I just read an article and AGAIN they said the movie is based in the mediterranean as a whole and not spain
Why are they so afraid of saying Spain GOD
The kingdom has a spanish name, spanish name king and queen, the civilians either have spanish or Arabic names (normal in the Al Andalus) the architecture and clothes are all based in that period of time in Spain and the island is near the iberian peninsula
Like why they want to pretend the island could be greek or tunisian when it’s very obviously Spain
also Asha ñame is based in Axa from Federico García Lorca ‘’las tres moritas de Jaén’’ in the spanish dub they even pronounce it Asa instead of Asha

Oh, so that's why it's pronounced like that in the Spanish dub? But shouldn't it be pronounced "acsa" if it's written Axa or is it an old way of pronouncing it? By the way, on
Wikipedia it says it's a name of Hebrew origin.

I don’t know honestly but I guess in old spanish it’s pronounced Asa
X in old spanish is J so it would be Aja, or maybe Acha, or Acsa as you said
Anyways the thing is that Asha name is based in spain like everything and I’m tired of them saying Mediterranean
It would be like them making Raya 99% filipino and then saying SEAsia (just an example, Raya was actually many different countries)

Two new book covers:

Source: https://www.amazon.fr/WISH-ASHA-BONNE-% ... ef=sr_1_14
The latter shows Gabo holding a pile of dirty pots and pans. Could he be working in the royal kitchen as well?
Safi is featured holding a basket of eggs and Hal some honey pots again. I wonder if they supply the castle with goods. Maybe all the Teens work for the king in some capacity.

I know some things were pronounced differently in the past, so maybe you're right it was pronounced Asa. The article you mention is the one below, right? It's strange they don't want to name Spain there when it has already been confirmed the kingdom of Rosas is located just off the Iberian Peninsula. Anyway, like you said, it's clear from the names and influences that's where it's set.
Where and when exactly is Wish set? Chris Buck explains that just as the Frozen films are inspired by Norway, Wish is inspired by the islands of the Mediterranean Sea. “We’re not saying it’s that actual area, but we do look to those regions for some of the coloring, what cultures would’ve been there. And this takes place between 1200 and 1300.”
Fawn Veerasunthorn adds, “For our story, we wanted to create Rosas as a destination, a place people go to. In the Mediterranean Sea, that’s kind of where all the cultures converged, historically. We worked with our culture consultant to make sure that this could happen.”
“There was cultures coming from all around the world at a certain time. And then knowing Magnifico built this kingdom not knowing if they’d come. And people came because they believed in his vision. And so, it gave us an opportunity to connect people from all around the world,” Jennifer Lee reveals.

Is the Grumpy kid supposed to be a dwarf or just a very short teen??
I think he's just a very short teen, but maybe it's a bit of a nod to the seven dwarfs. Speaking of that, I never thought much about it, but there was actually a disabled character among the original seven dwarfs; Dopey. It has been confirmed the teen inspired by him does talk, so perhaps that's why they gave Dhalia a disability instead, so people wouldn't complain about him being able to talk.

By “a Peep Show version of Wish”, I meant a version of the movie where each shot is from a different character’s POV and you can hear each character’s thoughts through a voiceover, but with none of the adult stuff from the show in it. But I guess I’d actually be happy enough with Asha and Dahlia calling each other “The El Dude Sisters” and doing the “ehhh” thing that the main two characters do in Peep Show. That’d be really funny. On a side note, I think Jennifer Lee talked about the importance of Wish being a “teen girl story”, so although it’s for kids there’s also that element of it.
I forgot to reply to your comment. What I meant is that that way of shooting might be a bit confusing for children, but I've now seen a clip from the show and I see it's not that complicated to understand what's going on. It's quite an original idea. Disney films are not that experimental, though, so I don't see them making a full film like that, but I could see them doing a scene, for example, in that style. That could be fun.

I literally just noticed that there’s a line of wooden mugs behind Dahlia in the part of the trailer where Asha says she thinks her mouth is drooping and each one has the first letter of each Teen’s name on it. Does anyone think this means anything?
I noticed that too. Maybe her friends tend to visit Dahlia at the castle, or come to provide the kitchen with goods, as I've speculated based on the new book cover, and she has custom mugs for them to invite them to drink.

I feel like 1200 is earlier than pretty much all of the Disney canon. That certainly lends credence to the idea that this is the origin story of the same Wishing Star that appears in Peter Pan, Pinocchio, etc. in some plane where all the Disney movies exist in the same universe.

