Goodness, they do really fiddle about with this show don't they? That is a vast change from the original film (and even the sequel, though I don't know if that counts).
Do you think it really is that difficult to follow the original story of the film on stage ?

I thought the whole Ursula killed Triton's wife thing was ridiculous.

They do actually go with that thing in the 'Jr.' version...
"I'll eliminate you just as easily as I dispatched your mother."
"So Father
was right!"
And I do know in one production they made Triton a woman and that it was Ariel's father who was killed by Ursula.

Maybe they changed things in the stage version BECAUSE it would just be the same as the movie, which would be boring? Seriously, why would they make it exactly like the movie version, which loads of people could watch at home on DVD for free?

BDWAYWORLD.COM: That's a fun team!
ALAN: Yeah, we've had a great time working together.
And I recently got back from Tokyo where LITTLE MERMAID opened. Is LITTLE MERMAID still playing at Paper Mill? I think it's still at Paper Mill, and that's the production that's going to be going out for stock and amateur, finally. But we opened the production of MERMAID in Tokyo, which was just incredible. And that's doing really well. There's also a production in Moscow, which was great, and SISTER ACT's opening in all kinds of places around the world. And I'm going to Paris, where a new production of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST IS OPENING at the Mogador Theatre. So, it's a lot of stuff. A lot of juggling going around.

Well.... it was bound to happen, wasn't it.

The above critic called it on Novemver 24, 2010.

I'm not surprised about a Tangled musical coming in the future, but it's music isn't as noteworthy as Menken's other films. Then again, I've felt for a while that he was not given much freedom by the directors on Tangled, so maybe the musical will be better than the film, as far as songs, I mean (for once; the B&tB and TLM musicals were worse).

Disney's Divinity, while the TLM musical was not much to look at, how DARE you say such a thing about Beauty and the Beast?!

Eh, I'll dare too. I wasn't a big fan of the Broadway production. I thought both B&TB and TLM dumbed things down from their animated counterparts when transferred to the stage.

^ This. I loved the B& B on stage version. The Mob song was done excellently and the Me song was added in well too.

Personally, I thought all the original songs were awful (especially "Maison des Lunes" and "If I Can't Love Her") and the renditions of the songs already from the movie weren't as spectacular (like "Gaston," "Be Our Guest" and "Belle," which all pale in comparison for me; I prefer Angela Lansbury on "B&tB," but the musical's version isn't so bad.).

Well, the mermaid costumes (sans the tails connecting to their seashell bras) and some of the sets are better. The mermaid costumes are definitely an improvement. They actually look like mermaids!

Is the new
The Little Mermaid show that they are doing now in Tuacahn Amphitheater the same as the official Disney on Broadway show that they did back in 2007 in New York?

It's the official Disney show. It was slightly revamped and is now available for licensing.

To be honest though...you probably wouldn't be missing much. When I saw it, the show was just ok. Kind of a let down. The changed version didn't seem great either. Another changed, better version could come, but it's very doubtful.
