joe finds himself in The Great Before—a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22, to show her what’s great about living.

In Disney and Pixar’s “Soul,” a middle-school band teacher named Joe Gardner gets the chance of a lifetime to play the piano in a jazz quartet headed by the great Dorothea Williams. Featuring Jamie Foxx as the voice of Joe Gardner, and Angela Bassett as the voice of Dorothea, “Soul” opens in U.S. theaters on June 19, 2020.

I really dig the designs for the souls. Their whole world looks very creative, including the beings in charge. It definitely seems like it has that Pete Docter touch to it and I love he's incorporating elements of 2D animation in there.

Yeah, I have more interest in eventually seeing Onward than this. Pete Docter is the only reason I'm going to keep my expectations open (well, and Phylicia Rashad). So far I'm not feeling what I see, but I loved Inside Out and Monsters, Inc. Then again, it could be like Up, which I mostly didn't like. I mean, I love the introduction with Ellie and Carl is a great character. On the other hand, the little boy was unbearable, and everything once they reached South America was.... Eh. Not fun.

Oh, Tina Fey and Angela Bassett are in this, too? I must've forgot that. I like both of them as well.

yes, but that seems to be what everyone here thinks, too!

Ah, so we are in agreement about the beings in charge and the creativity of the Great Before!

I think Angela Bassett hadn't been announced until now.

Yes, the world and the characters in charge look really creative. The designs for the souls are not bad, but they look a bit too simple in my opinion, especially Tina Fey's character.

It also sounded like Richard Ayoade's voice on the being who says "Meet 22" at around 1:09 in the trailer, even though he hasn't been officially announced yet.

I also hope Pixar reveals what those things in charge are called soon, because I want to start calling them by their proper names.

I agree with all of this. :D I definitely prefer Ratatouille to Up and WALL E. Ditto to Inside Out and Monsters, Inc. being two of their best films.

I wasn't sure where else to post this, but since they're probably close to finished with "Soul", it seemed like the most appropriate place. Pixar has shut down the studio and employees are now working at home.

I assume the same holds true for Walt Disney Animation Studios and Blue Sky Studios, even though the article doesn't mention them.

It makes sense. They probably finished with voice work, score, sound, etc... So they basically only have to do the animation and the computer stuff and all of that can be done working from home.

From what I've seen from old videos of John Lasetter, the studio is very well prepped for working at home. They can do just about anything they would in the studio.

As of now, Disney and Pixar’s animated offering “Soul” has not budged, and is still set to arrive in theaters on June 19.

Eeep. Especially with the virus impacting Onward, I would've thought they'd have moved Soul out a bit more. With my asthma, even if we get the "okay" to go out, there's no way I'll trust the world by June! This might need to be the first Pixar movie I don't see in theaters if they keep that date... :(

Aw, I hope they move the date, or somehow this pandemic stops well before June. I guess hoping the date gets pushed back is more likely.

I think Disney is handling the schedule all wrong. They're being delusional if they think the pandemic is magically going to abate by June/July. Even if theaters reopen, it's irresponsible to put audiences in harm's way. In my opinion, Disney should have written off 2020 completely and rescheduled all of their pics for next year.

I think they're just reserving the dates before other studios take them in case there's a chance the situation has improved by then. The Hollywood Reporter says the following regarding the announcement:
Sources at Disney note that release dates for all films could continue to move given the uncertainty over the global health crisis.

I think that if the virus continues, Soul will be moved to November and Raya to March.

Like everyone else, I can't see this release date not being pushed back. A June release sounds outrageous especially when Pixar's other offering, Onwards, already suffered at the box office.

I would be surprised if Raya got moved to early next year. I think they wanted it to have a special spot if they put it in the Thanksgiving/Christmas area. I don't know, I just think they would probably put it in the summer over the spring. *shrug*
