I wonder if he is referring to a Fantasia Blu-ray that will be released in France.

I just find it all a bit odd that these shorts weren't included in the press release. Something tells me that their facts aren't straight and that these shorts won't be on the release.

That's what i'm afraid of as well. Why refer to Destino and not the others?

Anybody else notice the advertisements inside the Beauty and the Beast blu-ray said October 26 for the Fantasia release date? Has the date been moved up or was that a mistake?

It was a mistake. One can assume that this was the original intended release date but it was later changed to 11/30.

I honestly hope they'll be on the release.

Destino was only mentioned because the others were already publicly available.

I'm pretty sure that Lorenzo hasn't been released in it's entirety yet.

I saw Lorenzo in its entirety with full beginning and end credits at the Walt Disney Studios
at a D23 event in May honoring Roy Disney. It was shown before Fantasia 2000 and Don Hahn presented it first. It was very funny! I am hoping it will be on the blu-ray even though it was not in the press release.

Okay, it hasn't been shown in it's entirety to the general public. I'm just hoping that we get to see all four shorts on the Blu-ray. The only one I have is The Little Matchgirl, and I've only seen One By One and Destino one or two times.

Lorenzo was released theatrically with the Kate Hudson/John Corbett romcom Raising Helen. Odd choice for a pairing up. And I'm speaking both of Lorenzo with Raising Helen and Kate Hudson with John Corbett.

HMV.com has updated their Product Image, and it contains the 'Classics No.3' on the spine of the slipcase

I think some people are missing something important here: The fact that Albert has found BBFC certified picture galleries means that its likely* that the Fantasia release will contain content not on the Press Release everyone got so worked up over. This combined with recent statements about the other shorts makes me believe the Fantasia release will be more comprehensive than the Press Release details.

As I said at the time: There's no Disney Blu-ray beyond the first couple of release waves that doesn't port across at least 50% of the "classic DVD" Bonus features. It's just not their Blu-ray strategy to leave that stuff off. Disney more than any other studio is pushing Blu-ray for growth. They know its important in keep older stuff on disc.

As to the gallery being smaller than the previous DVD release, again, I'd like to wait until I have the release in my hand before getting worked up. Perhaps the BBFC only certified images with audio descriptions - as far as I'm aware there's no legal requirement for static, silent images to be certified. Until quite recently, there was no legal requirements for audio commentary tracks to be certified!

Regardless of how the Fantasia double pack turns out, it's still far from a rip-off. For the price of an average single Blu-ray, I've been able to order the duel pack containing:

- 2 films, newly restored (not exactly cheap for Disney to do, and including for the first time a true lossless soundtrack - important for movies classed as "musical features", yes?)
- 2 New commentary tracks
- Destino (in HD) and a full length documentary on Disney and Dali (in HD, I assume)
- A couple of other new supplements which may or may not be worthwhile
- Possibly some "classic DVD" bonus features on disc, if not at least they'll all be available via streaming with BD Live

and possibly given recent hints:

- HD still-galleries
- Other music based shorts (in HD, again I assume)

Hardly the rip-off of the century no matter how you look at it.

* Note: Occasionally stuff is passed by the BBFC which is not included on the final release.

Look at Beauty and The Beast - it even has its own 'Map' in the case to navigate the menus of the extra features, and these themselves were all outlined on the web-site and press-release. Compare this with the Fantasia details, and one has to ask in such a case; "Why would they provide all this information for B&TB, and not Fantasia?"

Whats more, you shouldn't forget Disney B.D Live. This is completely exclusive to the U.S unless anyone abroad resorts to region-hacking. Disney could surely allow this function to be accessed world-wide, so why haven't they? On this format, they supposedly allow users to access 'Classic DVD Content' like on the upcoming Fantasia release. What about everyone outside the U.S? Were screwed - it really is that simple.

A 15 minute documentary on the effects (which to me is the stand-out feature) and another short documentary on the Disney Family Museum which has nothing to do with the production of the film are the only solid features. Picture Galleries, 'Disney View', 16:9 expand - these are all things available on most Disney releases anyway. Its just padding.

The Toy Story Blu-ray press releases didn't mention any classic DVD Bonus features, though. There is a precedent.

Disney obviously intend to launch it outside the US at some point. UK Discs have BD-Live hooks built-in already. It could easily be launched in the UK before the end of this year. All the other major studios have managed it - so it's not an insurmountable problem for Disney to solve.

But likewise, they could include both 50 minutes making of's from the DVDs on the disc or more. I know some stuff is coming to BD-Live via streaming, but it doesn't mean the totality of the "classic DVD" supplements will be streaming only. Let's face it, it wouldn't be the first time something has been left of a Disney press release would it?

You're not missing out on anything worthwhile with BD-Live. It's just ads now. Actually, you have to re-download them after exiting the server even. at least the first BD-Live server actually *tries* to do something meaningful with the format. Of course, it's mostly trivia and community screenings so it's not really succesful.

I have a feeling that Disney is going to bundle up The Rescuers and it's sequel just like they did with the Fantasias if they ever release them on Hi-Def. That would really suck.
