Just found out these toys based on Sleeping Beauty back in 1996 by Mc Donalds.
They´re really neat!
Did you know about them?

I´m surprised on just how big they are for being just Happy Meal toys.

Back in the days when the hapy meal toys were worth it

I remember the Snow White ones, they were big, too.
I love how Auroras dress is blue and not pink.

To be honest, I´m just amazed they made these toys specifically for the movie.
This is a movie that, aside of the faults it has, makes more than enough for them in terms of style, animation, Maleficent, the fairies, Phillip, the soundtrack...

I just got back from the press screening for "Maleficent" and while I can't give my opinion on it (due to embargo), my one piece of advice is to see it as a new take on the fairy tale rather than a live-action version of the animated film.

Tbh, I've been thinking of this similar to the
Once Upon a Time TV series or Gregory Maguire's
Wicked. They may borrow some window dressing from the Disney version (like the Maleficent name, her appearance, etc.), but mostly their take is a departure.
EDIT: Oh, wait,
Wicked was a retelling of the TWoO film itslef. Never mind about that one.

And of the Oz books.
What really goes on for
Once Upon ATime,
Wicked, and
Maleficent is that all of these stories are based on previous stories and their differences make us decide whether or not to call them "the stories", "the stories you know but with parts you didn't", "how the 'real' stories went", "new takes on the stories", or "re-imaginings of the stories". It just amounts to how many differences there are, or what kind of differences there are.
But Maleficent was supposed to be the evil fairy's life and what led up to the events in Disney's Sleeping Beauty, told through her eyes. It just seems that the number of differences between the events in Disney's Sleeping Beauty and the events in this film are so many that it's creators and fans are lableing it "a new take" on or "re-imagining" of the Sleeping Beauty tale.

I have bought the soundtrack on Itunes and James Newton Howard's score is not only breathtaking, but it is his personal best work since
King Kong. If you listen to the entire track of: "Maleficent is Captured", it makes Christophe Beck's entire score to
Frozen sound like it was played by the Silver String Submarine Band from
Our Gang.
Seriously though, it was an amazing soundtrack and worth the price; and now I am more excited than ever for the movie which is coming in 3 days!

Will be interested to hear your thoughts on it. When does the embargo drop?

For Canadian reviewers, it's the actual release day. So I'll be sure to post my full thoughts on Friday. Needless to say, it'll be very interesting to see how Sleeping Beauty fans feel about the full movie (it should be noted that while I like Sleeping Beauty, it's never been one of my favourite Disney films).

You know estefan, I'm glad that Linda Woolverton has avoided the cliche battle sequence (which
Alice in Wonderland did not need to begin with) where our main character puts on a Joan of Arc type armor; (judging from the footage from TV spots) and that stupid hero's destiny cliche, god I HATE that (except for
The Lego Movie which used it well).
Alice did it, and so did
Snow White and the Huntsman.
