I know this is quite controversial, but this is still an inescapable aspect of this version, so here it goes;

Well, I don't think Stockholm Syndrome describes Belle in the original film, so I'm guessing it'll fit Belle here even less.

This is why Emma is perfect for the role. She researched Stockholm syndrome. Belle is supposed to be an intellectual. Emma embodies her.

I'm really curious and slightly anxious about this film's expanded backstory for Belle though. If the villagers are hostile towards Belle's intelectualism in particular it would make the film almost a political statement as parallels to what's happening in the world right now are inevitable.

It really does sound like a timely, relevant update of the original film instead of a bland remake.

Not at all! To quote Lindsay Ellis (a.k.a. former Nostalgia Chick); She comes around after he stops being a dick and when he let's her go, she leaves. Belle never even sucks up to the Beast prior to the wolf incident and stands up to him (after a while).

I feel like it has kinda just become the knee-jerk reaction to mention Stockholm Syndrome in relation to Belle's relationship with Beast, but I definitely think the situation is a lot more nuanced than that, and Belle has a lot more agency (and even power in the relationship) than many detractors give her credit for.

I won't say that the potrayals of all of the Disney princesses are issue-free or anything, especially when viewed from a modern perspective, but it has kinda become the easy thing to do, and perhaps even trendy thing, to criticize the princesses as passive and as bad role models. I think in doing so, though, a lot of people dismiss a lot of the positive qualities embodied by the characters.

I think Days in the Sun will be a highlight. And Emma actually sounds excellent in it. But, I'm worried that it's going to be mostly music, and not lyrics.

In the first video, I can't tell if that's Emma or a singing voice for Chip. The second video is definitely Evan (Recognized the voice from Moulin Rouge) and I don't know if the second voice is Cogsworth (Sounds pretty young) or another guy. The third video is obviously everyone and Emma towards the end, but I can't tell if that's Emma singing the whole time or if it's also Gugu, but I can make out Audra in it.

The first video definitely sounds like Chip. The song sounds beautiful from the snippet I've heard. Already I'm preferring this and Evermore over the previous Broadway songs.

You're welcome. The same happened to me. I can't get it out of my head either. The new songs are better than I expected. I think it was one of the film's producers who said that he thought this song could get an Oscar next year. From the short snippets we've heard, I think I will like Evermore more, but this one is also great.

I think the music at the beginning of the first snippet is not part of the song, if that's what you're referring to, but I could be wrong. By the way, thanks for those new links!

Here are some photos of an exhibition in the Canadian castle where the new songs were previewed:

I consider Days In The Sun to be just meh, to be honest. It's not downright awful, but it's not as captivating or exquisite to really capture my ears. Due to it being an obvious replacement for Human Again, why not having the latter in the film? Regardless of the various opinions surrounding Human Again, I do consider it to be a superior song and it deserved to be incorporated to the piece (which it initially was meant to be)

And regarding Emma Thompson's version of Beauty and the Beast; It's not as haunting as Angela Landsbury, but frankly I don't consider her voice to have any warmth at all in the song. She conveys it otherwise as Mrs. Potts, but not in that song, in my opinion. Emma has enough warmth and affability, so I think she does convey the warmth perfectly.

I think the Beast needs a name because I think a character as important as him should have one and I think that "Days in the Sun" is a great song and an acceptable replacement for "Human Again" and that "Beauty and the Beast" should be sung by a really great singer instead of just okay singers like I find Lansbury and Thompson to be, but Lansbury did indeed make it sound more moving.

The same book I found out there was a debutante ball with the prince in the beginning of the film has another thing in it that I wanted to post here. I can't post every page of the book because it would be too much, but this little snippet I find troubling and wonder what everyone else thinks about it, concerning one of our other favorite Disney characters:

I love it says that her blue costume makes her standout, when there are other people in the village wearing blue.
haha

Also, while I am not a huge fan of Cinderella and I haven't seen the movie in a while, correct me if I'm wrong... but I don't recall Cinderella ever wishing that she got married. And let's not forget that Ariel initially just wanted to live among humans. Eric was a catalyst to her decision..

Being important has nothing to do with it at all.

I really hope this adaptation does nothing to "improve" the original film in ways you've deemed it to be lacking. Repeating something I said in the TLM-LA thread: this film should not waste its time trying to please non-fans.

I didn't find it that troubling mainly because they've been saying this about the Disney Princesses for years now. How Ariel may have been more feminist than the early princesses but she was still deeply flawed and then Jasmine came about as Ariel 2.0 and was a regression from Belle because the filmmakers didn't want her to steal time away from Aladdin.

Same. His name has long been clashed over in the fandom so it would be nice to finally put an end to this debate that's been raging on since 1991. If they do give him a name, I hope it's not anything too stereotypical like Pierre or Francois. I'd prefer something like Joseph, Maxime, Tristan, Arnaud, or Lucien.
