I really like the color scheme and layout for the most part of the Masterpiece Collection release (though I wish Phillip were with Aurora instead of Malificent), but the three year old in me still loves the Classics cover art. If they could work with that concept, maybe with Aurora and Phillip on the bottom, the title, and Maleficent above the title.

I just wish they would totally re-design a new cover and make Aurora look like she actually does in the movie!..... i.e. WITHOUT the hair extensions and platinum blonde hair!

Couldn't agree more. So far the UK special edition cover is the best.

Though I like the composition of a lot of the covers posted here, particularly the UK Special Edition (which I have), they're all in rather naff colours and not representative of the film's superior colour palette.

Did anyone noticed that Aurora gets a lot of attention lately? Enchanted Tales, her Platinum Edition,i hope that Cinderella will still be the franchise's icon.

Aurora has alot of attention, because Disney wants people to buy
Enchanted Tales. When
Cinderella III came out, Cinderella was everywhere, and last year when TLM came out on DVD Ariel was everywhere. Disney decides who is popular when they want money. If
Enchanted does well, expect Giselle to be everywhere. It's just what Disney does. Their consumer product branch is Evil

, lol

Yeah, but Cinderella is the franchise's icon (since she has the best story-all people know it and it's perfact for such franchise-a peasent that turnd into a princess),if Enchanted will do well then Giselle will be a Disney Princess for sure (and i bet it will).
I think that Cinderella had more attention when her Platinum Edition came then Cinderella III.
I do noticed that,it was allways Snow White,Cinderella,Aurora and Belle, and Ariel,Jasmine,Pocahontas and Mulan were aside, now it's abou the most populer princess and the princess that gets a new release.

Sorry to bring up this old topic, but new to the boards, and just really excited to hear that Sleeping Beauty is finally getting a Platinum in the fall. I'm a huge fan of SB, and of Prince Phillip as you can probably tell by my user name
I hope that they release a 40 minute to hour documentary on the making of the movie like they do with the other platinums. I was really disappointed when I bought the Special Edition, that it was just the same short one at the end of the 97 video release. I hope that they do a featurette that talks more about the movie than just specially mostly on the animation. I was a little disappointed that in the old one they didn't talk much about Bruns's score, or Bill Shirley, Eleanor Audley, Verna Felton, Barbara Luddy, and Barbara Jo Allen and their voice work for the movie.
As somebody suggested earlier too on the boards, I think it would be interesting if they did use a cover for the DVD that was based on the old movie posters for the film. My favorite was the 1986 re-release poster:

Well hello there Prince Phillip Fan:
Two things, first of all - WELCOME TO UD!! Secondly, way to go using the Search rather than starting a whole new thread. You're off to a good start!

Thank you so much for the welcome! Really glad to be here!
Sorry, the last link to the picture didn't work, and I finally just figured how to add pictures into the topic. Anyway, here's the '86 poster I was talking about:

Welcome
PrincePhillipFan! I hope you will have some fun here
I really love that poster. It gives a great feel of the movie. BUT the only thing I don't like, is that Prince Phillip is in it twice. I hate it when they do that on DVD covers or posters. They layout and colours are beautiful though

Am I right in saying that Aurora was never one of Disney's most popular princesses, sure she was always kind of ...there, but the public doesn't really know who she is as say; Ariel, Snow White, Jasmine...
I think that with Sleeping Beauty in the Platinum Collection, the popularity of the line, and with the agressive Disney marketing Aurora could finally find that solid place in the princess line.

They should make a good sequel and focus more on her, she is the title character after all.

Given the artistic style of the original Disney wouldn't be capable of producing a sequel that would be up to par with the original. I may be wrong, but through inflation and so forth Sleeping Beauty is still the most expensive film the company ever made. I just don't think the company would want to spend that much, unless they were to make it amazing and release it on the big screen. I can't really see any of this happening though because the story is basically over. What could be cool though would be a story focusing on the kingdom before Aurora's birth and perhaps a past attempt of Maleficent's evil doings! That would be very interesting to me.

This statement is wrong on SO many levels. First of all, most of the Disney sequels absolutely terrible. Thankfully Disney either caught on to this, or stopped caring to make them, but there will be no more Disney direct to DVD sequels.
The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning will mark the last new direct to DVD Disney sequel. I'm not trying to be rude at all, I just detest Disney sequels. I think they are terrible and often times they totally neglect the story from the original movie, and I personally feel that they taint the legacy of the original film.

I'll likely pick up the Blu-Ray, if the bonus features are up to scratch. Is it known whether this is going to be a 2-disc release? I'm planning to pick up an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo drive for my PC early next year... even right now you can pick one up for about $280 CDN. I still refuse to buy into the thousands of dollar flat-panel HDTV crap on principle, but my computer monitors have been running at higher than HD resolution for years, so it should suffice until the 3-4k HDTVs I find to have an acceptable picture come down in price. Though it would probably also be possible to output the video from my computer to my CRT HDTV, with the right adapters.
