geez, it's like they're running out of ideas so they have to continue with these sequels and all that?
I think, people at Disney just got EXTREMELY lazy. There are THOUSANDS of stories around the globe that can be made.
If Disney made a masterpiece with The Little Mermaid being a 4 page story, it's not like they can't do better with way much better stories.
And besides, there are LOTS of people that use something called
imagination.... Pixar for example, to create new stories.

If WDFA is doing it... then will it be an animated classic? This doesn't make any sense... Just get back with Pixar already, sheesh

Even if they got back with Pixar, I seriously doubt Pixar would help in working on a Toy Story 3.
And I agree, a "road trip" movie sounds stale. In the end, this thing is going to turn out like their latest DTVs - enjoyable to watch, but very light in substance.

Hold on, Disney are making original films. More animated "original" Disney films are under developement now than perhaps at anytime in the histroy of the company (and these are only the ones I can remember/know of):
Chicken Little
A Day With Wilbur Robinson
American Dog
Rapunzel Unbraided
Fraidy Cat
The Wild (perhaps)
Gnomeo and Juliet (perhaps)
The Snow Queen (perhaps)
Admittedly, the last 3 seem to be in development limbo for now, but it still leaves a whopping five "original" films under development at Walt Disney Feature Animation.
And what happens when Disney do make original films. People complain that they are too different (Home on the Range) or too similar to past Disney films (Brother Bear).
Ok, so Disney has a few sequels. So does
every studio in the world, since cinema began. Disney are still comitted to new ideas.

The only thing that worries me is what this will do to Pixar's reputation. Everyone these days knows who Pixar is. Even those who aren't fans of Disney or Pixar will hear a name like "Finding Nemo" and know "that's Pixar." Disney hasn't done very well in the sequel market, and people know it. But Pixar's Toy Story 2 is known to be almost as good as the original. Some people believe other CGI movies like Ice Age and Shrek to be Pixar's movies. How many more will think that Toy Story 3 is Pixar's and not Disney's, considering it's a sequel to their own movie? So, if Disney makes this movie without Pixar, and it's quality reflects most of the other Disney sequels, that can hurt nothing but Pixar. I don't want Pixar's reputation harmed because Disney just threw something together.
However, if it's going to be a theatrical release like they've been saying, I'd say that there is a chance for Disney to put more work into it and produce a better film. Also, it sounds like they didn't just come up with an idea and make the film right then and there. They looked over several scripts and chose the best. That gives it a slightly better chance as well. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Maybe we'll be surprised!
...but maybe not...

You must be kidding.
A few sequels? Disney filled his quota of sequels, long, long, looooong ago.

me too.
today i was shopping at walmart for stuff, and every time i shop there i visit the media section, and today i was there and walked right by Aladdin II & III and didn't even get the urge to even pick it up, the only disney sequal i do own is Lion King 1 1/2 and Lion King 2.
i love Toy Story 1 & 2, but if Disney doesn't make a good enough film, i will just do the same and walk right by Toy Story 3 and not look back.
it is funny that there are people like us (me also) who take our movies so seriously, we obviously want quality but other people could care less.

Others filled their quota long before Disney. If you are comparing, compare fairly. And it still doesn't alter the fact that Disney are working on at least 5 new original movies at this time (and probably a lot more -
Lilo and Stitch was worked on for 1 year in secret by only 2 people).
What does it matter if Disney are producing sequels. You just decide not to watch them if they don't interest you. It's not like Warners was forching you to watch "Police Academy 8: Mission to Moscow" or Columbia is forcing you to watch "Baby Geniuses 2: Super Babies". So why is Disney any different? They are obviously going to release as many "new original" animated movies in the next few years as they have at any other time in their history.
New toy Story 3 plot: WTF???

Did you guys read the enw plot revealed by orlando Sentinel (on the frontpage of UD)???
"the adventures of buzz Lightyear as he is recalled in taiwan where it has been built"
Is it a big fat joke? Or more patheticlly, the only way Disney has found to not have to pay Tom Hanks to give his voice to Woody again, as the story seems to focus on Buzz?
Day after day, this movie sounds more awful...

i also agree that that plotline sounds farce
pray that Bob Iger and Pixar will talk and pull the plug on all of this!

I preferred the idea that the <i>Meet the Fockers</i> writer discussed about Andy's mom dating, and the toys having to deal with a whole different gang of toys. This sounds less exciting.
But in any event, I think it'd be better for everyone if Disney handed the project over to Pixar and they (Pixar) made <i>Toy Story 3</i>. They've got the characters modelled in the computer. They're proven they can do amazing things with animation and writing. And I'm sure that they could do a <i>Toy Story 3</i> right. It's inevitable that there will be another <i>Toy Story</i> film, but I'd rather see it done right with people like John Lasseter than simply see it done with Bradley Raymond and other people who have made some decent and good 2-D animated films for theaters and video but have not yet approached the brilliance seen in Pixar's films.
A good third installment will ultimately be more profitable than a bad one. It's short-sighted to start churning out sequels to Pixar films (which has got to annoy the creators) without figuring out if there is a future to the Disney/Pixar relationship and what that future is. These do not seem to be projects that are creatively being called for, but rather seeing how far brand recognition can go. Two sequels dominated the box office last year, and the sight of Buzz and Woody will get people to come. But everyone can do better if Pixar is involved in this, at least to some degree.

That sounds cool but even if they did go with that I still wouldn't watch it unless Pixar is involved.
Recently Disney has been getting on my nerves

100% with Luke! The most positive thing that oculd happen is that Disney let PIXAR do what they want to do with their characters (by renewing a deal).

While I am in agreement with Luke and Kin about Pixar doing it I dont think you can judge whether a movie is good or bad by a one line plot summary. The script and quality of animation is what will make or break the movie(at least critically).

I'm skeptical of this news and I like the other storyline better. It sounds much better than this but I'll have to wait and see how things progress. This could really kill any talks between Disney and Pixar.

I agree with both Luke and Mr. Toad, but I do not think that Pixar will do a Toy Story 3 just because Disney wants it... If I'm not mistaken Disney did all the pre-production for the original Toy Story, so the only thing they should be able to stumble on (at least I think) is the feel of the movie (the animation). Pixar has got Cars going and is probably already working on Rats, so a Pixar Toy Story is probably out of the question. We can hope though! I too hope that Disney and Pixar get back together

BOOOOO!

Three thumbs way way down on this one. Not only becasue I think Disney is out to ruin a good thing that can be profitable but becasue I am having The land before time flashes what movie are they on now like 11 or something

Seems like thats where Disney is heading with this whole Toy Story 3 crap.

The only good thing will be if they re-release Toy Story 1&2 when Toy story 3 comes out because I was stupid and didn't buy it on DVD when it was available, I don't know if this has been discussed but why did Disney put Toy story 1&2 in the vault? Also why didn't any of the others ones go in too? Is it because they found out it was a stupid Idea?
