I feel like I'm the only Disney fan out there that didn't and doesn't mind the gargoyles. The movie is quite dark and if you're quite sensitive then the gargoyles are like a soft pillow from all the other nightmare fuel going on like Quasi being humiliated by tied to the wheel.

Well, I blame Disney for not releasing any concept images yet. They had no problem releasing images for Tangled in August 2009, but they want to be super secretive with Frozen. So until they do decide to release some images of any kind, this is all we got, speculate & criticize.

Of course, we could speculate without criticizing.

I still don't see how the releasing of images has anything to do with our complaining about comic relief when we don't know anything about it.

Well, seeing some images of Frozen would help in knowing something about it. We have no idea what this snow man or any of the other charaters look like. By seeing some images, atleast we would have visual look of who these charaters are.

I'm not really worried/bothered about the Snowmen or Olaf at all.
I think the movie sounds great, regardless of any skepticism!

Why would Disney start releasing concept art for a film that's coming out next year when Wreck-It Ralph is being released in November? Disney want all the attention on the film that is being released imminently, once Wreck-It Ralph has been released and all the attention surrounding it has died down, then Disney will start promoting Frozen. Something might leak out in the meantime but I really can't see WDAS wanting anything overshadowing Wreck-It Ralph right now.

Agreed. I don't have a problem with the gargoyles or other Disney sidekicks that others seem to have but regardless, I really don't see how you can criticise something we know next to nothing about.

These days, it’s very rare to have comic relief not be horrendous and annoying--Tangled’s side kicks were one of the surprisingly good ones--so I see no problem with people expecting Olaf to be irritating and unnecessary since it’s very likely he will be. Besides, having a snow man as a character at all was going to get that reaction.

Looking at the complete story overhaul, I'm wondering why Disney is bothering to base this movie on anything? Why didn't they just call this an original movie? With the little resemblance, the last thing they would be accused of is copying The Snow Queen.

Sure, many of them have been, you're right. It's simply the fact that it's SO pessimistic to write something off at this point. You don't see a problem with pessimism? And like you said, the last side characters we got from Disney were thoroughly enjoyable. There is nothing to tell us otherwise here except for ONE account. For all we know, the guy also hated Maximus.

Also, for all those wanting some images... where is this sense of entitlement coming from? Disney doesn't owe us anything. If they decide not to show us anything until Wreck-It Ralph's release, it's for good reason and complaining about it is being selfish.

I think its the internet's fault I mean back in the day Disney fans just waited patinetly for the next feature with new info coming out when specials happened on the Disney Channel.Now with the internet we just can't wait for the next bit of info.I can tell you that when news of the Princess and Frog were coming out way back in 2007 I was anxious for any bit of info.I mean I replayed that teasor they did in 2008 over and over again because I could wait myself.

I love the internet but the same time it has spoiled my generation for a lot of reasons.

Except I don’t consider it pessimistic to expect the least from a company who’s last 8 out of 9 animated films had unbearable sidekicks, and considering the character in question is a snow man (which I guess only tops Grandmother Willow in absurd concepts for characters). Tangled’s directors are not involved with this film, so there’s no reason to expect this to be in the same category as Tangled.

If anything, it sets you up to be less annoyed when you finally see the film--or to be pleasantly surprised on the very off chance when you were wrong. And it's no different from writing off a Garfield/Chipmunks/Smurfs type of film without having seen anything, for example, when you know from prior experience that it's stupid, so let's stop being holier-than-thou about every complaint that's made.

I like Maximus. He's cute. Aggressive but cute.

I think Gargoyles from "Hunchback of Notre Dame" are better than Timon & Pumbaa from "Lion King" because their humor isn't based on fart jokes and other horrible comedy. I think Disney could make intelligent humor like people can find in Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid or Rapunzel.
I hope Frozen will be a good movie, without stupid humor because fart jokes and something like that will destroy the movie.

I think Olaf the snowman could be a great character like Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas or Magic Carpet from Aladdin or Lumière and Tockins from Beauty and the Beast. I hope that.

Well, I certainly don't think being optimistic is the same as being holier-than-thou. To not expect much is one thing - I'm certainly not. I'm sure it'll be your typical comic relief. But to write it off entirely just seems silly to me.

Keep in mind that, while the sidekicks don't typically draw in adults, they are often favorites of the younger crowd. And while they work better in some films than others, they are there for a reason. Olaf very well could be a crowd favorite. Just don't be so quick so judge, that's all I'm saying. Don't get your hopes up either... it is what it is until we know anything further.

Wait and see...

the difference is Timon and Pumbaa felt like natural additions and the fart jokes were few and done more tastefully than, say, actually hearing a fart(The sequels, maybe not so much).

The gargoyles werent really there for a reason.

People have a right to criticize and express their opinion based on the information released so far. When new information surfaces, people may change their opinion.

Although I like Grandmother Willow, I think it would have worked better and made more sense if they had made her a human character. Pocahontas takes place in such a realistic/historical-based universe, that a talking tree seems out of place.

Well why did Disney release concept art images of Tangled back in August of 2009, while The Princess & the Frog was coming out that December? Why did Disney release images & a vidoe-game mock up of Wreck-It Ralph in August of 2011, 14 months before it's release. They have all these new images for Frozen, but won't release none to the pubic? Why is that? They had no problem doing that for Tangled & Ralph though.

I didn't criticise anyone for having an opinion at all, what I said is that I don't understand some of the criticism the character is already getting. If people don't like the character then fine, it doesn't affect or bother me in the slightest but I haven't criticised anyone for having that opinion.

When they have something they want to release I'm sure they will do so. But Wreck-It Ralph will be their priority now because it's being released soon, the chances are that more Frozen information and early artwork will start coming through in the new year when WDAS will put all their effort into promoting it. But I really don't think that they will want anything overshadowing or drawing attention away from Wreck-It Ralph at the moment, everyone just has to be patient.

From what we have heard they have shown lots of images to Frozen to reporters & people at special events. Over the last 2 months Disney has released the story synopsis & even Kristin Bell has tweeted her excitment of voicing a Disney Princess! With all this, you would think an image or 2 of the characters would be released. And nothing is gonna take the attention away from Ralph. That film is locked, loaded & ready to go! Ever since they released the first trailer last june, it's been nothing but positive reaction, like people saying "it looks more like a Pixar film than a Disney film". As i said in a previos post: I'll be shocked if any image of frozen gets released before the year ends.

Based on the information released so far? We have next to no information regarding the comic relief. In fact, we don't even know for sure that it will be comic relief and that the snowman won't turn out to be the main villain or something.

And personally, I think I have every right to complain about people complaining. From all the sickening CG v Handdrawn debates to the usual complaints about butchering the source material (where people's favorite Disney movies may be equally unfaithful but are spared). Then we go on to criticize an aspect of the movie based on one bit of second-hand information. I am not just talking about this site either.

And sure, you can criticize. But saying that the snowman will be much much much worse (again, based on next to no information) than some of the most reviled characters is any Disney movie isn't really a reasoned, well-thought out criticism. It's just hyperbole.
