That's absolutely hilarious! I wish I was there to see that. Perhaps if someone videotaped it, they could include it as an easter egg (pun not intended) on the Passion DVD.

Speaking of the DVD, it's rumored that the movie will be in a 2-Disc set (yes!!!) and will available either in September or October.

A Special Edition of the film (for the UK, but I guess America will get it the same time being as the original release was close release wise)

Its due mid Feb so far.

It's great to finally have some sort of a release date attached to it. What I'm most interested in is a commentary by Mel since this film was such a labor of love for him, and practically every frame of this film has some sort of symbolic undertone to it. Here's what I'd like to see on the disc:

Disc One:
* Audio Commentary by Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel (and, if possible, Maia Morgenstern and Monica Belluci)
* Audio Commentary by Mel Gibson and Cinematographer Caleb Deschanel
* Isolated Score (unlikely, but I'd still love to see this)

Disc Two:
* "Making of" Documentary (either the excellent TV special that was amazingly non-promotional, or a brand-new one)
* Deleted Scenes (preferrably re-inserted into the film since from what I understand, only little bits of more graphic violence was cut, and having that isolated as bonus material would seem too slight and awkward)
* Screen Tests
* Costume and Make-Up Tests
* Special Effects and CGI Tests
* Dialect Rehearsal Footage (footage of the actors learning and practicing their Hebrew, Latin, and Aramaic)
* Multi-Angle Dailies
* Press Conference Footage (if there was a press conference)
* Premiere Footage (if there was a premiere)
* Inspirational Art Gallery (pieces that inspired the film's look)
* Concept Art Gallery
* Behind-the-Scenes Photo Gallery
* Publicity Still Gallery
* Trailers and TV Spots (including the rough trailer meant for film studios that ended up online, giving most people their first view of the film)
* Easter Egg: Gag Reel (yes, a gag reel would be out of place and almost crass for a film like this, but think of the remarkable footage that can be shown here such as when Jim got struck by lightning or when he was actually whipped by accident on the set - stuff that's been confirmed as caught on film)

That God fellow is quite the jokester! First no one sees him around the set even though he supposedly wrote the movie. Then he pulled that lightning gag on Caviezel.... What a barrel of laughs!

Ok, so calling it a gag reel isn't exactly the best idea ( ) but it'd still be cool if some of that footage appeared either as an easter egg (come on, a film about the final hours of Christ MUST have easter eggs!) or put in as part of the "making of".

ok, continuing with back up week, Aaron mentioned that if the Spec Ed included the extra violent scenes, he'd like if possible for it to have both versions of the film in it (original and violent cut trims) And i replied I would hope so, that that was one of the original promises of DVDs (and seamless branching), so it should be used more often, since from the days of Laserdisc it was possible to program in cut scenes and trims (albeit with a slight freze/pause in the image o the LDs).

I also told Disneykid that if it didn't have the isolated score maybe he could get it (in this or many movies) by turning off the center chanel and the surrounds depending on the way it was mixed, or using something caled OOP in audio circles for movies with stereo only soundtracks.


Then, Loomis comenting on the impending Easter release date wrote something like this: (paraphrasing) Jesus has the best marketing, that's why he is so popular I wonder if the Passion of The Jew will have also a special 2 disc edition on that date.

True, but rumors that were circulating at DavisDVD.com back in the summer were saying it'd be a 2-Disc with Mel himself being an active participant in creating the supplements. Considering how big the film is and how much backstory there is to it (as well as how excellent Fox's SE's are), I'd be surprised if the SE was a single disc affair.

I'm bumping this thread up to include a bit of info someone found at HomeTheaterForum. L.A. Studios, Inc. mentioned a Passion commentary being recorded in their sound booth recently in their "What's New" section:

Margarita Mix de Santa Monica continues to broaden its scope and recently recorded and mixed DVD commentaries for high profile titles including: Alexander, Heat, Passion of the Christ, Ray, HBO's Deadwood, Alfie, Collateral, and the Matrix trilogy special edition box set. Our booths have also been busy replacing dialogue on Focus Features soon to be released Ice Harvest and HBO's Sex in the City.

This is starting to get rather tiresome. So many little clues and rumors have been pointing to this release, yet Fox still has yet to make any mention of it. Obviously, it's too late for it to be coming for Easter. Perhaps it'll be released in the summer (a year after the original DVD premiered)?

I saw it several months ago. Rented it, didn't see it in theaters.

I personally did not see what all the controversy was about. Was it sad? Yes, of course it was. A man who was trying to nothing but good on this earth was tortured through his final hours.

Was it over the top violence? IMO, no. I've seen a lot more violence, blood, and gore in a B-horror flick. I think the whole reason so many people felt it was over the top was because it was happening to Jesus. I read those passages, it doesn't give every detail, but if you read the history of the Romans in that time, that WAS how people were punished. It's just because over all these years, we get tons of movies about Jesus and it goes: his birth, some childhood, his teenage years, his years as a man, his death (done very quickly), and his ressurection.
Frankly, I think so many past movies on his life skipped so much of his death or even sugar-coated it that we forget that he actually went through immense pain and blood loss. I think Gibson was a genius to show us how that time in history really went. Roman torture was cruel beyond all belief.

Anti-Semetic? Though I did SEE why some would believe that, I didn't feel that way.

And in case any of it matters, I am neither Jewish or Christian. I thought the movie was beautiful and well done, but I don't think it lived up to the controversy.

Hmmm I think I could watch it again but I don't have terrible interest in doing so right now. I enjoyed it but to me it's one of those movies I was satisfied watching once, iked it but not one of my favourite movies.

Did anyone hear about the re-cut version that is coming out in theaters around easter? Personally, have no interest in seeing this film in any version, I'm not religious at all. Just thought it was an interesting bit of news. Mel Gibson was afraid the original versions intense violence might have kept some people from seeing it.

It never premiered in Israel. . . With all the hype surrounding this, I really wanna see it!

Yeah, it's definitely not something that I want to watch over and over, just because it takes such an emotional toll to experience it. I can see watching it perhaps once a year or so on my own accord and sometimes with people who have never seen it, but it's not something I'm going to watch every month.

Yeah, that's what I heard, too, but I don't think that's happening anymore considering Easter's about 3 weeks away...

Double blech...that movie was not my cup of tea. However, I respect Mel Gibson's artistic choices in the film...
