Atlantica - if you think the lanterns made the 3d worth it, I think you'll find the snow and ice make it worth it here. There's definitely some good use of it. I'm not a huge 3d fan and repeat viewings will be in 2d, but I'm glad I saw it in 3d the once.

I usually see the movie in 2D and then buy it in 3D if I like it. That way if I didn't like the movie, I didn't pay that extra fee (although I'm using the free movie ticket I got from buying The Little Mermaid Blu-ray, the same applies). No amount of 3D will make a bad movie good, it merely enhances or detracts from whats already there. That said, this movie looks interesting. I'm hearing a lot of bold claims from reviewers, but it wouldn't be the first time, so cautiously optimistic.

Have my ticket for the 8:25 3D showing tonight.

Damn! This is the best rated Disney film since Beauty and the Beast.

I love the soundtrack! I especially love some of the score pieces so far: "The Trolls" and "Coronation Day" are my favorites. I can't wait to see it even more now...

The tomato thing has fallen to 87%.
My guess for the tomato thing is about 80%.

I expect it to rise again. Tangled is at 90%, and that's about where I expect Frozen to land, maybe a point or two higher still.

On another note, this is my first time in any way tracking reviews for an animated film, and I have to ask of anyone who has more experience with these things: are film-critic reviews of animated films usually so relentlessly political?

Because it strikes me that many, perhaps most of the reviews of Frozen, positive and negative alike, have been extremely, obsessively political/ideological in nature, scrutinizing above all the degree to which the female leads are good "role models," and if so, how.

I mean, action films are often pretty overtly political, and usually the critics only mention such aspects in passing, almost as an afterthought, if they note it at all -- even in Christopher Nolan and Zach Synder films, where the ideology isn't hidden.

But there has hardly been a review I've come across that hasn't, for example, taken a swipe at past Disney films on ideological grounds, and many of these measure the worth of Frozen by the degree to which it departs from traditions in this genre.

It's as if these critics were, twenty years ago, what the social-justice armchair warriors on tumblr are today.

I'm just wondering if this kind of ideological scrutiny is customary for animated films, or if this movie has uniquely attracted focus in this regard.

This is why the hardest characters to create these days are Females.

You can create males, animals, aliens.. It's ok. If you fail, you fail.

But if you create a female and you fail... The world takes a huge dump on you.

Shame really.

All of the Catching Fire reviews I've seen also tackle the politics of Katniss being a strong female role model, so I'm pretty sure that that kind of thing is just unavoidable for movies that star women. Yes, it's so primitive to bring that sort of thing up in reviews every time a female character *GASP* is strong and deep, but then again, the movie industry still seems to be convinced that well-written female characters don't sell (which is a stupid statement to begin with) and therefore should be a rarity. Not only that, but many seem to be convinced that a good female character MUST be a good role model as well, or else they're "bad characters". If that mindset continues, people will still continue to overreact to female characters.

It sucks, but there's little one can do about it.

Still 95% for top critics. I expect either that to fall or the main score to rise (most likely, a little of both). Usually top critics is lower for mainstream films (not always the case I know).

I'm already satisfied with the reviews though. A lot of the positive reviews are RAVES so I know I'll like it as a Disney fan. Not everyone reviewing it is as receptive to Disney movies as we are

Listening to the soundtrack. Overall it's a nudge above Tangled (not by much). But then I found Tangled very underrated.

The song that irks me most is Fixer-Upper.... it's disposable like the second half of TPatF's songs. It's also the most Book of Mormon-ish song. It sounds incredibly similar. It's not bad, it's just awkwardly placed I guess.

For the First Time in Forever and Do You Want To Build A Snowman stand out. The former sounds VERY Alan Menken.
