I doubt the smoking will be cut, for one thing it's there in practically every scene and it would be noticeable that something was missing from he posture.

I think the biggest concern, and this is supposedly the reason that restoration for this title has taken so long, is that the Lowry people were having trouble trying to restore the film, with the computers rubbing out all the lines created in the original xeroxography process.

Wouldn't they have had the same problem with The Jungle Book?

In theory, I was just reporting what was said about 2-3 years ago specifically related to 101 Dalmatians. I believe the source was a Lowry employee or someone involved with the restoration process.

Actually, I don't find it odd at all that a Sleeping Beauty trailer's already been classified? Why? Take a look at the Cinderella DVD. Not only does it begin with a trailer for the then-next Platinum (Lady and the Tramp), but tucked away in the Sneek Peaks section is the trailer for The Little Mermaid, a whole year before that film's release. It seems the same thing's happening again, though if we're to trust DVDTalk's review, trailers for neither film (101 Dalmatians and Sleeping Beauty) show up on The Jungle Book DVD. If that's the case, we may see trailers for both on the Meet the Robinsons and/or Ratatouille DVDs instead.

Can anyone upload the 101 Dalmations PE and Sleeping Beauty PE trailer when the Jungle Book PE will be released? and The Little Mermaid III if it has a trailer (they got way too far with The Little Mermaid III).

I am going to be really disappointed if there's not a trailer for 101 Dalmatians: Platinum Edition on The Jungle Book's DVD. That is part of the excitment of getting a new platinum edition, looking to the future and seeing what is coming next. I'm hoping the word on the street it wrong, I will be really surprised if there isn't a 101 Dalmatians trailer, it has kinda become a staple of the Platinum Edition DVD's. I guess we'll see soon enough, only 10 more days!

I know but i don't think it's true,since when Platinum Edition don't have a trailer to the next one? the review didn't even talked about trailers.

I'll see if it's on our Jungle Book SE in November, maybe the UK will get one because we get the Spring PE earlier usually while the US gets the Fall PE earlier

Disney seems to have a "hero rule" when it comes to smoking. If a main character/hero/protagonist is seen smoking like Donald/Goofy/Pecos Bill etc, Disney considers them a role model and that is probably why their scenes are most likely edited.

Characters like villains usually are allowed because being the "bad characters", they assumption can be made that children are less likely to imitate them.

Also the fact that smoking is in tact on the Treasures DVD is neither here nor there. The Treasures were for collector's and the whole point of them was to release the material uncut.

A wider release aimed at children such as the Cartoon Favourites or whatever they were called and titles like Melody Time unfortunately seem to get the chop.

Besides in those cases it was just a few seconds here and there. I very sincerely doubt we have anything to worry about with 101 dalmatians.

Well, what of Pinocchio? Sooner or later, that one is getting a PE treatment and when it does, will that one have the smoking deleted?

First wave human error. The correct dialogue has since surfaced on another release and that wouldn't have happened in Disney were intent on only releasing the modified version. Similarly the original animation of the peddler was shown in Leonard's introduction, and they wouldn't have done that either if they wanted to lock it in the vault. Also for international releases of the Treasures the mistake was corrected and the original included.

I mean why would Disney have deliberately decided they couldn't show those two relatively minor things compared to the mammys, blkackfaces and nazis that were released?

The Treasures slip ups must be attributeable to human error.

I have to say that the UK Lowry-infused Pinocchio doesn't look like a Lowry-infused Pinocchio at all. Once, Disneykid wonderfully described the Lowry restorations as a sort of magic tool which "peels away" all layers of imperfections from the film. I'm sorry to say, their Pinocchio restoration still exhibits a fair number of speckles, blemishes, and photographed dust particles (especially in dark scenes, which Pinocchio has a lot of). The video quality is still very, very good, but not as good as the usual Lowry work. Indeed, Pinocchio seems like the odd one out in their history of Disney restorations.


Wonder why. Maybe they felt lazy since the film wasn't getting a Platinum release yet?
