I do agree that they should make some sort of official statement, especially considering more than two years will have passed since the release of Pooh, thus contradicting Lasseter's original mission statement for what to do with hand-drawn animation. Of course, I also get the feeling he really wants to do a new hand-drawn animated feature (you can't look at his background and say he doesn't like the medium), but he only has so much power.

But, as I said, I do think Frozen's massive success will have a considerable impact on how Disney Animation will be treated by the higher-ups.

If there's going to be another annual shareholder meeting, I like to see someone confront Bob Iger about no Hand Drawn Animation and people will boo at him like people booed at Michael Eisner during Disneyland 50th Anniversary ceremony.

Man, this is so upsetting that Disney is ignoring 2D hand drawn animation (exception for hand drawn shorts). Disney forgot the respects of traditional animation and Walt Disney will be very disappointed. This is have nothing to do with Michael Eisner, just in case you are wondering. And you know what, that Spongebob Squarepants movie sequel will go ahead and take Disney's money for all I care. That would be Disney's punishment.

Yes, indeed!
I think they think that hand-drawn animation doesn't bring money to the table any more.
I say, get a good story* (eg. Swan lake) + exceptional hand-drawn animation like the classics (eg. Bambi) + great score and songs (think of Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback etc.) and there you go, it would be a success!!


*and why not, even a serious story, a historic event or something: eg. Civil War, Holocaust etc.. (eg. look at how "Grave of the fireflies" has remained in film history!)

I am SICK of people, complaining about *this*, not be 2D and *that* not being 2D. It’s NOT, ok?!

In fact, Disney is not required to do hand drawn movies. Even Walt Disney himself said that he wanted to experiment with computer animation or whatever. Above all, why are people complaining that Disney is not 2D while they’re not whining about other animation studios? What about Dreamworks? (I heard that they’re doing a part 2D movie though) What about Fox? What Universal? If you’re going to whine about Disney not doing 2D, you should complain to other studios too about not doing hand-drawn. I’m sick of people whining about this.

If Disney A. Studios is going to do more 2D movies and stop being paranoid about it, whoope-doo. Drinks are on the house.

For now, they're not ok? It’s 2014. Everyone is doing 3D movies. Including Disney. Enjoy the movies for what it is, NOT THE ANIMATION

Forgive me that I want to see some artistic quality in the animation movies I see!

Everyone listens to Justin Bieper. What does that mean? that his songs are good, and have artistic quality and will remain in history?

yes, it's 2014 and you know what?
Ghibli animation studios are giving some exceptional animation films, with incredible aesthetics and visual style.
Even those that don't have a very strong story, are a feast for the eyes and have a magic that I personally can't see or find in 3d.
If i compared Arriety or Ponyo with Frozen and Tangled , is like comparing a Beethoven Symphony with a Rihanna song in their compositional value.
That's how I feel..

Also we're "whining" mostly about Disney because it did exceptional work for so many years now with so many masterpieces and we have something to compare with.

I can't help it. I miss when Disney use to do hand drawn animated features. I'm just sick and tired that everybody keep saying hand drawn is dead. It's irritating!

More like every single American animation company.

It's very funny considering Japan has several animated films coming this year, none of them (as far as I know) CG. Makes me wonder.

Although I haven't seen it yet, I REALLY hope the new Miyazaki film wins the Oscar this year (I was very impressed by the trailer), and maybe then some American companies would give a second thought again on hand-drawn animation and not totally dismiss it..

The Wind Rises winning the Oscar will NOT get other companies to try 2D animation. Now, after it's Feb. 2014 american release, if it grosses over $150-200mil at the domestic Boxoffice, THAT will get other companies to take notice!

I haven't seen Wind Rises, but I've seen several other Miyazaki films. They're entertaining and pretty, but I've always wondered why his movies get a 'pass' on things that Disney often get blasted for. Like characters looking the same. Or boring Mary Sue characters. Or all white casts, or I suppose they're supposed to be all Japanese casts, but they certainly don't look Japanese. Or random stuff happening for no reason. I really think he's a bit overrated.
