Also, yesterday I saw frozen for the third time and was looking for Hans during the ice castle scene. I've read that some people think he glanced up towards the chandelier and some think he didn't. Well he definitely does. There would be no other reason for him to glance up at the chandelier, and away from the guy he is trying to stop from shooting. It would waste time. I was trying to figure out why hans stopped Elsa from being killed but i think this partly explains it for a few possible reasons. The first is that Hans is still doing his "Nice Guy" routine and i don't think having one of the men in a group you are leading kill the queen in cold blood (haha) meshes too well with that routine. He wants people to actually think he is this saint. So, having the queen die during a tragic accident is a much smarter plan for him, as he is trying to win the trust of the people of Arendelle. The other men in the castle would've told stories of how he tried to talk with her, rather than fight. His actions here would make him a saint in the people's eyes. He even looks the part, with his baby-soft looking skin. He could become a legend. Another reason I think he didn't let them kill Elsa is I really don't think Anna would've married him as quickly (or at all) if a team he led killed her sister. It would probably be especially damaging to Anna because of everything left unsaid between them. Sure hans would pull a nice guy manipulate her and make up some story about how it had to end this way (or that Elsa said she never loved Anna anyway or something), but again its risky if that would work and its not worth loosing everything hans has already set up. I honestly don't think he planned for Elsa to survive the chandelier falling, but I don't know.
From him asking her to bring back summer while she's imprisoned, i think its reasonable to conclude that he isn't sure if killing her will thaw the fjord. He might be trying to get her to that it right before he executes her, sso he still gets the glory but without any of the work or uncertainty.

After finally seeing "Frozen", I will give my thoughts.

Well, I liked it, though I won't rank it as one of the best Disney films. Heck, it's been compared to "Tangled" and to be honest, I found them both equal. And both of them are inferior to "The Princess and the Frog", "Brave" and "Wreck-It-Ralph". Yeah, although "Brave" had some serious story problems, I thought the good parts made up for its flaws (the score, the visuals, the spunk and heart that the first half had).

"Frozen" was definitively a darker and more serious, but just like "Tangled", it had some drastic tone problems (going from very jovial to very dark). Elsa was really a tragic character that you could really feel for and identify with. Anna was the typical spunky Disney-Princess. And I actually liked Olaf (despite that his "In Summer" sequence was absolutely out of place and horrible). The Duke was somewhat fun at times.
The visuals were amazing. But just like "Brave", it had a better first act than a second act. Kristoff's character should have been more expanded and I didn't care for the trolls. Some of the humor, while not too awfully juvenile, were still a reminder of watching a classical kids movie. "Frozen" did had some heartbreaking moments. I liked the fact that Anna punched Hans at least. Heck, he should have been killed and not just sent to jail. And the fun nod how Anna talks to a duck family during "For The First Time In Forever" sequence, a subtle nod to the author..

As for the music; I've already addressed the songs that I liked. "For The First Time In Forever" was amazing and I liked the opening chants, but they should have kept the drums in, to make it more powerful. I liked "Frozen Heart" and "Let It Go", but both "Fixer Upper" and "Love Is An Open Door" sounds like they could have come from "High School Musical". Though I enjoyed both sequences, especially the former (the nods to Pinocchio in the clock sequence), I thought they could have been musically better. The score, in the other hand, was mediocre.

All in all, a good movie, but not one that ranks up with Disney's best. Had the tone been more consistent, it could have been better. And just to be said; My expectations for it weren't high.

I'm listening to the songs in English on YT right now, and "For The First Time In Forever" keeps reminding me of a song I had heard before in another musical. I want to say it's "I Can Hear the Bells" form Hairspray or something similar. Anyone else have a strange sense of aural déjà-vu?

Also, "Spring Pageant" deleted song gives some background to the trolls and could be used to explain Elsa's powers -- there's a part / deleted plot point about a prophecy of eternal winter.

That was a good song, especially the first half.

I liked the part where she builds her ice castle, reminds me of Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen when he went to Mars.

Disney Infinity: Anna with a car looks way too hardcore.

