Super Aurora, all I have to say is that noticing the difference in design and animation of Disney from other studios is something that not everyone will pick up on but it is still there, and that yes Disney is special from other studios, just like you think certain animes and such put more effort and specialness into what they make.

So you would argue that Buck from Home on the Range is more "special" than Altivo from El Dorado? You can't possibly make a legitimate argument for that.

Just because the name "Disney" is plastered on it does not make it "better" than anything else that is actually of the same quality. And that is the only argument you ever use. "Disney = good, Everything Else = bad." It simply isn't true.

What IS true is that Disney has, over the years, produced films/characters that ARE of the highest quality; higher than anything any other animation studio has ever been able to put out. But the fact that Disney did make the best animated films of all time does not mean that when they are at their lowest quality (ie HotR, Chicken Little), they are still "better" in any way than another studio.

I didn't see Home on teh Range, but if you read a few posts back, I said that was the only horse that looked kinda bad, and kinda un-Disney, and we'd like to pretend Home on the Range didn't exist.

And I blame that for that last effort Disney was trying to be different, to be like Dreamworks or some other studio, just because they didn't think people wanted to see classic Disney anymore. And of course, they were wrong.

My main point was that Disney keeps it's own special unique identity in it's art and stories (most of them, but perhaps all of their theatrical stuff so far, even if it's only the smallest semblance of Disney), but yes, that every studio that put specialness and effort is also special and have their own identities, like Miyazaki's work.

Sorry but the guy who have posted on Twitter that he saw the trailer was not totally true as he was speaking about the previous leaked unfinished trailer we all saw days ago and not about the long awaited upcoming official full trailer.

ugh, dangit! How much longer will Disney make us wait! Toy Story 3 is almost in theatres! They just need to post the darn thing online in good resolution already!

Honestly, at this point, I almost think it's worth it to wait. I mean, in ten days you'll be able to see it on the big screen, in 3D. Watching it like that will give you a much better sense of what the film will really be like. A whole lot better than watching it at an iffy resolution on a tiny computer screen.

I just wish Disney would leak out more info about this damn movie instead of keeping us waiting.

I love that Rapunzel is an artist. Very original and a smart move by the writers/directors. It makes her unique and I can see many children identifying with Rapunzel. You know, finding peace of mind in art she spends her days locked up. I was very introvert as a child and also found my peace in drawing. I guess something so basic and human makes Rapunzel more interesting than just another Disney princess.

And I love that the movie is about Rapunzel learning to stand on her own feet instead of representing some sort of statement about portrayal of females in Disney films, like Tiana or Mulan. Not that I don't like those characters. I love those. But the discourse around those films and the people arguing over it can ruin my enjoyment of the characters. I wanna see Tiana just for what she is. Not for what everyone thinks she should be.

Did anyone catch that episode of 30 Rock a while back where they're arguing over the ethnicities of Disney princesses and suddenly Jenna (the brilliant Jane Krakowski) goes "uhm, excuse me, but there hasn't been a white Disney princess since 1991!".... The entire discussion was priceless and it almost felt like the writers of the episode had monitored this forum. Well anyway, my point is, it's nice to see Disney creating a simple princess again for once. This time without the burden of having to represent all sorts of things.

So I spent part of my morning at the hat building, and either there is new (unfinished) animation for Tangled up in the long entry hall or I haven't been paying attention ...

The stuff looks good, but since there is no sound nor final texturing or lighting, it is difficult to tell much of anything.

(Or maybe my imagination has grown dull from age and overuse.)

Upstairs the animators are putting in looong days. "It's been a grind. And we've got six more weeks of it ..." (Sixty-plus hour weeks, if my sources are correct.) I have found artists in the building who aren't totally enthusiastic about Tangled story and arcs, but one animator told me today:

"I'm pretty hyper-critical, but I think Tangled's story really works. I didn't always think that, but they've gone on tweaking and refining it, and yeah. It's good."

(Note that I have no opinion myself, since beyond the gorgeous images on various computer screens -- and everyone is pretty unanimous about those -- I know next to nothing about T's plot and characters. The only detail I'll point out (yet again) is that Flynn Rider's costume is close to Geoffrey Thorpe's outfit in The Sea Hawk. Intentional? You be the judge.)

I think it's only natural that they're making her more independent and give her some more girl-power than the princesses from way back. That's nothing new... Ariel, Belle, Pocahontas, Esmeralda, Meg, all independent. What I mean is that Rapunzel looks and feels to be right in line with Ariel and Belle because like I said, she doesn't have the burden of representation.

There have always been "independent" Disney heroines - I mean, think about Alice and Wendy - they were not about to be told what to do.

But there have not always been these "talented" leading ladies.

What could Snow White do, or Aurora, or even Jasmine?

(Cinderella isn't even 'talented' so much as she is hard working...)

... but now we have Tiana, a wonderful cook and followed by that Rapunzel, a great artist.

I like seeing these leading ladies not only being independent like Mulan and Pocahontas, but also having a talent they put to good use!

Great choice on the part of the animators/writers!
