I think it would be poignant having your first Disney DVD be the first Disney feature. That's if you can find Snow White anywhere, though.

I picked my Snow White up last year at a Borders, and my Beauty and the Beast, last year, at Fye. Try and look there.

You should get:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Beauty and the Beast
The Lion King
The Lion King 1 1/2
Sleeping Beauty
Fantasia
Fantasia 2000
Peter Pan
Alice in Wonderland
Brother Bear

Later time will past and it will be harder to find these titles at the store, online or ebay.

I would recommend that you don't buy Disney DVD's online on ebay since they sell bootlegs of copies.
If you want to wait for the HD-DVD or the re-release DVD's of these titles go ahead.
But you should get them as soon as possible check your local malls they might have them. :)

First, do you plan on collecting all of the DVDs? If you're only planning on buying the ones you like, then go for the OOP ones first. You said you want it to be a platinum edition...so look at all of the platinum editions and figure out which one jumps out at you? If you can't decide, go with the OOP ones first and work your way to the present. When I started collecting, I chose to buy the ones which were easily available first (i.e. not out of print), and keep track of which ones were going out of print, then started in on the the OOP dvds, this way, from the time I started, I was sure to get all of the DVDs I could before they went out of print, saving myself some time and a few bucks later.

Take it has a sing to buy it Lol. Its a great DVD I bought mine through E-bay and regret not picking it up when I saw it in stores. I am not sure if you are planning just to stick with the animated movies but if you are not I recommend Pixars Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. Every now then you can see them for a really good price of 12.99. :D

Nothing much to add except for my own recommendation for Snow White or the Fantasia set as good buys.

However, in the end - pick the movies you WANT rather than "must buys" if it is your first DVD. I certainly have a few must buys, but there is heaps of crap in my collection to. But crap I love.

The important thing is to have a collection you can pick and choose from in the future, no matter what the mood.

Actually, I haven't had a hard time finding Snow White platinum at retailers. I (very foolishly) passed up on it while I was on a trip and found it for $16 @ Wal-Mart. The cheapest I've seen it since then is 29.99.

For a while Best Buy was doing it and Circuit City. But I would check Target they leave specials like that for a while. I recall one time they had a lot of the gold titles for 14.99 lasted for about 2 months.

SW was my first ever DVD much less Disney DVD. I bought it the Christmas it came out and I truly love it. I would recommend getting it or BatB as well. But as stated before, get what you can afford and what you can find. Some of the Platnum and Special Editions won't be released again for several years or until HD-DVD comes out.

:o WOW where do you live. You are so lucky to have seen a deal like that I wish I had that kind of luck. I am to scared to buy Snow White on e-bay becasue of all the fake copies that are being sold. But thats just me.

Should i buy Gargoyles season 1 DVD?

I've never seen the TV show gargoyles so i do know what it is like! Do you think it is worth getting as i am quite interested in seeing it. If i order it from DVDSoon i can get free shipping to the UK, and with the pound being extremely strong against the dollar at the moment it would only cost me about £10!!!

What do you think? Should i get it?

YES!! O____O

Seriously, ichabod, I'd strongly recommend a blind purchase. Gargoyles is a very well-made, well-written series - it still amazes me sometimes that it was produced by Disney! You'll especially like it if you like more mature storylines, mythology, action... all that good stuff. :D

And like you said, with situations being as they are right now with the pound to the dollar, it'll be cheap, too! So yes, buy it! I doubt you'll regret it. ^_^
