"Thank you for contacting Walt Disney Studios.
In preparation for its Blu-ray release, THE LITTLE MERMAID went through an intensive re-mastering process. Unfortunately, a minor oversight led to a switch of two small cuts during the "Part of Your World" scene. There is no impact on the quality or overall experience of the film.
We hope this provides you with the information you require. However, if you require any further information then please do not hesitate to contact us.

... Pre-order cancelled. (at least, waiting till it becomes cheaper during black friday since it's a Diamond Edition Title) No immediate fix on a classic, no sale. ... oh wait, I remember being an error on the Pinocchio Platinum Edition Blu-ray having only one line out... but that line actually didn't affect the experience... that, and I totally forgot about that. It would take them more than a year to make a replacement disc, though. (didn't think they'd be worse than Paramount Quality Control)

But if that error isn't on the DVD, don't they have to correct it on the Blu-Ray?

Wait, so I could just buy the DVD because that has a new transfer sans the mistakes?
But Disney's answer to the pointing out of mistakes is disturbing. They need to fix them. They do indeed impact the quality and experience!

Thanks for that video on the screwups,
Dragonlion. And major thanks to
DylanCharles90 for those screencaps!
So far, I'm thinking I might buy the DVD, but that's all. I do like the colors much better vs. the 2006 release, but that's the only reason I can think of for getting it now that all the errors are out in the daylight.

You mean to tell us that they're gonna act like: (1) the mistake doesn't exist, AND (2) that it isn't their fault when it clearly is?!
Edit: Okay, I called the Disney Home Entertainment helpline about the issue with the third and second to last shots of the POYW scene. Apparently, they knew of it as I inquired them about it last time I called. They said they're already looking into it and will try to catch it before the film hits US store shelves. I pray they'll manage to do so.

Sadly, members on blu-ray.com have confirmed the mistakes are on all the discs, including the DVD and 3D Blu-ray.
That is probably the main reason for Disney's reluctance to fix the problem. They would have to do a replacement for every single disc in the combo packs.

Exactly! While that minor edit in the sequence is visible, it does not stop me from enjoying the whole movie. So, from my point of view, it does not have a negative impact on the movie's quality. I'm still planning on buying it.

And Disney Quality Control just got ----ed up in the ---. How much are we paying for their content again?!

Yes, a top dollar price to me means that the product should not have errors and, if there are, there needs to be a replacement.

That's great for you, that you agree with them. (I'm not being sarcastic btw, I'm envious if anything that you can overlook it so easily)
The problem with that response is that not everyone else does. Disney's statement that we all should feel the way they say we should feel about their admitted error, is not only poor customer service, it's insulting to the unsatisfied customer. They would have been better off to never acknowledge anything was off or to have lied and said it was completely intentional than to admit error and then say they are deciding for us that this isn't a big deal. I've canceled my preorder now as well, not due to the mistake, but due to that reply they gave. Not spending a dime on this release unless they change their tune.

I understand and respect your opinion.

I don't want you guys to think that I'm totally fine with this. I still think the edits shouldn't have been there in the first place. But I have been waiting for this one to come to Blu-ray for such a long time. If it wouldn't have had a new restoration, I probably would never have bought it either. But since, the movie looks so beautiful, I'm willing to overlook this mistake.

I 100% agree with the statements Sicoe6256 has said.
EDIT
Except for the part of canceling the pre-order.

That's just silly. I'm all for canceling because of the mistake, but this is one representative we're talking about. even if thats the canned response they all give I would rather they be honest and acknowledge a mistake than pretend it was meant to be like that all along.
Not that this will change my mind of course, Im not buying but it has everything to do with the product and nothing to do with some customer service rep who had nothing to do with it.

Beg pardon. Earlier today, I called the Disney Home Entertainment hotline and told them about the issue with the POYW scene. According to the person I talked to, they knew it was me inquiring about the issue some time back (a month, to be exact). After i told her that the error concerned me that it'd be on the US release, she said that they were looking into it and that they'll do what they can to fix the problem before it's too late.

So they acknowledge this mistake but they wont acknowledge the missing clouds in The Lion King? I wish they'd stop converting these movies to 3D, as they always seem to make some kind of mistake, in addition to my general annoyance with them removing the original blue castle logo.

^This. And I'm letting Disney know they're not getting my money for this release unless they fix the swapped scenes.

Yes, but given their track record on previous releases (especially Cinderella, Pocahontas, and The Lion King), I'm not exactly holding my breath.

The problem for me here is also the "wish I could be" is visibly animated on Ariel's mouth. She's now.... silent... and she dropped to the floor real quickly. It's bizarre to imagine how this was overlooked. The editing now makes... zero sense.
It's glaring and borderline idiotic. One of the most amateurish mistakes in film restoration history.
