I checked by the Rotten Tomatoes page to see Beauty and the Beast has a 74% fresh consensus. Honestly, this comes off as disheartening. :(

Sorry for nitpicking and my ignorance, but what were so spoilerish about those clips?
Sotiris wrote:new song "Evermore" is simply amazing! I love it! :D
To be honest, the first half of the song was too tedious and self-important, but he second part was better. Just not good enough to make me warrant it.
taei wrote:LOL! Too late! People have already confirmed that they're boycotting this movie (because of the homosexuality). Judging by the fact that this is considered a kids movie, I'd say the movie is looking at a 10-20 mil loss based solely on that news piece.
Sorry for nitpicking, but where's your source?

And though the fuzz about the vague gay implications of the scenes doesn't surprise me at all, it's still ridiculous that it has received so much negative fuzz. As a bisexual male myself (yes, I'll admit my gender), I'm applaud the indications, yet it's disheartening that it receives backlash (regardless of my own personal bias around it, due to the naysayers who will always pick on homosexuality for obvious reasons).
And besides, Disney has (unofficially) introduced a homosexual character with Hugo in Hunchback, due to Djali being a male in this version (though I doubt this was intentional, due to how little Disney themselves has cited it)

Btw, Luke's review of the film is up! And it's quite positive, even more than his reviews for the remakes of Cinderella and The Jungle Book; http://www.dvdizzy.com/beautyandthebeast-2017-film.html

Bill Condon said, "There would have been people who would've preferred that kind of Austrian-curtain yellow dress for Belle [that she wore in the animated movie], but we couldn't do that and stay true to the period." That's a reference to the scene from The Sound of Music when Maria makes the children play clothes from curtains. He's saying the 1991 dress looks like drapes.

I was disappointed by the clip from the "Belle" scene when it came out. Emma Watson is miscast. She can't sing the role and seems sort of lifeless in the part. And for that matter, Ewan McGregor is a little obnoxious as Lumiere. I wish they'd cast an actual Frenchman in the role, maybe Jean Dujardin, for instance. But the more I see from the Beast, the more Dan Stevens I see peeking through, which can only be a good thing... looking forward to his post transformation stuff, the man is sexy.

Evermore is really fantastic. I think I may like it more than If I Can't Love Her, which I've adored ever since I first heard it.

You know, I actually never picked up on the original LeFou as being gay-- there are plenty of macho men with sycophantic underlings in the real world with no homoerotic connections. With that said, I can understand a gay reading of the character. And it's all there, even in the short clip from Gaston, the way Josh Gad winks and turns the head of one of bar goers. The "exclusively gay moment" sounds a little lame and predictable, but hey, if LeFou can be queer, maybe we're one step closer to getting a real, honest to goodness gay Prince or Princess. I think I'll live to see that in my lifetime. :)

But all this folderol about this adaptation being the first Disney movie to feature an independent princess and an interracial kiss and all that is especially scoff inducing because it's demonstrably untrue.

Did you read in new information, it has been revealed he will be gay al the way to the end, even in the celebration dance! So he is gay! Yay! Or he's not because, as Josh Gad says, the script never said to him he was gay...? So he never played him as gay? Hm I guess he's not. :(

I looked up Austrian curtains to see what he was talking about. Googling Austrian curtains in images reveals curtains divided into sections with round scrunched/ruffled ripples in them, that look just like the real life attempts at making Belle's 1991 dress. In my opinion gloves would ruin the live-action 2017 look even further, though. And personally, I don't care that Belle's dress in the 1991 film isn't historically accurate as I find it to be the best Disney dress ever after Cinderella's 1950 one. I think that dress is amazing! Oh, and if you look-up the 1955 film The Glass Slipper, you find off-the-shoulder sleeves and the Austrian curtain look in that Cinderella's 1700's dress. So maybe that kind of dress really could have existed in the 1700's. I am not sure if that dress is truly based accurately in he 1700's, but if it was, they should have just done Belle's dress similarly!

I'm in the group of people who are not okay with this inclusion because this is a family movie. Like, it's fine if its in a movie for adults, but I think that parents should be given the opportunity to discuss this subject with their kids whenever they think it is appropriate. So it's totally understandable why some might not want to go see it.

As for the whole Russia thing, they could just cut out that moment.....
I mean, that's possibly what my country is going to do, given the fact that they cut out every single kiss in a movie that is PG or G.

This was a really bad decision made by Disney... And again, will probably cost them a lot of money in the box office.
I don't think Disney has screwed up this bad before, this might be solely be Condon's fault.

You're right, Austrian curtains look just like Belle's dress. I thought he meant there was a type of Austrian dress referred to as a curtain dress so I was looking that up. I love Belle's dress too so I don't mind either that it's not historically accurate. Especially since the castle has been isolated for 10 years so Belle was likely wearing a dress that someone in the castle wore generations ago like maybe the prince's mother or an ancestor of his. In that case, it makes sense that the dress wouldn't fit the exact time period of the film. It could even be a costume worn by Wardrobe from her opera days. I just looked up the Cinderella movie you mentioned and her dress looks really similar to Belle's so you're right that maybe that style of dress was popular in the 1700s. Either that, or people have mistakenly begun to attribute it to that era now, but either way I agree that the live-action dress should have looked more like that.

My husband thinks that the only actor [he can think of] to play Gaston would be the actor who plays The Mountain on Game of Thrones:
http://www.101greatgoals.com/wp-content ... untain.jpg

I just watched one of the B-roll footage videos, and this stuck out to me like a sore thumb: Belle looks young...I just looked up Emma Watson's age, and she's 26, but she looks younger. I just looked up Luke Evans' age, and he's 37. While that's not a *huge* age gap in real life, it just stuck out to me that they look of different ages.

Okay, I'm watching another B-roll footage that disneyprincess11 posted. This Gaston is *not* "roughly the size of a barge."

Eleven years is not be a huge obstacle or gap when both ages have reached adulthood (and since I had brothers with that age gap, I know everything about it). But the difference will still be a slight one. However, the issue is that Emma looks too young for her age, despite that she will turn 27 this April (which is also the month that Evans has his birthday). So her looks alone marks the difference between them. But I've ranted enough about my thoughts about it, so I won't repeat myself.

No, they really don't deserve it. This is homophobia. Sure, homophobia is par for the course in countries like Russia and states like Alabama, but no. No, this movie shouldn't be boycotted or pulled from theatres because it features a gay character.

If the script didn't say LeFou is gay to Josh Gad, why did he play him so effeminately? I don't know if he is gay or not! Did the director just put in a "gay moment" but not a gay character? That doesn't make it a gay moment then!

I want to talk seriously with you. Children seeing two people of the same sex do something as romantic as a kiss or a dance is just as ok as them seeing two people of opposite sexes kissing or dancing or anything romantic like that. If you believe that's not true because you're Christian or some other religion, fine, that's your beliefs. But that doesn't mean you're right. It's just what you believe in and what you think is right.

Oh good, I'm glad we agree so much! I agree a lot with what you said, except that I feel Belle's dress could look that way just because she lived in an enchanted castle. That or, I dunno, some tailor or seamstress just sought to make a dress that didn't look that much like other dresses of the time, lol. So, just personally wondering, what do you think is the best Disney dress? Do you even like Cinderella's ball one?

Particularly if it comes from a place of hating it because it hews too closely to the original. That's not exactly a problem Disney's other re-makes have had, and mostly to their detriment, imo. I'll be happy if it's close in most respects to the original.
