In 1996 I have started a my private database for films. I will show you some statistics:
With Disney I call all media that do belong to the Walt Disney Company, Pixar Studios, and DVDs that are in focus of UltimateDisney.
Disney DVDs: 196
Disney Videos PAL: 192 (84 I have spend childrens). I have 108 left now.
non-Disney DVDs: 70
non-Disney Videos PAL: 23
Each film on each media have an entry in my database. I will only show the films with an English soundtrack. You have to keep in mind that one film may count more than one time.
If one film has 2 film formats 1.33:1 and 2.35:1 it counts twice!
If I have one film on limited DVD and Gold collection DVD it counts twice!
If I have one film with two different English soundtracks it counts twice!
My Database show about 10 % too much. Keep this in mind:
Disney films: 1040
Disney films with commentaries: 48
Disney sing along with Disney music videos: 316
non-Disney films: 564
non-Disney films with commentaries: 45
non-Disney sing along with music videos: 192
The Disney Company were very creative in making Disney cartoons. In my database are 485 cartoons listed. This is 47 % of production!
The rise of DVD has brought 83 reports of film production or theme of interest in this database. This is 8 % of production!
There exists 98 shows. This is 9 % of production. With show I mean entertainment special for TV (Muppet Show, Walt Disney TV Show, Mickey Mouse Club...)
There exists 64 stories. With story I mean films like the series of little mermaid, Aladdin, Bonkers... But these count is only on DVD.
Really great and surprising is the amount of stories in the bibliographic part of my database: 847!
The most stories are been send on the TV network and I don't collect them on DVD!
My database can make a chronological listing of all film productions. Lets take a look into production between 1928 and 2006. A few things are really of interest:
1928 to 1953: This is the age of classic cartoons. They are most of film production! Between them I see all the other production of Disney in that period of time.
1954 to 1965: I see a lot of TV: Mickey Mouse Club, True life adventures, Disney Shows. This is a new time. The impact of the new parks has changed the style of production
1966 to 1984: Drop of production between Walt's dead and entry of Michel Eisner. (But the database don't show any quality! There are really good productions in this time!)
1985 to 1996: A remarkable time! Really great and fine productions!
1997 to 2006: More reports and stories. We see a lot of activity to "feed" the people with magical stuff. But keep in mind that every entry counts!
Have a great Disney day!
