Lucylover1986 wrote:So can someone tell me what's going on exactly with amazon.com? I was going to pre-order The Little Mermaid but now they list the price as $29.99 so now it's going to be at that price until the DVD comes out? I really don't understand why Amazon has jacked all the Disney DVD's up to regular price.
No one but an Amazon spokesperson can say for sure, but it sounds like it's a temporary test to see how willing people are to sacrifice price for convenience. Apparently, all Criterion DVDs were raised to full list price for a period of time not long ago, but they have since reverted to standard discounting. I would assume that <i>The Little Mermaid</i>'s price will come down sometime in the five and a half months before it is released and thus orders placed at the ridiculous current price tag will automatically be adjusted. But no one can say for sure. I was surprised to see the <i>Narnia</i> DVDs raised to SRP the day of their release. Amazon must be pretty committed to this pricey BVHE test!

Seems like there's roughly a 48-hour window of opportunity in which newly-listed titles receive a 30% preorder discount before their price is adjusted. It's really the only way to get around the full list price deal at Amazon. Though <i>The Little Mermaid</i>'s passed, if a gift set becomes added, you should have a day or two to lock in that discounted price even if this madness doesn't end anytime soon.

Prices going up? Amazon must love me. I just got this email:

We are pleased to report that the price of the following item
has decreased.

"Little Mermaid (2pc) (Spec)" [DVD]
OLD PRICE NEW PRICE
$20.99 $19.96

Your order total will be adjusted accordingly, and when the item is
shipped, the amount you pay will reflect the new, lower price(s).

TLM must have a gift set because this is one of the best movies Disney ever made.
I don't understand why Disney starts with something and then they don't finish it, because if they started to release gift sets for all october releases then they should continue with that and if they want to stop the production of gif sets please don't do that when the best movie is going to be re-released on a special edition DVD. :x

It seems to me that while Disney was doing their cut-and-paste hack-job of the original cover for retailers, they sloppily pasted blown up Ariel over the original Ariel, not realizing that the former's fingers could still be seen. Why can't Disney just give us a nice, high-res image of the cover we're actually going to get?

That's kind of weird. I always imagined her only having five. Oh well.

Those aren't Ariels fingers, those are her daughter Melody's fingers.

No wait, they help Ariel swim faster lol.

News from DVD Active with the same piece of artwork:

"Disney Home Video has released some early artwork for a two-disc special edition of The Little Mermaid, which features the voice of Broadway star Jodi Benson. The set will be available to own from the 3rd October, and should retail at around $29.99. The film itself will receive an all-new digital restoration, along with a Disney Enhanced Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. Extras are expected to include deleted scenes, a "The Story Behind the Story" featurette on Hans Christian Andersen, "The Making of The Little Mermaid", an all-new music video, a sneak peek at The Little Mermaid III, and much more. We'll bring you the full specs at a later date. Stay tuned. For now though, here's some early package artwork. The final version should be pretty much identical, but without the 'New 2-Disc DVD' and 'Limited Time Only' banners".

So she's still going to have seven fingers? Ahh, man. Oh well, what was the Limited Issue aspect ration of TLM? It'll probably be the same, right? Anyway, I still can't wait! October seems so far away from now, I'm already freaked out about how much money I can spend. I'm saving up for the Gift Set, if BVHE actually gives it one. Why did they do that, that past October's, besides Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Beauty and the Beast, all got Gift Sets. If it doesn't get a Gift Set, I guess I'll just have to go with the DVD. I hope the transfer is great, and that the Supplemental Features will be awesome, just like the movie. Ahhh, I still can't wait!

It was a non-anamorphic 1.66:1, and we're most likely getting the same, except anamorphic (and restored and remastered and every other technical bit)

Little Mermaid Gift Set....Please?....

I've got the Snow White "book" gift set from the UK.
And the Beauty & The Beast...well, nice fold out cardboard thing,
Plus all the other gift sets.

So i'd like a groovy Little Mermaid Gift Set too.
It'd look nice.

I'd also like Madonna to bring her Confessions Tour down to Australia.

And World peace.

Lets see how we go.

I'm sorry she's not bringing it to Australia. She puts on one heck of a show. I'd like her to bring it closer to Oklahoma. I've been to her last two tours, but, it doesn't look like I'll make it to this one. I just can't afford it, with having to travel so far to see the show.

Don't tell me this Lost: The Complete Second Season, Command in Chief: The First Complete Season (confirmed by tvshowsontv) and The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition on the same day that's crazy what is Disney thinking!!!!

Yeah kids will get TLM:PE but the parents will get Lost which cost more.

Also Grey's Anatomy: The Complete Second Season could be against Smallville Season 5 possible (Smallville's best season yet) but it's not confirmed usually lands on this day for release.

Despereate Housewives: The Complete Second Season did a great move but possible against Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin and The Tick.

Okay that's my two cents for today.
