No, it was new for the should-have-been-but-wasn't-2-Discs Special Edition.

I can't believe a Special Edition is FINALLY coming!
I'd guess the preview would be with...
The Secret of the Magic Gourd
Mary Poppins: 45th Anniversary Edition
Space Buddies
Oliver & Company: 20th Anniversary Edition
High School Musical 3: Senior Year
... and maybe Bolt and Lilo and Stitch.
So we'll probably get one with all of those titles!
Can't wait!

I can't believe this is not coming on blu ray! I rather double dip on bluray and get it now than later. I will just buy the black cauldron dvd for two reasons: The anamorphic transfer and to support the movie on DVD so we can get better editions in the future.

NO to DVD, YES to Blu Ray!

It's obvious by now that Disney is only releasing their Platinums, newer releases, & DTV titles on Blu-ray as of now. I think their smart in doing this for now. The market isn't quite where it needs to be for them to invest so much in Blu-ray. I think within the next year we'll start seeing some of the older, lesser known titles being released on Blu-ray. Or at least I hope we do! It wouldn't surpise me the least little bit if within the next 2-3 years Disney bombards us with Blu-rays! They know what their doing...yes, some may disagree but Disney is a smart company. They know people will double & triple dip on titles just so they can have the "newest restored version". In all honesty, you can't blame them.

Does anyone think that the gallery and trailer will get carried over to the new edition? If not, this will be the only Disney movie I'll have two of on DVD. Since it seems that the new
Lilo & Stitch DVD will definitely have the long documentary on it, I will probably sell that DVD soon (and if Disney is lying to us about that, I wil be upset!), but I don't know about TBC. I could sell the 2 together at CD Warehouse or FYE and get another movie with the store credit...
The TBC trailer is on YouTube, so even though I'd like to have the trailer on the DVD (and I'm still, deep down, waiting for Disney to release a trailer DVD...a DVD with just DAC trailers on it...it may never happen, but I'm still hoping...!), if that isn't on the new DVD, I'll be sad but not totally heartbroken. BUT, I refuse to be without the image gallery, since it's amazing. Does anyone know when the official press release will be out? Does Disney even do official press releases anymore? Does UD even get the official press releases anymore, if Disney does still release official press releases? I can't seem to recall any recent press releases on UD anymore...there used to be threads about a movie that included the press release...
I'm blabbing now...that is all...!

So.............
any idea when we might have word on when the movie will be re-released, and the bonus features on it? The wait is kinda driving me mad.
I am honestly hoping the deleted scenes on the DVD are the completed scenes cut from the film, and not just some storyboard concept scenes. Otherwise, I will not be happy at all.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh honey. You'll be lucky if there's concept art of those scenes on the DVD. I suggest you start prepping yourself to be not happy at all.

Well, I'm not totally holding my breath on the whole deal, let alone holding my breath on hoping for an uncut edition anytime soon. But think about it.
The Wizard of Oz had scenes cut from the movie, and put on the DVD releases. But I haven't much else to say. ^_^;

Yes, but do you want to know something?
The Wizard of Oz =/= The Black Cauldron
"The Wizard of Oz" is a beloved classic that has stood the test of time and has made quite a good return investment. "The Black Cauldron" is a movie that Disney would prefer you forgot and flopped.

You know what stinks about Disney? I think they ARE trying to forget the movie even existed.
Heck, I think they're actually trying to brainwash people away from the classic stuff they did. >: (

I have to say that I'm surprised The Black Cauldron of all films has ended up being planned for receiving a special edition ahead of a few other titles (I think we all can assume that this "special edition" won't exactly be a platinum edition, but still). Being cynical, I presume that part of the whole thing has to do with Disney wondering what to release and repackage now that they've released all the animated classics at least once now on DVD and with Blu-Ray still being in it's infancy (the DVDs of Mary Poppins, The Sword in the Stone and others kinda support this theory). :-p

That would be so totally AWESOME.
Plus, we'd finally have a DVD release of the trailers for
Make Mine Music,
Fun and Fancy Free,
Melody Time,
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad,
Peter Pan,
The Sword in the Stone,
The Aristocats,
Robin Hood,
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh,
The Rescuers,
The Fox and the Hound,
The Great Mouse Detective,
The Lion King,
The Hunchback of Notre Dame,
Hercules,
Brother Bear,
Home on the Range,
Chicken Little,
Meet the Robinsons, and
Bolt, since none of their DVDs came with the original trailer (though the last 5 were likely on other DVDs, just not their own, and
The Aristocats and
The Fox and the Hound had re-release trailers).

The trailer for this special edition is on "The Secret of the Magic Gourd" DVD. Can anyone post screencaps of the trailer (or post the whole trailer on YouTube)? I can't wait to see it!

Anyone have the Secret of the Magic Gourd DVD yet? If so, is there a trailer of The Black Cauldron Special Edition on it, and how does it look?

I bought both Mary Poppins and Oliver and Company today. My local Best Buy store accidentally put out copies of Oliver a bit too soon, so I took advantage. I will pop them both in later tonight and see if there is a trailer on either one of them.

I bought The Secret of the Magic Gourd, and yes, there is a trailer for TBC. It is in fullscreen (but most trailers probably are?), unless the settings on my DVD player weren't set...? I was going to transcribe the commercial, but I didn't. It basically says, "A warrior, a princess, and an evil emperor. 'The Black Cauldron' on Special Edition Disney DVD. Featuring an all-new game, deleted scenes, and more." And it mentioned blackcauldrondvd.com, which I just tried going to...it's not up yet. It brought me to Google.

Oooh! So it's NOT gonna be a total letdown, from what the trailer says.
By the way, does the trailer portray the tone of the movie- dark and foreboding- perfectly?

Well, we already knew about the deleted scenes, so unless the game is new info, then nothing new was told in the ad.
I don't think that the tone was very dark at all, to be honest. Not like the original theatrical trailer or anything. But any positive recognition is okay in my book. And it showed Gurgi, which might be a selling point for some parents who have never heard of the movie before.
