"If I never knew you" was the best re-insertion into an animated classic title yet. (of course, when we're comparing it to Human Again and Morning Report being the best isn't that tough a challenge...) It was seemless, I almost couldn't tell that it wasn't part of the original. I think it was how well the new animation was able to match that really sold it effortlessly.

That's just not accurate. I've shown the film to multiple people who had never seen it before. Before we watch I ask them to make a note of which song they think was added 10 years later and tell me when we're done with the film. Something There, Gaston, and Be Our Guest have been the three that almost everyone chooses. No one has guessed Human Again. And when I tell them which one, they are usually incredulous. One girl even said the movie simply wouldn't work without the song.
Obviously it does. But the fact remains that, except for us old fans, this song WAS seemlessly re-inserted back into the film.

I agree. It's my favorite of the Disney love songs. It's re-integration into the film is really what propelled it to my top 10 favorite Disney animated movies.

I feel the same way. Before, it was a movie I liked. Now, it's a movie I love. And that one song has made all the difference.

Out of curiosity, does anyone remember if Disney showed the special edition of this movie at the El Capitan Theater? I'm working on a list of my favorite Disney movie songs, and I plan to only use songs that were shown theatrically.

I don't think the finished Extended Edition was ever at El Capitan.
If we wanted to get technical, "If I Never Knew You"
was shown theatrically. During preview screenings (which I'm sure takes place in theatres

), "If I Never Knew You" was still a part of the film. It got cut very late in the production because impatient kids were shifting around in their seats. Many adults, on the other hand, considered it one of the best songs in the movie.

It still plays during the credits.

Yes, but that could be because the scene where Belle is teaching the Beast to read interrupts the song. So people's natural reaction would be that that one wasn't put in afterward, because of the scene in the middle. Obviously it could be (and was), but some people would just automatically think that because of the scene in the middle, it wasn't.
