Just a heads up for people picking up the Ultimate Box Set next week. Check your Superman 3 discs. There are reports that the old 2001 edition of Superman 3 has gotten pressed and shipped out in some sets.

Can't believe they messed up like this. Hopefully they will offer a replacement for people that end up with the old version.

Yes, it absolutely sucks that they messed up like this. As I'm not really picking this set up for Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, I'm going to go ahead and buy this on Tuesday. If I happen to get a set with the old Superman III disc, then, if a disc replacement is offered, I'll go that route. I'm sure that will be the case, providing the retail sets are shipped with the wrong disc.

Hopefully, Warner is already working on repackaging the sets and only the initial first week sets will contain the old disc. I pre-ordered on Amazon, but since I chose the free shipping, it won't ship until December 5, so maybe...just maybe...it will be from a "fixed" batch with the new Supes 3.

And if worse comes to worse, and the disc replacement program takes too long, I'll simply buy Supes 3 on its own, trade the discs, and give it to my cousin for Christmas.

Well the individual release of Superman III, and the Reeve box set contain the new version of Superman III. Its just the Ultimate set thats messed up. A few people who have already gotten the box set have confirmed that it is the old 2001 disc in the Ultimate set.

We will have to see if Warner issues a replacement for this, or corrects it in another batch of the sets. I hope they will do something similar to what was done for the messed up discs in the Back to the Future Trilogy set. That would be nice.

Personally I'm going to wait on the set for now. I'm sure it will be on sale later down the road, and hopefully the issue with the Superman III disc will be fixed by then.

Warner Brothers Makes "Super Blunder"

From www.dvdactive.com

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/ ... under.html
Further Details:
Those of you who have pre-ordered copies of Warner Home Video's forthcoming Superman: Ultimate Collector's Edition might want to think twice. Due to a massive technical blunder, the Superman III: Deluxe Edition discs contain the original 2001 release of the film, rather than the advertised disc with commentary, additional scenes and a vintage featurette.

Reports indicate that The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection and the individual release of Superman III: Deluxe Edition are unaffected. At this time there has been no word on whether or not Warner intend to issue replacement discs. Even if replacement discs are made available, non-US residents who purchased the set will most likely be left out in the cold. When you combine this with the fact that the advertised original 1978 Dolby Stereo soundtrack for Superman: The Movie is also missing, what could have been the year's best release becomes a less than attractive proposition...

One of the reasons I rarely pre-order. I've never had a problem walking to a local store and finding a new release that I want to buy. Even if it's a rarer one, Toronto still has a couple extremely good stores that get in a few copies pretty much everything.

I've never seen the point in pre-ordering something off Amazon unless I absolutely had no choice. Also, buying a DVD off a place like Amazon eliminates the chance of examining it in person before buying it. I don't know about anyone else here, but I've often encountered DVDs in stores with damaged packaging and loose discs shaking around in there, likely getting scratched up. Why would I risk getting one of those from Amazon, and having to go through the pain of shipping it back?

Well actually this is for the USA so you In Canada might be safe. It appears while reading the forums of Dvdactive.com . In other countries such as the UK region 2 and the Region 3 version it is as advertised. Those versions do not have the missing bonus features but I would either

A: Buy from UK if you have a multi region DVD Player

Or

B: Wait and see if some a Canada report shows whether it has this goof up or not.

Still, most of the time U.S. and Canada are supplied with all the same DVDs since we're all Region 1... the only differences are usually in the inserts, which have to have english and french on some parts of them.

Could probably be merged with the existing 2006: The year of Superman! thread.

Anyways, I pre-ordered via Amazon to help support UD and also because I haven't really found reports of it being cheaper anywhere else, and I'm not about to go to BestBuy and shell out the same amount of money *plus tax* when I can get it on Amazon with free shipping. Plus, every order I've gotten from Amazon always came in pristine condition, so I never had to worry about loose discs.

While it'll definitely cost me a little bit more, I'll probably just buy Supes III on its own at Wal-Mart, trade the discs, and give it to my cousin for Christmas. Also, given the fact that he's one of those "I care for the movie, don't give a rat's ass about bonus features", I doubt he'd miss the commentary, deleted scenes, and vintage documentary.

Actually Escapay, on that site www.dvdactive.com it talks about how Warner Brothers could do a recall just on the Superman Movie III disc and then send a replacement via the mail. I guess similair to how Universal did something with The Back to the Future box where I guess there was a problem with it and they had people mail it in. I actually missed that boat but oh well. I still Plan on Buying this 14-disc set as I don't own any of the original or the new Superman Movies and this seems like the perfect set to get all of them including Superman Returns in it. If they offer a disc replacement for people who want it I will mail it in or do whatever needs to be done to claim that disc.

Also I highly doubt that the original Superman Movie will have disc replacement since its only flaw is the missing original dolby audio and has the remastered version or something to that effect.

However I will be picking this up on Friday since that is Payday for me and I only have enough money for Robin Hood: Most Wanted Edition on Tuesday. I might buy the Superman III on Friday separatley depending on what Dvd active website shows by then.

Also I try to plan my doctor's appointments on Tuesdays. Usually I have to go out of town to go to the doctor so I just go to Wal-mart on those days. However on Friday is Payday and I have to see a genetic's doctor and in that same town is a SUPER WAL-MART :P

Also you are probably right this should be merged with that Superman Thread but I didn't think of that at the time.... I just figured this was a big story so for those that were going to get it on Tuesday should know about it before they open it up are dissapointed...then again for those that don't know and find out the hard way could always file a lawsuit with Warner Brothers for false advertising :P :P

Anyway Off to bed... I gotta prepare myself to go to my Cousin -in Law's Visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday is the Funeral   Oh Wait tomorrow's Monday... I wish this thing could just get over with the funeral and the visitation :(

I'm sure there will be a disc replacement program, but I really don't like going through the whole process and on the plus side, gets some Christmas shopping done for my cousin (I'll be giving him my old editions of Supes I and Supes II as well).

I pre-ordered mine on Amazon, but given the fact that I chose free shipping, and that Warners is aware of their blunder, their is a slight slight slight chance that since mine ships a week after the initial release, they could already have fixed versions ready for shipping and replacing others. Of course, I won't find out until the end of next week...

A good policy.

But this is Warner Bros., so in their defense I feel I should say that usually, they do a bang-up job and most of the time there would be good reason to be suspicious of them. So I've certainly bought my share on Warner Bros. discs without reading up on them. I guess I'm just glad nothing major happened with the Batman 2-disc movie re-issues. :D

Hey, now. That 2-disc special edition was a brilliant move. It now gives people some kind of incentive to buy the movie.

Aw this sucks for people who have already preordered.

I'm not all that worried since all I've preordered was the re-release of Supergirl. I love that movie.

Well, I will probably only get around to a cursory look at Superman 3 so I am not that concerned. What I am really after is Superman 1,2,Returns and the animated cartoons which have finally been remastered.

Well.. while it does not say that in the initial article... Some people from the UK replyed saying that their Region 2 version did not have this goof up. Nor did the Region 3 which I think is Australia but correct me if I am wrong. Read the replies underneath the initial article.

the Region 2 isn't released yet they were commenting on the Christopher Reeve Collection which is different from the Superman Ultimate Collection
