I'm watching Treasure Planet right now. I love this movie, the colors, characters, plot, are just fab! Disney shouldn't be hiding this movie!

I totally agree with you Lorddh
I love the movie as well: original characters, great screenshots, treasure stry, pirates ( my nephew just loved it from the beginning till the end)
As you said they shouldn't be hiding this movie, it's a Classic be proud of it !!!!

I'm waiting for the release of this on blu and I hope they give it what it deserves. Only cause it didn't become a hit in the theater, doesn't make the movie a bad film. They didn't do their advertising very well. So they're to blame.

But I just dislike how Disney treats some of its films... :/

Absolutely, I feel the same way Lorddh ( again ). A blu with a lot of extra's like the making of, a few games, early drawings, interviews with the animators and voice characters, some pirate stuff, how they make the 3D work in the film etc....

So do I, every Classic a worth the efford and not just the blockbusters like Beauty Aand The Beast or The Little Mermaid

Absolutely, I feel the same way Lorddh ( again ). A blu with a lot of extra's like the making of, a few games, early drawings, interviews with the animators and voice characters, some pirate stuff, how they make the 3D work in the film etc....

TP is one of my favourites. i just cant get enough of it. i love the character design, the backgrounds, the story, everything! morph is great and the captain cracks me up ["zip your howling screamer" gets me everytime] and doppler has a few funny moments with using the wrong words.

Um...no...in Treasure Planet, science has made possible a whole world (actually, a whole space!). In the other movies, more or less we have fictional places set in the real world where impossible magical things happen. Even the animals that come to life in those and so many Disney films is something I would not call science fantasy.

Of course Treasure Planet is as much of a fantasy film as the others 2099net mentioned. Surely, fantasy is something with no basis in reality, therefore Treasure Planet is a fantasy, the same as Pinocchio is in that wooden puppets can't be turned into humans, or Cinderella, as birds and mice do not make dresses. Where are these rules and guidelines you've subscribed to?

Rod Serling once said of science fantasy: "Science fiction makes the implausible possible, while science fantasy makes the impossible plausible." I think that applies well to Treasure Planet. And to an extent, any Disney film with something out-of-the-ordinary or, dare I say it, magical. Magic and Science are really the same concept, but with different approaches. Both study how the universe "works", but interpret the results differently. Might as well throw in Religion as well.

This is getting freaky but in a good way .
We are indeed SO meant to be, The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie as well , then comes Alladin AND Beauty & The Beast but as you said even I love all the Disney movies ( some more some less) en they have indeed their own special magic

And that is what I think so special about TP...
The adventure in space, the incredible ( how do they think of it) characters ( especially Morph ), the plot, the backgrounds, the design EVERYHTING! It' wasn't done before at Disney Classics ( I think, correct me if I'm wrong) and still it didn't got the succes it was supposed to get...

Well, I'm new here but this shouldn't matter, I think.

Some days ago I've watched the movie for the first time and were impressed by it. In my humble opinion it was just ahead of it's own time. The audience wasn't ready for such a Disney Motion Picture. Would Disney release it nowadays it might have been a huge success:

1) It was a nice spin on the Treasure Island Storybook.

Honestly, I don't understand most people. First of all they're nitpicking about the artistic style and on the other hand they always want something different, fresh and new. And yes, TP was some kind of mix of all of them. You had the classical design with steampunk elements and some creativity. I don't think it's reasonable to blame the creators to put a nice spin on the over-used Treasure Adventure Storytelling.

2) The Main Characters

Oh well, that was really the juicy meat. I really liked how they developed Jim Hawkins during the story. He started as a punk. I always wondered what's about the grey shade around his eyes but it seems so that they wanted to show how lost and burden he really feels without telling it the audience.

On the other hand, Silver was a fine antagonist for himself. I really enjoyed how he couldn't resist his new motivations and the struggling with his goals. You didn't care for the story because you already knew how it will end. The whole movie was just about the Jim/Silver conversations and how it will play out in the end. The secondary characters were your usual plot devices and most of them did their job right.

3) The big Disney trolling

Without to spoil the fun for the people, who haven't watched it: The official trailers are fakes. They don't promise what the story is really about. Sure, you got the adventuring, the action, the good-looking graphics and all that stuff but this isn't the reason why you want to watch this movie. I think, Disney tried to hide the fact that the movie wasn't just a simple adaption of a classic tale. You can see and feel many shades from The Lion King and Brother Bear in the movie, they tried to gear the movie towards older children, broken families and a far more adult audience.

Overall I would say that it is one of the strongest movies from Disney due the fact that TP don't want to show you a unrealistic fantasy story. It was about struggling in life and how important people can really be. People come and leave during lifetime but what really counts is how the affect you. And that's what TP is all about.

I adore Treasure Planet. Honestly, I don't really understand why so many fans DISLIKE Treasure Planet. I think it's one of Disney's best movies period. The story is solid, the characters are realisitic and complex, the animation is superb (even if some of it doesn't quite mesh), and the music is just right. The only thing that really irks me about the movie is the pirates (minus Silver and Scroop). They can get irritating, but even they are minor flaws compared to the flaws in much more beloved DACs. Despite all the wonderful aspects of the film, sadly it seems like the majority of its fanbase come from Jim fangirls. Just look at YouTube.

I think I was a Jim fan<strike>girl</strike>boy when this film first came out, too, so I can't blame them... He's still one of my favorite male protagonists.

To me, Treasure Planet is one of my favorites.

An adventure movie WAY better than Atlantis.

I've only seen Treasure Planet once but I remember thinking I don't hate it. Not as bad as I was prepared to expect.
