Sotiris did you even read the interview? The member said the exact same thing:
But it really isn't something I should be voting on because I really don't know anything about costume designing. You know, we nominate our own [meaning the nominees in each category are chosen solely by the members of the corresponding branch of people who work/worked in that area], but then it goes out to the freakin' collective membership who have not a clue what anyone else does except their own shit. It shouldn't work like this. And yet I have a ballot, so I vote, you know?
He admitted he wasn't qualified to vote for most of the categories, but does so because that is the system the academy has put in place, and he's not going to work against that because he feels differently. He's just as critical as you.
He simply made the correct point that one very popular film somehow did not make the cut, yet two films that most members of the academy and the American population have no knowledge of did. Most members of this forum, who are animation nuts, haven't even seen them either. Many members of this forum also agree The Lego Movie was snubbed. Even the Annie Awards have a track record of ignoring foreign animated films.

This is sad. As a committee member/voter, you should watch ALL of the movies and vote for the art, not what your kid likes the best or the big name or w/e. This is how Wreck-It Ralph lost to Brave: "Ewwwww, video games....oooooooh, Pixar!" And most likely how The Wind Rises lost to Frozen: Frozen is the billion-dollar phenomen and the usual Disney movie. So unfair that the most popular/familiar wins over the one who deserved it the most.
We know now that The Lego Movie would have been the victor. So disappointing it didn't get nominated. And ugh: I don't want Big Hero 6 to win. It was good, nothing spectacular. HTTYD 2 was the best animated movie in a while. It had everything: Drama, adventure, and humor.

When a movie is that successful and culturally hits all the right chords and does that kind of box-office — for that movie not to be in over these two obscure freakin' Chinese fuckin' things that nobody ever freakin' saw

Why is everyone so against Big Hero 6 possibly winning? Just because it's a Disney movie? Wow, pathetic.
It probably will win, but I won't complain if How To Train Your Dragon 2 takes home the gold.
When it comes to killing off characters, Disney is no stranger to it. However, BH6 is one of the few movies of theirs to actually kill off a character and have that feeling of grief and personal loss stick with the main character throughout the movie. The only other movie that comes to mind is Lion King, whatnot with Simba feeling like Mufasa's death was all his fault. He might've seemed fine by"Hakuna Matata" point, but that doesn't mean the feeling of guilt left him just like that.
Most other Disney films that involve character deaths, they have the others grieving for one minute. Next thing we know, they're happy and acting like the feeling of grief and personal loss is nonexistent to them. That, or some kind of revival of the "dead" character or just simply show the character isn't really dead. Sure,
Ray got offed for real in The Princess and the Frog, but the grieving feeling doesn't really stick because his outcome is bittersweet, in a way, because he's reunited with his love, Evangeline.
BH6 basically tackled the idea of grief and personal loss head on instead of having the characters shake it off and sing/dance around the problem.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and guess that members of a
Disney forum aren't saying the film should lose because it's Disney.

The Princess and the Frog and
Frozen say hello. Non-main characters would include Rapunzel's parents in
Tangled, Jane Lynch's character in
Wreck-It Ralph, and Kala in
Tarzan, too. Lilo/Nani, too. Jim Hawkins in TP also deals with "grief," although his father left rather than died.

Even if How to Train Your Dragon 2 does win, Dreamworks will still convince themselves they're on a "downward spiral."

This film next month will change all that

Okay, fine. What I meant is characters dealing with a loved one's
death for the whole movie. In Frozen, Anna and Elsa were grieving over their parents' death for half a minute, but it's never brought up again for the rest of the movie. And after her son's death at the paws of Sabor and Tarzan comes into the picture, Kala makes no mention of hers and Kerchak's biological son again.

Total Bullsh*t. Big Hero 6 should not have won.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Tale of Princess Kaguya was the best film of the nominees but Big Hero 6 was the best of the mainstream animated films by FAR last year! Definitely better than that Dragon thing. The right winner again!!!!!!!!!

Wow, Disney CRUSHED the cartoon world this year. Just as well; it's been all about how the company built itself back up from the troubles they faced a decade ago.
Still, I plan on seeing Song of the Sea one of these days.

Haha! So true^^ It's so great to see Disney Animation back at the top of their game, dominating the field. Perhaps the Pixar monopoly in the animated feature category have been broken? Walt Disney Animation Studios may continue to win in this category, if all Pixar and DreamWorks makes are sequels.

Even though it was expected, I still was really disappointed with the outcome. The Tale of Princess Kaguya should have won in the feature category and The Bigger Picture in the short category. We know very well that Academy voters don't care about animation at all, they don't watch all the nominated films and only vote for the mainstream ones sometimes even without watching them. Opening up the voting to all the members was a huge mistake and has ruined the integrity of the awards in these categories.

Umm... Prince Edward? Need I remind you that one of those Pixar sequels actually did in fact win for Best Animated Feature and got nominated for Best Picture in 2011?

Agreed, Sotrsis! (Spelling) Big Hero 6 only won because a) It was Disney and b) The Good Dinosaur pulled out the last second & The Lego Movie was snubbed. If The Good Dinosaur won, I'd guarantee y'all that TGD would have won just because it's Pixar. Remember how Wreck-It Ralph, which was absolutely brilliant, lost to Brave (which I loved, but didn’t deserve it over WIR) only because Brave was Pixar? If it was reversed or if Brave was Dreamworks, it would have been 100% guaranteed that Wreck-It Ralph would have been locked for an Oscar.
HTTYD 2 should have won. It had everything: Heart, drama, adventure & comedy. Truly spectacular. Minus Tadashi & Baymax, Big Hero 6 wasn't that special. It was just good.

^While I do prefer HTTYD2 over BH6, Princess Kaguya and Song of the Sea were better than both of them, in my opinion. Feast winning was even more insulting. I don't know if you watched the other nominees but Feast was literally the worst. Superficial fluff with the same, tired, regurgitated theme. If it wasn't by Disney and widely released, it wouldn't even have been nominated. I'm really getting sick of Disney & Pixar always winning without deserving it.

Umm... Okay. Some of you guys bitched that Tangled didn't even get nominated and Wreck-It Ralph losing to Brave. But when it comes to Frozen, Big Hero 6 and Feast winning on their respective Oscar categories, you complain that they only won because of the Disney name being on them?
Sheesh, no offense, but you guys are total hypocrites.

True, I've ranted and raved when Tangled never got nominated and that WiR lost to Brave and I haven't even Song of the Sea or The Tale of Princess Whatserface, but do you see me ranting my ass off about BH6 and Feast's wins? No.
