I wasn't impressed by his design either. Looks too Dreamworkish too me.
So the voice of Moana is just a fourteen-year old? Wasn't Moana supposed to be sixteen?

well Maui is obviously being aimed for the boys in the audience: big tough lovable looking guy with cewl moving tattoos and a giant hook weapon. No attempt here to make him cute or pretty for the girls. I think thats a good thing. So far from this one promo piece, the art style looks nothing special, typical modern day CGI film. Moana is cute. Let see how they move.

Sighs. Unfortunately.

I noticed that too. His design looks much worse as a CG model. All of his features are collected together in the center of his face which makes him look off.

Yeah, so? The age of the actor has little to do with the age of the character they're voicing. Interestingly though, Moana used to be fourteen when the movie was first announced.

Agreed.

It wasn't meant as a criticism, it was meant as an statement. Sorry. I just find it to be a little odd (for obvious reasons). But it's not unusual either that actors have played characters that were older than them selves. Aladdin were supposed to be seventeen or eighteen, but Scott Weigner was younger. And let's not forget Hilary Swank, who played a character that was older than her in "Million Dollar Baby". Of course there are several (and more radical) expamples, but those came to my mind now.

CONGRATS DISNEY PRINCESS, AULI'I CRAVALHO! She's great and her singing (if that's her) is gorgeous! YES FOR A NEWCOMER, and not a pop star!
But, Maui. Yeah, something looks off. He looks better in 2D. He's not that bad looking, just a little awkward in his cheeks. But, the tattoos are amazing. THAT is in 2D.

Good for her.
Hopefully her good sportsmanship rubs off on her less than cooth fans more. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would purposefully bully a 14 YEAR OLD GIRL for any reason, let alone something as petty as casting disagreements. Thankfully the congratulations are far outweighing the sour grapes.

That Maui design is going to give me nightmares. They could have done a much better job with that.

In some foreign territories (so far in
Spain,
Portugal,
Belgium) the film will be called Vaiana due to existing registered trademark of the name Moana there. In
Brazil, it's going to be called Moana: Um Mar de Aventuras.
