My mother and a 40-something year-old co-worker who is also a mom have told me they want to see this movie. They brought it up in conversation in independent circumstances. I know my mom saw the trailer before Mufasa, and I know my coworker also saw Mufasa. It’s anecdotal so ultimately meaningless. But even though Rachel Zegler has generated a lot of online discussion, I think ultimately Pasek and Paul will have the most sway in making this movie a success.

Why do you guys care so much about Snow White being a warrior/active?

Literally every Snow White live action we've had has SW either being a warrior or being active in her own saving

There's even a Snow White movie where she's a bullfighter cmon

Those are not Disney. non-Disney can afford to make whatever SW they want but Disney's SW is a feminine classical heroine. Look at the power of femininity with Barbie and Wicked. This is what appeals to women and becomes box office juggernauts, not Captain Marvel superheroes who leads the biggest box office flop of all time. And that film flopped because women did not show up for it. Disney needs to stop telling women what we need to like to become empowered because we are happy the way we are and need no changing. SW needs no changing.

You know, the whole dumb part with Snow saying her father wanted her to be Loyal, brave, fair, true--whatever it all was, it was a mouthful--they should've kept it to just "fair" or "fair and true" at most. That way it would actually tie in with both the Queen's song ("All Is Fair," which, being paired with the scene she's ordering the guards to find SW, sounds like it's probably a case of her lying to her subjects about how everything is still "fair" like it was when the King was alive) and with the whole Fairest of Them All moniker and how Snow White's beauty is more internal ("fairness" / kindness) v. the Queen's only being external.

Anyway, everyone's already talked about why the warrior thing with the animated character SW that this film is a remake of is stupid many times over. You could always go back and re-read it. No, I don't think this film will be big, maybe within Cinderella's range, but I expect a bit less than that, tbh. Anyway, I always think it's odd when I read supposed "positive" comments that come across angry in tone. Usually I'm happy when I'm positive about something. I actually think I feel more *genuinely* excited to see this movie (shockingly) than a lot of the scripted commentary I've seen here. Or really just certain parts of it. I still expect it to fall short of its budget which they were dumb to let get so big considering all the controversy.

According to the description (loyal, brave, fair, true etc.), Snow White should have just become a Boy Scout.....
Utterly ridiculous!

Isn't loyal, brave, and true literally copied from Mulan? Has Disney started plagiarizing itself now lol.

I'm pretty sure in America they got rid of boy scouts to make them genderless so SW could actually become one.

Barbie and Wicked are successful because they're visually hyper feminine pink movies, the VISUAL aspect is what makes money

Barbie and Elphaba could be fighters and the movies still make the same money

I agree that women don't want Captain Marvel type of movies since they don't appeal to them, but fights are not a problem, Moana is a fighter and she's loved by the female general audience

Yes but I think those pink visuals work because they're not fighters. Barbie is not some secret spy agent like Black Widow but in pink. Elphaba is not a sword-touting hero. If they put Black Widow in pink, I don't think that would make her suddenly way more popular in the female crowd especially because she'd lose male fans. Women like traditionally feminine characters especially because Hollywood has stopped portraying them positively (look at all of JK Rowling's female characters in Harry Potter and how the girly ones who wear pink are villainized) so we don't get many cases of them anymore when the media is full of Black Widow types.

Barbie and Elphaba have appeal because of their visuals but also because of what they stand for as characters. Changing them to action heroines would change the characters.

I haven't seen Moana 2 but I don't remember her being a fighter or warrior in the first movie. She was an active character and very physical but even her climax has her winning the day with peace rather than beating someone up.

The thing is, I could buy SW being a sort of peaceful figure a persecuted crowd of citizens would congregate around (and with her having a solid claim to the throne and all making her a viable way to get rid of the Evil Queen), it's really her running around on horseback and physically fighting itself that comes across very ridiculous for the type of character SW is. Power doesn't always have to be presented in such physical terms. It works for some characters like Raya or Luisa, but seeing it in a more magical or non-fighting sense like Elsa and Belle has its own appeal. They're still powerful even of they never carry a weapon. That's more how they should've went with the Disney character SW, focus more on her being someone whose peaceful nature draws people to her to want to fight for her and someone who cares about others enough to take on the mantle of "leader" they push on her for their sake even if it wouldn't be a natural fit with her personality.

I really like these ideas. I agree.

So it has to make around 600 million to be a success. I just would be very surprised if it even managed 500 million like Cinderella 2015... I'm thinking around 400 is more likely.

This movie should have had the same budget as Cinderella. So many wrong decisions made it really expensive. I think that it's going to be hard for it to achieve 400 millions.
Btw merchandise should be out soon. Disney store uses to release the official merchandise of their movies about 70 days before the release date but other brands use to release it sooner.

Someone on Facebook made this beautiful fan art of Gal Gadot as the Queen.
Image

She's so beautiful, she'll be the star of the movie. It's interesting, because the artist chose the same frame as the Beauty and the Beast character posters.

Love the new still of the Queen towering over SW (that might be the same thing Sotiris posted, I saw the still elsewhere earlier).
