I think you confuse screeching with singing, and you have used that term very often, and I think it is unfounded. What you might call 'screeching' is someone feeling the song, and not once this season did I hear Crystal Bowersox 'screech'. I heard her lose her way in a melody a couple of times, but I have never heard her "screech".
I think I've only used it twice. Both times in the past few weeks, and both times concerning Crystal. Getting into the song does not require screaming off-tune. When someone does that, it sounds like banshee shrieking. Screaming on-tune doesn't bother me, which is why I didn't mind most of Adam Lambert's performances and Siobhan's "Paint It Black" (the only time where her screaming gimmick worked). Still, I've heard many emotional performances outside of Idol that don't require screaming to "get into" a song (and, no, I'm not referring to Miley Cyrus, because I don't like or listen to her either).
As far as future seasons go, they really would've been saved if Elton John had said yes to that $30+ million they offered him. 'Cause I can't really think of someone off the bat that would fit that role as well. They're really screwed, and after this horrible season, it's hard to be sympathetic.

And there's the topper. I am so done with this show. Crystal must be thinking, "I wish I could sing off-key and boring most of the season and still win." Turns out, girls will vote for anyone that has that special part between their legs. Lee Dewyze is down below Hicks and Studdard, who, while not huge sellers, were at least good at what they did.
Moving on though, I enjoyed the tribute they had for Simon. I loved how they had all the former Idols come out (David Cook! Where in the world is DC?), and then David Archuleta was the first non-winning contestant shown.

It was actually kind of emotional, remembering all those seasons. I'm glad Paula was reunited on the show with Simon. They always brought the best out of one another (entertainment-wise). Still, when she was up there speaking, it was very uncomfortable. She looked like a seriously pissed off ex-girlfriend who accidentally grabbed the microphone. But it was nice to see Simon and Paula together again. That was really the only thing I was watching for.
Thanks for the past years of entertainment, Idol, but "All Good Things Must End."

What a fantastic Season Ending for American Idol. From the opening act of Alice Cooper to the surprise appearance by Janet Jackson this was one of the better shows of the entire run of American Idol.
The letdown and worst act of the night, for me, was Christine Aguilera. Now, if there was ever a 'screecher', she was it tonight. But that is just me, as I am not a fan of hers anymore, anyway.
Other guests for the night included two of the surviving Bee Gees, lead vocalist for The Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, Hall and Oates, who brought down the house with their "You Make My Dreams Come True". Alanis Morrisette joined Crystal on stage and they brought down the house, and then Lee DeWyze, the new American Idol for Season 9, was lead singer for Chicago.
I know that I have been pulling for Crystal all season, and that Lee made a very poor showing last night, but once again the popular vote proved me and a lot of other people wrong as Lee DeWyze was crowned American Idol 2010.
One huge highlight for the night was the reappearance of past American Idol winners, Ruben Studdard, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks, and many, many more, along with a lot of contestants from past seasons. It filled the stage with a lot of emotions, and Simon said his goodbyes.
There were some very funny salutes to the "king of mean" Simon Cowell, by Dane Cook, Ricky Gervais, and surprise guest Paula Abdul. They were all actually very well done, and Simon got his chance to say his goodbyes.
All in all this was one of the best Season Finales in recent memory. I will give next season another chance, but I am with most fans, I think they will find it hard to replace Mr. Cowell, even if the rumors about Pers Morgan come true and he comes to Fox next year.
Congratulations Lee DeWyze American Idol 2010.

I cannot believe Lee DeWyze won...
Well, at least Crystal has a career in her future...

Yeah, we're definitely going to have another case of the "Aiken Syndrome" on our hands. No one cares about Ruben Studdard or Chris Allen, in both cases, the runner-up may as well have won. And this is exactly what's happened here. In 5 years, Lee is going to be one of those idols whose name we have a difficult time remembering, and Crystal's going to be super-busy with her career.

Anyone catch David Letterman last night (Monday). Jessica Biel was one of his guests on the couch and the other one was nonother than Lee DeWyze. It was great to hear him talk with Dave and then sing his acoustic version of "Beautiful Day". Can't wait for the "Idol" tour, it isn't coming to Wichita, but it coming to Okahoma City and Kansas City and they are both reachable for me.

I know we're in the off season, but I still think this belongs here:
Ellen Quits Idol
One more step towards cancellation.

It's been so silly with this new Idol judge of the day thing going on.

I mean, honestly, the show's not going to be lasting more than *maybe* one more season after the upcoming one. I'd be staying away from Idol like the plague.

I agree.
The latest rumors are that there'll only be 3 judges now: Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), JLo, and Randy Jackson.
I really hope the rumors that Kara is fired are true.

The one great thing about having Steven Tyler as a judge is that when it comes time for the annual tradition of making "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" even more horrible than it already is (serioulsy Aerosmith what were you thinking when you recorded this?) he can lay into them for butchering his song.
That and if Tyler is really back on drugs we will get incoherent ramblings again (we miss you Paula!).

If any of you watch CBS' "The Early Show", they have been having a big discussion this week about "American Idol". They now have the original Executive Producer, Nigel Lithgoe, back with the show after his three-year hiatus. His take on what is going to happen with this season is very cut and dry. He says if he has his way the only person returning to the show will be Ryan Seacrest. In his words, "It's about time we give the judges panel a makeover". Asked about the rumors of Steven Tyler being a judge or Jennifer Lopez, he said that it is all wishful thinking. He also said that they are talking with Piers Morgan about giving up his chair on "America's Got Talent" to come over to "American Idol" for Season Ten.
Contrary to some of the contributors on this thread, I think that "American Idol" will continue for many years because it is one of the better formats to discover new talent in the United States today.

I just really don't like America's Got Talent, and if Sharon Osbourne ever ends up on American Idol, you can be sure I won't watch.

Sorry, lost any respect for Osbourne after she joked about Susan Boyle. Not that I'm adverse to jokes really (in good taste), but it's funny that she's gained around 50+ pounds since that comment.

I'm actually more interested in this than the upcoming season of "Idol"...
but I'll watch it regardless...

To reiterate the sentiments of some of those commenters: That's yet another reason to never watch Bravo again.
I always love how DioGuardi touts her successes with Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood when, let's be honest, those two could sing "No Boundaries" and somehow make it sell ("NB" was, btw, the first corny winner's single that was actually not included on the debut album, except as a bonus from certain venues; when you're getting snubbed by songs like "Inside Your Heaven," you're not exactly writer of the decade). Besides, the two songs she wrote for Kelly Clarkson's My December and All I Ever Wanted were the worst on each. She also practically wrote all of Ashlee Simpson's first album of suck, as well as Diana Degarmo's failed debut.