Moana is based before the volcanic creation of the island of Hawaii.
And it's normal Wish is based in the 1200 and 1300, it's the Al Andalus period of time (it was almost 800 years, but it ended at 1400, so they decided something in the middle)

I wonder when they'll announce the soundtrack and when it's coming out. I remember reading somewhere that the studio wants to release it early, so that when it comes to the Oscars, they will avoid another Encanto situation. Where one song gets the awards consideration attention while ignoring the other songs.

Vailskibum!

My favorite YouTube channel since I was Grade 2! I actually said and posted the same thing here in this forum, with the 4K edit of the trailer being what it will really look like and the Disney renderer’s tweet about it. It brought back my hype just a bit for this movie which is nice.

Per Cryptic HD Quality, we have more Wish stuff coming on Monday for the day of #Disney100:
https://x.com/Cryptic4KQual/status/1711 ... 94062?s=20.
My hope is tickets for Wish going on sale since starting on the day of Disney's 100th Anniversary, the film it was made to celebrate, will boost it in presales.
And maybe we get a third and final trailer too, if Disney markets Wish like they did the first Frozen back 10 years ago when they dropped the final trailer between 2.5 to 3.5 weeks after the second and at least a month before release.

The fact that King Magnifico begins as a decent but highly questionable person, into an absolute paranoid monster who Queen Amaya sees as beyond saving is cool to see in a Disney film. The Queen deciding to help Asha and her friends defeat him for he no longer does what's right for the people of Rosas is an interesting way to go with this story. Plus, his defeat/death of being dissolved into the staff reminds me a lot of the way Jafar was defeated. Thank goodness he doesn't turn into a dragon or a giant monster or something that leads to a giant Disney reference that would've been distracting and goofy. Though Magnifico using his staff to cast a very dark cloud upon the kingdom does give me Maleficent vibes and I actually love that.

Thanks for posting.
I have to keep reminding myself
that this is a children's storybook and therefore a very simplistic telling, but the story as presented is very underwhelming to me, with what seems a very generic moral/resolution in the same vein as "you had a power in yourself all along" that's been done countless times before. We'll see how the actual movie expands on all this, because right now it's all very meh.

The story looks fine, it's just a kids book so leaves a ton of info but overall the story seems fine
The movie can be really good like Tangled or Moana (I dislike the frozen movies and Encanto, Raya was fine it was okay)

The plot of the movie is exactly as we predicted. Yawn. Given the visuals are also underwhelming, the film's success will probably rest on the songs.

ANYWAY, moving on from Sotiris’s constant negativity…
Heads up, guys.
Looks like tickets for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ #Wish go on sale Monday, October 16 for the day of the #Disney100 Anniversary, just as I hoped and pleaded with Bob Iger to make happen:
https://x.com/cryptic4kqual/status/1711 ... 30266?s=46.
Thank god for that.
Glad Disney’s at least getting the message read to market #Wish hard. And for good reason as I have been told that the presales of tickets for #TheMarvels (which I got mine for in IMAX 3D on opening day at 4PM) are as bad as The Flash…
If that’s true, then YIKES.
Looks like, unlike Wish, The Marvels will need good word of mouth to save its ass at the box office in a month from now.
And people tell me I'm crazy for thinking the possibility of The Marvels flopping is true. Well, looks they were wrong to doubt me.
Now, we'll see if Wish can have the opposite fate of how The Marvels is faring.
I keep telling people that Disney should have put more effort and marketing into Wish.
But they never listen.
They NEVER listen.
I’m glad, after this movie's results of presales so far, at least Disney is listening to people like me when it comes to Wish maybe needing more effort put into its marketing and thank the lord they’re about to do just that w/ #Wish.

The deadline to submit songs to the Oscars is November 1; I doubt they'll release the soundtrack that early. Normally, it comes out a week or so before the film opens. I think what they meant by that is that they'll release some snippets, clips or featurettes about the songs, so they can see the audience reaction. Although, who knows, perhaps they'll do it differently this time. So far, we've only heard "This Wish"; I'm curious to listen to the other songs.

I’m also underwhelmed. And I admit that is really unfair since we’ve seen so little and the newest piece of the puzzle is just a storybook that I’m sure leaves out a lot.
Do we know if Sakina is Sabino’s daughter?
I think I’m most looking forward to Star. Its design is adorable.
How are we going to know that Star is *the* wishing Star from other Disney movies? Is the movie going to end with a Disney montage, ala Babylon? I hated that in Babylon, but a series of Disney images with the right orchestral score can make me weep.
Or will that stuff not be explained, and maybe the concept was cut from the movie?
