Thanks guys!

I knew I should have shaded her in.
And that sketch in the link was gorgeous! Made me realize I need to change the bottom of her dress as well as a few other things (I hadn't originally planned on drawing the whole figure and was too lazy to look for more references).

Ok, I got up wayyy too early this morning so I had time to work on her a little more . . .
Besides changing the bottom of her dress, I resized it a little and redid most of her face, hopefully it looks more like her now.
Oh, and shaded her in a little too just for the heck of it.

I'm anxious to actually start coloring her, but I really need to set her aside for now. I'll post her when I'm all done though . . . hope you guys enjoy the extended WIP.

That is beautiful enigmawing!
And I missed the whole racially driven conversation, but I will only say this...its unfortunate that her race is a focal point. Not just saying here, but everywhere. How Disney was pressured to change her name and not make her a maid. Disney has had to spend so much time on not wanting to piss someone off that I am afraid the story may suffer for it. I hope not, but how many changes have they had to make in hopes people don't call it racist. Believe me, some people will still find something to complain about and accuse it of being racist. And that is pathetic and sad. I really wonder if Disney will ever try and make a black princess again after all the stupidity by all these civil rights people and groups who can't just let Disney do what it does best...tell a story.

It's awfully good. It looks like it's official rather than fan-made. I love it! Do remember to post the finished version when you are done

It would be nice if you could make another drawing of Tiana in her blue dress as well.

I don't know how I feel about her green dress. I mean, I like it, I think it's cute, but I don't know about it being her main dress. I just feel that for the main dress she should have something a little more... royal looking? Just so that it doesn't seem so out of place among the other princesses. I mean, Ariel doesn't have a shell dress, Belle doesn't have a book dress, Snow doesn't have a well/dwarf dress... etc, etc. So I'm not sure if she should have her leaf dress be the main one.
I dunno, maybe it's just me?

I see your point. I really like the green dress though, it looks beautiful on her and it would be something different for the whole princess line. No t that I really care, I guess, because I don't really care all that much about the Disney Princess' outside of their respective film.

I hate to bring this thread off-topic once more, but I promise it will be the last time. There are some things that I didn't get to say because of my internet connection being broken yesterday, so I'll say them nw, briefly:
BelleGirl wrote:In my innocense I always thought that that 'M' word meant nothing more than mixture of black and white parentage. I guess "mestizo" (offspring of Spaniard and American Indian) must also be regarded as offensive.
I think the Dutch equivalent of the term is 'halfbloedje' (= 'half-blood'). Which is a term that's regularly used in my family, by both my grandmother and my parents, who were raised on this term and see absolutely no harm in it. Because it was deemed acceptable when they grew up. But that doesn't mean it wasn't racist at the time. I explained my mother the other day: the term literally says that the person you are describing with this term, is of 'half blood', meaning only half 'real', half of 'value' (the half of the blood that's from the white parent, of course).
Wonderlicious wrote:Let me give everyone a little exposé on the topic of that article's providers...
Thank you so much for this post. Very enlightening. Yes, that front page with the immigrants says it all. The way you describe it, 'The Daily Mail' is the British equivalent of 'The New York Post'; would that be a correct assessment?
Flanger-Hanger wrote:Personally I think an Aquamarine girl and an Orange boy would far better represent acceptance of colour, but that's just one man's opinion.
Interestingly, that *was* the train of thought behind
Doug, which was later owned by Disney.

I dunno I think her dress is very unique, gives the disney pricness line some green besides Areil's tail, and it's just different than her generic blue one.
Either way I don't care, I just like the color green.

I always thought it meant you've got the half of two different races in you, so the half of one blood and another half.
Of course your explanation may be correct. I just think it's really not used any more in that way. 'Halfbloed' is not meant as being racist anymore, I think.

I'm following this discussion a while, and I don't think the Dutch word is 'half-blood', but it's simply "mulat", een persoon geboren uit een blanke en een zwarte ouder, a person born from a white and a black parent.
Anyway.
I think I agree about the flower dress and the flower costume of the prince, that they are from after they were frogs and not before.
I think the blue one is the most important one. I really like it, I think it's totally different than the one from Cinderella. Cinderellas dress is more 'poofy', and Tianas dress is more fitting to her body, if you understand what I mean.

And Aurora's dress? That looks fitting to her body.

I think it is. Actually, the two other main tabloids in the UK (the Sun and the Mirror) are quite sensationalist. The Daily Mail tends to be appear less sensationalist, which makes the situation more worrying as naturally people could end up taking it more seriously.

That is a very nice drawing EnigmaWing. It's very beautiful
For her dress, I think it does relate to her too much as being related to frogs, the design is pretty though. I do like the green of it a lot, it is different from the normal pink and blue kinda deal. Like on Belle or Snow White, I would have never thought a yellow dress would look nice and they're both very different. Eh either way what ever dress they use when they include her in that Princess line I think it will work alongside the others.
As for the whole race issue, no matter what people are going to find something wrong with it, while others will love it. I remember seeing a youtube video where the woman was complaining about her look and that she looked like a stereotypical black woman with exagerrated features. I don't know, I never really thought there was a stereotypical look for a black woman, either way I think Tiana's character design is beautiful. But you know what they say, you can't win em' all. I just hope this will be a good film and that people will enjoy it for what it is with out some sort of controversy. The way I see the characters in this film are just people, it doesn't matter if their African American and thats not what the film is about, sure it is nice to finally have an African American Princess but in the end their just people, just like all the other characters in most Disney films. So I hope people won't only focus attention on that and find something negative to make out of it and miss out on all the positive aspects.

I like it too! I can understand why they didn't opt for a more traditional dress though. From what we know about PatF, Tiana spends most of the movie as a frog so they probably wanted to make her more recognizable. That way when people see her in that lily-pad dress they'll associate lily-pads with frogs. Just my guess.
Besides, blue is overplayed, it's everywhere. Green will make her stand out.
And once again: great work, enigmawing! I'm glad to see you're not a white supremacist anymore

Willy, you're right, the Dutch word is 'mulat'. Makes me question if Goliaht is really right in thinking that the word was intended to be demeaning.
Anyway, the discussion has lasted long enough now. (Just look up the word in your dictionary, my last suggestion).
Tiana's green dress is a nice touch. After all, we had white, pink, blue and yellow dresses already.
