I am still thinking of passing up on it! Any coupon for this re-release?

If this was going to be on blu-ray I would have so picked it up. :)
No coupon that I know of... I'm thinking about getting it, but I haven't made my mind up yet. With a coupon I would have been more tempted, but with a eventual Blu-ray release sometime in the future I don't know if its worth it.

We haven't received Alice in Wonderland and, from what I understand, we won't be, nor will other outlets. Strange but (provided it doesn't show up in the next few days) apparently true. And our reviewers only got the Toy Story Blu-rays last Wednesday, so it's not as if they're dragging their feet.

Is this the first instance that a classic receive an almost quiet release? It's kind of depressing how Disney regards- or rather, DISregards the films outside of the Platinum and Diamond Line.

I dunno, I've been seeing commercials all over TV lately.

Well if anyone picks it up tell us if it has any new features, if it drops any features, if it advertises a Blu-Ray version, if it is indeed a new restoration and if it has any trailers for Black Cauldron, Fantasia and any other release that we know nothing about.

Simple really. :P

As it seems we arnt getting this over in the UK :( I was wondering if someone could tell me how the movie is being pitched in TV spots and such ? Are Disney just going on the connection to the Tim Burton movie, or are they letting Alice shine on her own merrits ?

Going to import this over from R1 as soon as its on amazon.co.uk .... I'm not missing out on yet another non - R2 Alice Special Edition !

The current TV commercials are appropriately selling it as Walt Disney's original classic without mention of the Burton film - - while adding that it's "just in time for Easter" - - footage mostly features the Mad Tea Party and the White Rabbit.

What a relief to see some classic, bright and colorful Walt Disney animation on network TV again, even if just in these tiny spots!

Thank you merlinjones ! Its a great relief to me thay are showing how wonderful the original is, and not plonking it on the back of Burton's coat tails .....

Have you enjoyed the disc, msh1975 ? Is there anything lost from the Masterpiece Edition ?

atlanticaunderthesea, I also picked up a copy of Alice In Wonderland (yes I double dipped again  ) The dvd is pretty much a repackage of The Masterpiece edition the only new bonuses on the set is the following

Reflection on Alice

The Pig and Pepper

The rest is bonuses from The Masterpiece Edition...

In other words...*sarcastily* Disney you've done it again

Oh, I'm sorry it wasnt as good as you had hoped, Mason_Ireton ! But it wasnt even a Blu Release, so I guess even including new stuff, is kinda good on Disney's behalf ! Sad though that is ......

What's the 'Reflections of Alice' about, if you don't mind me asking ?

Disney truly sucks with their DVDs.

I expect when Blue-Ray becomes more popular than ever, Disney will haf-ass its releases as well.

No sweat atlanticaunderthesea, I probaly would've settled for audio commentary on the film.

Relfections on Alice: a semi 40 min ( I believe) behind the scenes of the inspirations for Alice's movie career (startin with the 1903 verison, they dip alil bit into the castin but just for Kathyrn Beaumont and Ed Wynn (best Mad Hatter) they also discuss Mary Blair's concept arts too (a real treat) along with showin David Hall's orignal story treatment (complete with artwork)

Overall I'd give this new edition a 7/10

I thought it was advertised as a new restoration? Is it not then?

At least nothing was dropped from the Masterpiece right?

Yes the picture/sound is fully restored, all the Masterpiece bonuses return from I'm Odd (deleted song) to the art gallery.

the bonuses are also closed caption :)

I'm definitely going to pick this up. I might wait a week or so though, I just bought The Hunchback of Notre Dame last week.

I never got around to buying the previous edition so I'll probably pick this up.

Sounds interesting, but a bonus feature or two isn't worth double dipping for me. I'll just wait for the eventual BD.
