Here's something to tide us over, until we have our grubby hands on The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition. IGN.com has posted a 3-page interview with Ron Clements and Jon Musker, about the process of putting the film together, and the new Platinum Edition DVD. Enjoy!

It's always been there, it's just easier to see on DVD thanks to freeze-framing and zooming. Trying to find it on VHS would be murder, believe me, I tried! :P

Well for most of you it's already October 3rd...but here in Bakersfield it's 11:24 PM on October 2nd. Less than an hour away until the official release here in my city!

Unfortunately, I have to wait until 3:17 to go get my copy because of school. I hope Best Buy doesn't run out of plushes by then. If my mom has arrends to run, I think I'll just give her my money and ask her if she'll stop by so that I can get my plush. :D

I agree, where were the interviews with all the voice actors? I had high hopes that Disney would do another onstage show like they did with Aladdin. I liked the ride that almost was, and the character art was cool, but the interface was clunky...
Well, Jodi Benson did pop up several times to discuss the movie, and there were clips of some of the other cast. Have you ever thought that people might have been either unavailable or unwilling to contribute in some cases.

I thought the documentary was quite informative. It goes into the problems the studio was facing at the time, the general mood and attitude of the studio when the film was in production (was surprised to see Jeffrey Katzenberg interviewed). It went into some detail about the story development. And there was a big focus on the music and Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, which is rightly so, as that style influenced the subsequent Disney movies enormously.

A documentary is never going to please everyone, and is always going to leave something out. It's a tricky balance between making something too long and losing the interest of the viewer or striking the right balance, and risking losing something important.

Personally, I found it to be a very enjoyable documentary, and I thought it complemented the movie perfectly. As indeed did the entire extra's package. I thought this was a disc where we got a substantial extra's package that you would want to watch again, whereas all too often these days we're given pieces of fluff, which in a lot of cases you'll never even watch once.

They could make a TLM Documentary that lasts 5 hours. Not only would I sit through every second of it, but Id come back for multiple viewings. :)

yeah, seriously, there's no such thing as a documentary that is too long when it comes to this. worst case scenario, they split it up in a few parts. they don't need to worry about the viewer loosing interest, seeing as its a dvd extra. its not part of the movie, and its not on tv. so they should be free to cram as much stuff that will fit on the disk as possible.

I doubt that five hours of material can be put onto a single DVD, without losing image or sound quality. I wouldn't mind though. At least at that way every aspect of the production could be followed without rushing it.

Yours in november? That's strange. Okay, in Holland we still get it two weeks later than America (on October 18th) but why do you get it a month later?

By the way, do any of you know anything about the R3 release? I have a friend that lives in Hongkong and she'd like to know the release date there.

The UK PE of TLM is R2 and R4, so in Australia it's the same DVD but there it will be released tomorrow. You can buy it from http://www.cd-wow.net without shipping costs!

Thanks, that's a very nice gesture but I don't like buying my DVDs off of the net. I'm really fussy when it comes down to picking my DVDs, I'd rather go to the Disney Store and check out which has the best case, I'd be really annoyed if I got sent one with a minor dent or a slight crack. Plus I wanted to get the boxset of both "TLM" and "TLM2". Thanks again though.

I double checked the date and it's out in the UK on November 6th.

Yeahh... I understand that. If I could I would buy it in a shop, too. But in Germany we have just the single-Disc edition, so I ordered the UK-Edition from cd-wow.net. Btw, in Germany is not one Disney Store and last week I was (just one day) in Venice and was really surprised and happy to see one and then... then I forgot to go inside and remembered too late when I was again on the Garda lake :(
