So I just came back from watching it a second time today (not my fault lol, I watched it this morning, and then my sister wanted me to take her). This is one if Disney's best IMO! Personally, storywise, it was amazing. I just couldn't stop smiling (except obviously during sadder moments).
For some reason, Tangled was only being played in 3D in my city. I mean every single theater and showing was in 3d, so there was no choice, but I didn't mind. But what got to me was that both shows I went to, the theaters were full! When I saw PatF last year, I was surprised to actually see people coming to watch it during its first showing. But here I am watching it twice on its first day (on a Wednesday too! It's not a holiday here) and the rooms were packed! Anyways the audience loved this movie! They were so responsive to everything! There was this one little girl in front of me who, every time a lantern showed up, would reach as far as she could to try to touch it...It was really cute lol.
I won't write much about the film just yet but I have to say there was one part that actually made me tear up. I have no idea why, because not even the death scene did this, but before the king and queen release their lantern into the sky and you see the king tear up...I don't know it just got to me!. Anyways I loved all the songs , and I can't stop singing them (surprisingly since I heard them before and didn't like them as much...I guess you really have to hear them during the movie to really appreciate them). The only complaint that my friends and I had was I wish the songs were a little more prominent in the movie. I also kind of wish they had a choral ending...

I do agree with that
I wasn't sure if I was the only one who felt that way. I mean, it was good in a way, because I hate when scenes drag on and on. But I also wanted them to slow down a bit, especially during the pub and kingdom scene from what I recall. I felt like some things that I wanted to see more of happened too fast. But I understand that there's only so much they could fit in.
Oh, and I went to Borders after and was wishing that they had already released the DVD XD I looked for the art book, and unfortunately they didn't have it

I was really looking forward to getting it. I guess I'll just have to wait.

This movie was excellent! Just got back from seeing it and I don't remember the last movie that made my mom laugh or sister cry! It really tugged at the heartstrings but still gave you something to laugh about! In short, I haven't enjoyed a Disney movie this much since Lilo and Stitch.

janesjubilee wrote:Also, I'm still very confused about the reprise for When Will my Life Begin. I swear it played when Gothel left the tower for the first time. And afterward, there was a shot of Rapunzel's hair flowing in the wind.
Weird...Now I think I'm crazy! The first time I watched it I distinctively remember seeing the scene where Rapunzel's hair is flowing in the wind after Gothel leaves because I loved it so much, but the second time it wasn't there....Maybe I did a slow motion blink or something and blinked for 5 seconds lol, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't there the second time...
I also wanted to add something. The character animation and their movement, expressions, etc...I've just never seen such amazing animation in humans yet! I mean I believed every single thing they did!

does anyone know if they art book contains any info on glen's original story treatment? or if anyone on here knows any details on it?
I would love to know how much has differed from his "darker" version of Rapunzel to "Tangled"
as it definitely has some darker, mature, qualities to it

That scene was definitely there, but without the singing.

I didn't see anything about the original story treatment.
There was the other one where two teenagers got turned into Rapunzel and her prince by a which and I believe the real Rapunzel turned into a squirrel and the real prince turned into a dog.

yeah I remember about that awful one... lol
but there is so much artwork of Gothel looking like this, and it seemed to be pretty locked in this design for a while

so I would love to hear about what changed, what is different now etc.

Ahhh, just got home from seeing it....it's even better the second time around!
Yeah, the scene with the hair hanging all sadly is there....but definitely no first reprise of When Will my Life Begin. Didn't miss it, honestly.
And I was wrong about the credits! They DO kind of tell a little story---just the movie's plot, basically. I really wish the art from them was in the artbook!

Another update from the previous link:
http://www.deadline.com/2010/11/first-b ... -expected/
2ND UPDATE: Disney sources now tell me that Tangled opened with $10M-$11M today and the studio is still looking for a high $60sM Thanksgiving 5-day holiday weekend.
So is Disney gonna pull another 180 and start saying fairytales and musicals are back in production

I'm still mauling over whether or not to see this movie in theaters (as opposed to just renting it from the library). Critics made it sound like Bolt was something worth seeing, and this board made it sound like The Princess and the Frog was the second coming, so I've been tricked before. Hmm......

it's better then Bolt and tPatF, both of which are fine movies in their own right, it's not AMAZING~ but none of Disney's movies are IMO, as much as I love them

got back from my second viewing...something else I noticed.
There is an entire section of Mother Knows Best missing from the movie version. I have bolded below what they cut from the soundtrack version...
Skip the drama
Stay with mama
Mother knows best
Go ahead, get trampled by a rhino
Go ahead, get mugged and left for dead
Me, I'm just your mother, what do I know?
I only bathed and changed and nursed you
Go ahead and leave me, I deserve it
Let me die alone here, be my guest
When it's too late
You'll see, just wait
Mother knows best
Mother knows best
Take it from your mumsy
On your own, you won't survive
Sloppy, underdressed
Immature, clumsy
Please, they'll eat you up alive....

Judging from this video, the film's getting a good reception from the audience.

Hmm, I thought it was there. I really liked that part, but I guess I didn't miss it much because I didn't even notice it was cut off.
Also a minor thing regarding the ending that everyone probably noticed but
why didn't the blade have any blood on it? The movie got a PG rating after all. I don't think a bit more blood would be pushing it to PG13
Not a big deal, but I just don't really understand.
Cool pic!

Dear skyler888,
Cool pic! I sort of think that Mother Gothel looks cool in this pic, and in the movie!
Thank you in advance for your reply.

I noticed it as well XD I'm really not sure either, but yeah they probably didn't want it to be too graphic for little kids, which is totally fine.

lol really sorry about what I am about too post, but I would like to hear people's opinions on how I wish the ending might have gone, I'll put this in white cause it's basically the ending just with my tweaking
does anyone else wish that they gave Gothel and Rapunzel a bit of closure, I mean I really feel like Gothel learned to love Rapunzel, and there is no way that R could have just totally switched her feelings of her mother after 18 years of a loving relationship.
I really wish that when Gothel was about to fall through the window, Rapunzel would have ran and grabbed her arm or something
They could have had a little moment where Gothel realized that she actually did end up loving R as a daughter and she was just confused and did what she thought she had to to keep her from running away to her true parents and leaving her and hating her forever, and now understanding that she had to let her "daugther" grow up and follow her own dream
R would try to understand and want to save her, but then Gothel would realize that her time was done and that R had to be who she was, so then she would say "I love you Rapunzel", with Rapunzel replying "I love you More!" and Gothel would say "I love you most..." as she let's go of R's grip and falls to her death
Then the rest of the ending, saving Flynn etc. would follow suit
IDK, the relationship was very complex, but they didn't really seem to push it where it could have gone, or what the characters really would have been feeling with all of that
