I really hope "You Can Fly: The Making of Peter Pan" isn't simply the 15 minute making of already available on the special edition. I have come to expect a much more detailed, in depth, and lengthy making of for the Platinum Editions. It would be a HUGE dissapointment to have that short making of recycled. The SE of "Sleeping Beauty" ported over the short making of feature from it's previous VHS release, so I'm really hoping Disney doens't get lazy and just slap that on the second disc. I mean, the other bonus features sound good, but I want an in depth hour long making of. I'll be very dissapointed if that's all it is.

Still no news of the 1951 Christmas show :( . I seriously doubt that we will get the silent movie version on this set. Although I think we will get the mono track on this set.

From front page:
"The digitally restored film will be offered in 1.33:1 fullscreen (approximating the Academy Ratio it was created for) and your choice of an all-new 5.1 channel Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix, the restored original theatrical soundtrack, or French and Spanish dubs."

Yay Mono track!

If there porting over the stupid DVD storybook from the older special edition they could at least port over the Audio Comentary.

Why are ther 2 english 5.1 tracks and no mono track?

Yeah I'm also hoping for Walt Disney's X-mas Show" too, it played a huge role in PP's production so they should include it on the 2nd disc. Also I believe they should bring back audio commentaries in the Art Gallery department (really had fun learning the lil facts). As for the 1921 silent film, I believe if Disney was given full rights to the film they should put it on the 1st disc and it would make the dvd alot more valueable.

write back please

Josh, I'm going to have nightmares- seeing Peter Pan's face on Ariel's body not only caught me off guard, it kind of scared me... :o

I'm also hoping for a "long" documentary...

uh i'm just wondering but will they include(animat) the deleted song that peter was supposed to sing to tink when she gets hurt by the bomb, because I was just watching the movie earlier today and its really odd how theirs this big dramatic scene about tink almost dying then like 2 minutes later she pops up with peter to save wendy. I know some of you hate they inclusion of deleted songs into the films but I they should re includ it even thought they probably won't.

The Christmas show would be awesome!! And maybe they could just use the footage of the old making-of and add new stuff to it to make it longer.
I love long documetary-like making-ofs not just little featurettes.

Ditto. I think the extensive Aladdin documentary spoiled us more than the extensive second disc of Snow White. While SW's doc was okay (I think it was around 36-40 minutes), the Aladdin doc was so much better IMO. Of all the making-of docs in the Platinums, Aladdin's always been my favorite, and I hope Peter Pan gets something just as good.

Anyway, for those wishing to acquire the silent version that was in the French 2-disc and Japanese 3-disc, it's readily available in R1 if Disney doesn't deliver:

Peter Pan (1924)

It's got the following bonus features:

Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono)
New Transfer from 35mm Archive Elements
Orchestral Score by Philip C. Carli
Essay by Film Historian Frederick C. Szebin
Photo Gallery: production stills & promotional materials
Reminiscences by Actress Esther Ralston

SRP $29.95 from Kino Video

Does anyone else think that Peter Pan looks like The Grinch on the cover?

I'd say there is a slight resembleance

Like I said before, I'm worried about: a) the lack of mentioning the Christmas show, and b) the recycling of a 15 minute featurette. I'll forgive the latter if we end up with a boatload (excuse the pun) of other features, but I will absolutely not forgive the former, especially since we got One Hour in Wonderland.

Call me lame, but the Magical Environment thing sounds neat, even if it's fluff and nothing more. I loved seeing "You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!" done in CG at Mickey's Philharmagic, even if it was only for 10 seconds. The Magical Environment feature will actually give us a chance to stop and take in the sights.

Well, you do have to remember that from Febuary of this year to October it is 9, practically 8 months, where from October of last year to Febuary of this year was only 3 or 4 months. So yes, you would have to be more patient about the October release.

I schedueled March 6th on my cell phone to tell me that I need to pick up Peter. Ha Ha!

Thats a good point actually, So Peter Pan is not that far away lol, Last time Lady and The Tramp came quicker after Cinderella and The Little Mermaid took a full year after Cinderella's release. I guess Im not that excited for The Jungle Book since I havent seen any trailers or any advertisement yet, dont get me wrong I love the Jungle Book its another favorite and I dont even have it on DVD yet, same for 101 Dalamations. Probably once I see some cover art Ill get all unpacient and excited lol.

I think the reason for 2 5.1 tracks is because one is Dolby Digital and the other is either DTS or that "Disney Enhanced Home Theatre Mix" (which I've never been able to tell apart from Dolby except for the little trailer that comes up at the start).

What I'm wondering about is the aspect ratio. Was it originally done at 1.33:1 or are they starting to get into that bad pattern of releasing older movies in foolscreen without offering the OAR.

Not counting the alternate Academy Ratio version of Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan was the last full-length film from Disney to be animated and presented in the 1.33:1 AR, so the fullscreen ratio here would be correct.

Would be incorrect if they tried to matte it. The 1960s and 1970s films were animated in 1.33:1 with the intention of matting in theatres to 1.75:1, so both ratios would be correct for them, but anything pre-Lady and the Tramp would only be 1.33:1

Captian Hook=Captain Jack?!

Well, the press release isn't all that revealing but still pretty good. But I have one BIG problem with it.
Their exciting adventures introduce them to
unforgettable characters including The Lost Boys, Captain Hook (the Original Jack Sparrow) and his
ship filled with swashbuckling pirates, and “Tic Toc” Croc.
WTF?!?!?!!!! Okay did Johnny Depp say he got inspiration from Captian Hook or something because if he did I never heard that. WTF Disney, W-T-F?
