As a whole, I like that soundtrack enough  As for the songs of Frozen Fever and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, it is a decent, solid, respectful follow-up to the first movie, but this time it is linked to some real drama (that the shorts didn’t have). It just doesn’t reach the same level as the songs of the first movie, but the first movie did SO, SO well... and the songs were so emotionally clever... should we be surprised by that?.. (at least they are frank enough to recognize they didn’t try to recreate the first film.)

Nonetheless, in the case of this soundtrack, I believe we should all give a second judgment after watching the movie, for as the cast and the artists from the movie said it, some songs find their whole meaning once considered within the context of the scene. I think it is especially true with this movie, more than for the first one. With the first movie, I could see what was visually happening for each song before I got the chance to watch it.
I’m particularly intrigued by what “Lost in the Woods” will look like in the movie, for I’m okay to say it’s one of the most beautiful songs from the soundtrack and already one of my favorites, but everybody agreed to say it was one of the funniest things in this sequel: well I really didn’t feel it that way, I felt so much melancholy. Probably the visuals will rearrange it completely. Idk, I’m guessing all of the reindeers might form a fucking ballet around him while he’s singing! ^^ ...carrying him away through the woods... We’ll find out soon ^^’

Did anyone read Forest of Shadows? Would you reccomend it? I'm considering it to pass the time until Frozen 2 premieres here (in January...)

While I appreciate the intense emotion and Kristen's strong performance (it reminded me of Hathaway's performance of I Dreamed a Dream), the song needed more focus in terms of structure - it was all over the place - and a better melody.
I agree that it's not a 'song-song' like the rest, but I enjoy it a lot and think it's a standout. Not only is Kristen Bell an amazing singer who doesn't get enough credit for her talents (I mean, is there anything this woman can't do? She's a great singer, amazing actress and has a great and funny personality), you can really hear the emotions and you believe it. Reminds me of her days in Veronica Mars where she did an emotional scene.

To me I highly adored all the songs equally, so doing a ranking was pretty difficult but here it is. The last one wasn't hard considering how short it is. :P

1. Show Yourself
2. The Next Right Thing
3. Into the Unknown
4. All is Found
5. Some Things Never Change
6. Lost in the Woods
7. When I Am Older
8. Reindeers are Better than People

1. "Into the Unknown"
2. "Some Things Never Change" ~ Kristoff's part and the ending are the highlights.
3. "Into the Unknown" (Panic! At the Disco) ~ Not everything I was hoping, but I love the ending.
4. "Lost in the Woods"
5. "Show Yourself"
6. "All Is Found" (Kacey Musgraves) ~ I know I placed them right beside each other, but the end credits version is so much more forlorn than the in-film version. I love both versions equally, but in different ways.
7. "The Next Right Thing"
8. "All Is Found"
9. "Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People"
10. "When I’m Older"
11. "Lost in the Woods" (Weezer)

I was quite serious indeed.

^^

I don’t know how much you know about the story but apparently around that moment in the movie Kristoff doesn’t have too many characters to sing to?... except maybe (his?) army of reindeers. So God knows what insanity those guys would get involved in while they’re alone in the woods without anybody to watch... I don’t mean the reindeers will literally be dancing around him, but they could re-arrange around him (graciously) forming figures like in a ballet.. Or I don’t know there are some chorus in that song, so... Idk, I feel somehow it’s going to get closer connected to the reindeers ^^ ... like with so many reindeers in a movie something’s going to happen with Kristoff. That’s my guess.

Btw, there is definitively a Broadway vibe to Josh Gad’s When I’m Older I’m actually fond of.

One thing the Sequels do have in common: the critics adored them.

Well so far, both sequels have critical ratings that aren't as high as those of their predecessors.

Well, to give my final thoughts on all the recent updates: I like the new Imax posters and the full sequence of Into the Unknown, though it was pretty much as expected (though DisneyVevo will most likely upload the whole sequence soon, since Disney is obviously marketing this ballad as the next Let it Go). I liked the scene with Olaf and Anna, which pretty much had a breezy summer feel to it in a Fall setting. However, the soundtrack was a dissapointment. It wasn't bad by any means, but it never was as outstanding as I hoped it would be. Since this movie was the first post-Lasseter musical, I hoped that it could've been great (obviously these songs are more influenced in pop than in Broadway). But I could type my own personal opinions on them. I'm surprised that the end credits for Into the Unknown was pretty akin to it's counterpart.

All Is Found
An haunting and mellow, yet pleasant song. The guitar makes it sound almost like a Joni Mitchell-esque folk song or a singer/songwriter song in general. Evan Rachel Woods' singing chops are surprisingly adequate. The orchestration and arrangements lifts the song up at it's end.

Some Things Never Change
Somewhat dissapointing for a song that most likely will be a introductory sequence to the village life on Arandelle. Sounds like it could've come from a kindergarden show or a DC show rather than from Frozen. Though the last part of the song is superior to it's beginning.

Into the Unknown
The best song on the movie and for every reason. It seems like the Lopezes used most of their creativity on that song and dismissed the other ones.

When I Am Older
Not a bad melody, but the arrangements are jarring and makes the song more blatantly juvenile and awkward than it needs to be.

Lost in the Woods
Not a bad song, but sounds too much of an 80's power ballad than something that would belong in a Disney Princess movie.

Show Yourself
The second best song in the movie, but is unfortunately hampered by being superior on it's last half than it's first half. It still doesn't reaches it's full potential, but still a powerful and mesmerizing ballad. Aurora's chants lifts the song up.

The Next Right Thing
Surprisingly haunting and heart-tugging, but suffers from a weak and forgettable melody.

Otherwise, the rest of the score is just as meh. I liked Introduction, Reindeer Circle and Epilogue, which truly shows how good the score could've been. I also liked the Saami chants on Iduna's Scarf, which truly brings some authenticity to the chants. Perhaps we'll hear the better parts of the score that wasn't included on the soundtrack on the movie itself when it actually premieres.

She looks so pretty with her hair down and her white dress. She looks almost angelic, especially on Nokk.

Yeah, but but the comparisons and hate towards the Lady Amalthea are gonna be insufferable. Her now sporting long hair and wearing a purple gown won't help.
