Also, as I mentioned previously, if Jodi had to go, the only person I would ever want to play her is Sierra Boggess. And you know Sierra would be beyond overjoyed at the opportunity, and be respectful and loyal to the part.

That didn't sound like Jodi (like Ariel!) at all. But then again, I guess we just accept that Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora sound like themselves (usually) after time has passed with new voices, right? But that new Ariel sounded much too... whiny maybe? Something was off.

*********
*edit* A simple thought I had yesterday- Disney's "forgotten" princesses (Tiger Lily, Eilonwy, Kida) don't sing. Coincidence?

If Disney thinks that Jodi's voice is sounding a bit aged (and if you hear her sing Part of Your World now, it definitely sounds different, not bad, just not very youthful) I would suggest they use Liz Callaway. Liz is actually one year older than Jodi, but her voice hasn't aged a day and sounds a lot like a younger Jodi.

I second that. I really hope Ariel doesn't start getting voiced by the same actress who plays all three of Walt's princesses.

Merida didn't actually sing either and she's in the line anyway.

I think that Jodi Benson is still doing Ariel's voice.

Look at this new Disney Store Ariel singing doll:

It's Jodi singing! And this is the new upcoming Ariel doll for this holiday season.

I must admit that has lifted my spirits about all this ! Thank you for posting.

Though the recording is the one used before, in the other singing doll, no ? So I guess a case can't be made for this ….. :? I only say that as Mary Costa provides the singing voice on the Aurora doll.

If they are still with Jodi (they SHOULD be with Jodi), then why bother with a cheap soundalike for that random doll ?

Maybe that other doll was a prototype and the audio wasn’t the final one...

But then again, why not use the movie audio like they did with Elsa?

I don't know... but it's a great thing that they are using Jodi Benson for this new Disney Store Ariel doll.

I really hope she is not being replaced anytime soon.

I'm truly hoping this is the case; there isn't any need to replace her yet at all. I wish Jodi had some social media accounts where we could ask her.

Unfortunately, she's not exactly young anymore.

I know, but the change isn't in her voice like it was with Paige. Heck, Alice and Wendy were still voiced by Katheryn until quite recently !

For example, Harley Quinn. In the whole animated series, the Batman Beyond movie and even the first Batman Arkham game it was Arleen Sorkin:

And then, she got replaced for Tara Strong...and to be honest, I can´t tell the difference:

Voice replacements usually bother me, unless the replacement does a REALLY spot on impression (and the original isn't available or declined or some other legit reason other than they weren't bothered to reprise the role). Tara Strong is actually VERY good at being Harely Quinn IMO. I think that if I wasn't so good at distinguishing voices, I wouldn't have even noticed. That's how you do a recast right, you get someone who sounds so good that the fact that it's not the original isn't distracting.

That Ariel doll did NOT sound good at all though :(

Sierra Boggess should play the role if Jodi has gone, as I said before …. she brings life and vitality to Ariel. She brings her character shining through, and she adores Disney and Ariel. This would be a wonderful, and even respectful thing to do for the character. Just not some generic sound-a-like.

Belle is an example of this; if it wasn't working with Paige, they should have stuck with Susan. A respectful and wonderful transition. Not this dull voice (I can't even deal with the singing) that we now have.

Still not sure of the truth to this rumor , but Paige said she wouldn't be surprised if it were true

I know she's in your picture, but wow, do you know Paige to chat to ? How wonderful ! Did you ask her then about whats happened ? What does she think of her own voice replacement ?

EDIT : Sorry, that was a lot of questions, didn't mean to sound rude !

As much as I love them and would love to see this happen, Sierra nor Susan sound like Paige and Jodi. Sierra could get away with it because of her youthful tone with Ariel, but Susan's voice is way too mature for Belle.

Well Susan has played Belle for the longest time … I think she still sounds pretty darn similar to the BATB Broadway cast recording and her subsequent recordings as Belle on Princess CDs / games etc.