Got the soundtrack in the mail today--the casing is very nice--and, having listened to it repeatedly the past few hours ( ), I'd rank the songs this way:

1. “Let It Go”
2. “For the First Time in Forever (Reprise)”
3. “Do You Want to Build a Snow Man?”
4. “For the First Time in Forever”
5. “Reindeers Are Better Than People”
6. “Love Is an Open Door”
7. “In Summer”
8. “Fixer Upper”
9. “Frozen Heart”
10. “Let It Go (Demi Lovato Version)”

"Let It Go" at the top, naturally--I'd say it's joined my favorite Disney songs period. I'm aware that the Elsa parts of the soundtrack tend to be my favorites; her moments elevate "For the First Time in Forever" and its reprise. I do like Anna's parts, too, and Kristen Bell is a great singer; I don't really prefer one over the other between Bell and Menzel because they both succeed with what their parts are. I really don't consider "RABTP" on the same level as the others since it's more of a joke, but it does make me realize how much I wish we'd got a real song with Jonathan Groff in place of "Fixer Upper"... "LIaOD" and "In Summer" have great visuals, but don't really succeed outside the movie. I have to say I don't really like the Lopez touches in "LIaOD," mainly the "doo-OO-oo-oor" breaks in the chorus and the "with you--with you!--with you!"'s. Don't care for the last 3 at all.

I am glad the tradition of a End Titles pop version of the film's main song has returned (I wonder why they didn't so something for "I See the Light" at the end of Tangled?), but still wish they'd found a better candidate. Thinking of young stars, I would've loved to hear Ariana Grande do the pop rendition.

I don't know much of anything about the Disney films to follow this one, but I'm guessing Lasseter plans to stick with Lopez?

It does remind me of Hairspray actually. Listening to "FtFTiF" outside the movie, it makes me think of the sky--the shot of Hercules in the orange clouds at the end of "Go the Distance" comes to mind.

Someone on youtube mentioned that DYWTBAS sounds like Not While I'm Around from Sweeny Todd. Wow I wish i didn't read that because I'm going to hear that when I see the sequence now. Actually, Not While I'm Around is a good song for Elsa to sing to Anna as a response to DYWTBAS and later, aboutHans at the end .

What I love about FtFTiF as an "I Want" song, is that not only do we get Anna's side of things but we hear from Elsa as well, revealing her fears on the coronation. Wait a sec, is this the first time an "I Want" song had two characters showing us the feelings of both girls?

Divinity, as for Disney soundtracks (from other films) where would you rank them?

I'm about 90% sure that Frozen will be released on dvd/blu ray in March. Just a heads up for anyone wondering.

Also, I don't remember if it's been posted here or not, but the Blu-ray.com page for the Blu-ray 3D release claims that it will come with 2 Cuts of the film, so we might possibly be getting an Extended Cut.

And I'm 90% sure that Frozen won't include many bonus features. Unfortunately. Disney has been lazy with bonus features and films as "Wreck-It-Ralph" and "Tangled" didn't even have a audio commentary.

To clarify, I frequently partner with Disney vendors which is why I posted that.

You're probably right, which is a real shame. I haven't bought either yet because of that.

Why would Tiana be there? She's from a 20th century American time period?

I hope the Deluxe Soundtrack means there might be a decent blu-ray too. They seem to really care about this film...I hope.


Strong reviews + strong box office have helped Frozen's odds



WDAS deserves an Oscar and I don't see any better time to make it happen than this year.

I still won't win, betting you now that it's going to go to The Wind Rises or Monsters University

At this point, I'd be more surprised by Monsters University despite Pixar's dominance.

Its prequel status aside, it really doesn't seem to have many passionate supporters. Brave did have passionate support thanks to the animation quality and female-centric story. I wasn't shocked at all when it won even though many found it undeserving. Maybe the support for it will emerge once the nominees are set, but it's much more comedic/light-hearted and "cartoony" than Brave was.

Frozen has its detractors, but a lot of the support is very enthusiastic. I think critics take it more seriously than something like Wreck-It-Ralph because of the human drama elements.

I also think Frozen is definitely going to sweep the Annies. Miyazaki's lack of a directing nomination seems to suggest ASIFA wasn't that enthusiastic for The Wind Rises (ditto Monsters University).

As for the Oscar, I think Frozen's win will depend on how many Academy members actually watch The Wind Rises. Then again, if Spirited Away won, there are certainly enough voters who are fans of Miyazaki. I do feel confident about "Let It Go" winning for Original Song. This year is phenomenally weak in that category and its chances are further helped by the fact Randy Newman didn't write an end credits song for Monsters University.
