I totally get that Cars is the least well-received of all Pixar films, at least among adults, and I understand your cause for concern about Pixar's reputation (which is quite flattering) but the thing to remember about Pixar is what really makes them stand out is their stories...and they would never release something everyone in the studio wasn't proud of and stood behind. Like I said before, all that you've seen is a teaser trailer and concept art, and a synopsis...before writing it off, definitely wait to see more from the film! This is the very early stages of marketing yet...the movie comes out next summer! So as we release more info, I hope it might gain more appeal and ease any of your worries.[/i]

Lee has a "never say never" attitude towards this, so I don't think we should completely rule out them doing a TS4 some day. and it doesn't have to mean it would ruin anything. if they could somehow outdo TS3 you still think that would ruin their standing? absolutely not. they would be the one of the only studios to pull off a quadtrillogy of movies that were all superb. Thieve beaten the odds twice already, whos to say they couldn't do it for a 4th toy story?

I'm not saying I Want another one, but if I got one, and it was better than TS3, why should I regret it? and why would the industry loose respect for them? I would think they would have more respect for being able to keep it going without the quality diminishing in the slightest.

The funny thing is, having seen the Cars 2 trailer in theaters three times now, I've been strangley excited for it.

I would never mind if they made more Toy Story's. To me, they're classics, and it would be like complaining that they made more than three Charlie Brown specials or Rankin/Bass Santa Clause stories--there's nothing wrong with more as long as they're given the same amount of effort. Cars 2 doesn't even bother me really, because Cars always seemed like the kind of film that was just for mild entertainment, and was never meant to be taken so seriously. It probably helps that I don't completely hate the Mater character either. The guy's reaction to that person's early screening of the movie in blackcauldron85's link kind of voices my thoughts.

The only one I have a huge problem with is the sequel to MI that they supposedly have planned. That's one of their greatest films, and there just feels like there's nothing left to tell. It almost has the same feel as stories like Cinderella or Pinocchio--when it's over, it's over. Plus, if they start making sequels to every one of their stories, I have a feeling the public will get a little annoyed. Good thing they have Brave in the line-up, though I'm worried that one might not be so good.

(to the comment about Rowling's book 5, I always thought it was strange she received so much criticism for that one; it was always my favorite of the series. Of course, it could've been edited more tightly, but so could have 4 and 6)

Totally agree. Something that I'm worried about is this whole potential spy Mater B-plot; not something I'd expect from Pixar. Hope their dazzling talents come through!

More info on the Ken and Barbie short! It's apparently about Bonnie going to Hawaii but accidentally leaving Ken and Barbie behind, so Woody, Buzz, and the gang try to recreate it at home. Here's the article:

Worst Previews wrote:We recently learned that Pixar is working on a "Toy Story" short film that will play in front of "Cars 2" on June 24th. The short is called "Hawaii" and will revolve around Barbie and Ken.

It turns out that the full details can be found in an upcoming children's book called "Play-cation" [Amazon link], which is published by Disney and tells the story of Barbie and Ken's honeymoon immediately following the events of "Toy Story 3."

Plot: Bonnie is off to Hawaii, and Barbie and Ken are excited to go along on their first tropical vacation! But when they're accidentally left behind, it's up to Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the toys to create a Hawaiian paradise right in Bonnie's room.

This isn't the first time that Pixar has revealed the story of one of their upcoming shorts in a book. The plot of "Day and Night," that played in front of "Toy Story 3," was revealed in a similar way last year.

Or maybe they stowed away in her backpack, hoping to sneak into her travel luggage?

I don't know if Bonnie would care too terribly much if she found toys that didn't belong to her in her backpack or something. After all, she didn't even question the fact that she lost her new cowboy doll, only to find it in a box belonging to the nice young man who showed up and gave her lots of presents. Really, I don't think she'd mind. :P

I think it's disappointing that Mater's silly plot is taking the main focus here. That, I think, takes away from it, because I always thought Lightning was to be the main character. This is like an enhanced version of Mater's Tall Tales (Mater and Lightning go on some preposterous adventure that's really putting Mater as the hero). Sigh...

Well, are we 100% sure of that? I mean, trailers are hugely deceptive and for all we know, the whole Mater spy thing could be a sub-plot that lasts about ten-ish minutes.

Remember in the first Toy Story 3 trailer, it seemed like Buzz turning Spanish would be a major focus of the plot? In the final film, he was like that for five minutes, tops.

On the website that Amy posted, it states that Mater is the main character, and that Lightning is taking the "back seat".

Agreed - we'll have more clips and trailers coming soon so perhaps reserve your worries until you see them?

Thanks so much for that information, Disney, because......

FILLMORE'S BACK! HURRAH! Though I wonder who his new voice actor will be.

And less happily...

No mention of Doc... :( And looks like Bonnie Hunt won't even need to be in this one at all.

Thanks for the feedback and sharing the new poster! I have another one for you:

http://www.impawards.com/2011/cars_two_ver3.html

I know you are excited about some of the old cars coming back...and sad that some others aren't...but part of the fun of a sequel are new characters mixing with the old, right? Are there any ones you're excited to see? Finn McMissle maybe? Or Professor Z?

Thanks for that poster! It looks awesome! I wanna see how Finn McMissile will somehow mesh with Lightning's races. It's inevitable, right?
