While most of us always knew that the reason Frozen was shelved when it was meant to be a hand-drawn feature was because of the underperformance of
The Princess and the Frog, some actually believed it was because of "story problems". I guess this finally settles it.

The thing I know about history is, we mainly get the winners' version of how everything happened. That becomes the embossed and validated recitation of events. Except many times, it's not completely accurate. Frozen wasn't this unbroken march from development to release. John Lasseter always liked it, but Chris Buck had barely got the story up on reels when the Top Dogs across Riverside Drive put the project in a closet and locked it away.

Shame they never gave The Snow Queen as hand drawn a chance. But I guess in the long run they would lose the 3D ticket sales.

Or all white casts, or I suppose they're supposed to be all Japanese casts, but they certainly don't look Japanese. Or random stuff happening for no reason. I really think he's a bit overrated.
I think one reason is because Japan is such a homogeneous nation, while America has more diversity, and more people willing to speak out against inequality.
But if The Wind Rises were to win the Oscar, I don't think anyone would care in the states. Unless TWR, as
DisneyEra said, were to make as much as Frozen has domestically

Do we have to go there again? Look Soitiris, I don't know how many times you keep posting bad news about hand drawn, but where's the good news?

I mean, I know we won't see any new hand drawn animated features for a while, but there still doing hand drawn shorts so that will prove that hand drawn is not dead. And Disney hand drawn animation will return. You'll see.

In fact, Disney is not required to do hand drawn movies. Even Walt Disney himself said that he wanted to experiment with computer animation or whatever. Above all, why are people complaining that Disney is not 2D while they’re not whining about other animation studios? What about Dreamworks? (I heard that they’re doing a part 2D movie though) What about Fox? What Universal? If you’re going to whine about Disney not doing 2D, you should complain to other studios too about not doing hand-drawn. I’m sick of people whining about this.
If Disney A. Studios is going to do more 2D movies and stop being paranoid about it, whoope-doo. Drinks are on the house.
For now, they're not ok? It’s 2014. Everyone is doing 3D movies. Including Disney. Enjoy the movies for what it is, NOT THE ANIMATION
I agree with you, but at the same time, isn't this a tad harsh ? Just the way it was delivered ?
Alot of people treasure 2D animation because we grew up with it, we don't want to see the drawing style just die just because 3D Dreamworks comedies are the 'in thing', it's upsetting and frustrating to see a drawing style we all love and treasure, just slowly get closer and closer to the graveyard each year, and Disney believe more and more that 2D animation is just a thing of the past.
Yes Walt did want to move on and be with the future, but I believe that if he was alive today, he wouldn't just reject lovers of the original style, and not everybody is doing 3D, alot of non- American animation companies still do 2D.
Yeah, 3D animation shouldn't be treated like this horrible thing anymore, because Tangled and Frozen proves that, even if it's 3D animated, it can still be beautiful, emotional, and lovable.

I agree withe Little Ursula.
Basically it's wrong to say "2D is dead/whatever", it's still precious to many people. And, in comparison, some 2D films stand out due to their peculiar style (something not many 3D films can achieve). The Secret of Kells and Persepolis are two recent animated films that have such unique non-Disney styles that it makes them stand out.

Because people and kids are stupid. They always treated hand drawn as a lost art (except for TV), and it's not cool. Stupid little boys hate The Princess and the Frog and ignoring Winnie The Pooh is a travesty! I don't think Disney or any other famous studios is not trying hard enough. I bet those evil satanic greedy executives forced John Lasseter to shy away from making 2D hand drawn animated feature. And I bet this song is their favorite.

I posted this in the Frozen thread but the five films that got nominated for Best Animated Feature were Frozen, Ernest and Celestine, The Croods, Despicable Me 2, and The Wind Rises. EaC and TWR are both hand drawn films, so optimistically speaking, there's a 40% chance of hand drawn animation winning at the Oscars.

I just hope the new CEO of Disney will let John Lasseter to do hand drawn animation and maybe fire those greedy satanic executives. And hopefully Sotiris will give us good news about hand drawn.

So, Frozen got revived because of Tangled's success?

Kind of hard when you see stuff on you Facebook feed from a certain well known artist about things like new employees behaviors(made with an air of "I know better", employment practices, layoffs, stifling of creativity(the last two are likely candidates for the most recent piece) John Lasseter being a monster, and a holiday greetings with execs tied to a christmas tree about to be lit on fire.
All my heroes are dead.

Well then, someone please close this thread before we go insane.
Not the whole discussion forum, but this thread needs to be closed.
Walmart need to be closed so I don't get fat.
They should stop selling cars so I don't get into an accident.
That's how ridiculous you sound. Don't like it, don't read/post in it, its as simple as that. You went insane long before this thread was created.

Well, said, disneyprincess11.
Plus, not all 2D things are good. For example: there are some really bad 2D animated TV shows on these days.

TsWade2, if reading news stories is causing you to have a mental breakdown, the best choice would be to stop reading.
Even so, I bet it would actually be fun to see your reaction to real news stories like polar ice melting, coral destruction, global warming, natural disasters, etc.

I had a friend like that. He constantly had heart palpitations and insomnia.
