Odd. I tend to think of The Lion King as being a pretty bonus-loaded release---the second disc alone has about 2 hours' worth of extras.

I think that the problem with the TLK DVD is that the bonus features aren't as organized as they could be. There isn't one long documentary- there are a bunch of featurettes or segments in the different "countries", and some of them overlap, if I remember correctly.

It probably is a bootleg. So when you buy the re-release, you know you won't be disappointed 
Bambifan, after seeing Bambi the second time, I started to think that "The Lion King" felt like an updated version of Bambi. With 1990s cinematic sensibilities and a different setting. Both films are great, both films are so terrifying and both films are so... Disney.

As far as bonus features go, there isn't ONE single trailer on the DVD for TLK. How can you have a platinum edition without one trailer for the film. There are no interviews with the cast (Whom are all still alive), and worst of all, the few bonuses they do have are all over the second disc two or three times.
Yes, TLK is pretty much a remake of Bambi except with more of modern technology and things that they couldn't do in 1942, don't get me wrong, without Bambi there is no way they would have made the film the way it was today. The greatest comparison between the two I think is the wondeful scores of both.

Get a laserdisc player and find the CAV boxset! LOL
But seriously, the extras are good if you re-author them... but the menus suck are the most confusing of all the PEs. The actual movie itself is just a joke... it may look good but it's not anywhere near the original theatrical version!!

I have seen the LionKing in the cimema, bought the soundtrack, watched the stage-musical version and I have the 2 disk special edition (replacing my VHS copy). So I guess I'm a fan.. But my inintial enthousiasm for the movie has somewhat waned.
This is because the movie's message gives me an ucomfortable feeling. Look at the opening scene: brilliantly done, animation wise, but what you see is prey -animals gathering to cheer for and bow to a creature that eats them.
TLK story is a bit of an odd mixture between naturalism, shakeseparian drama and La Fontaine fables and the point of it all, that Simba should take his place "In the Circle of Life' sounds a bit hollow and artificial.
Most Disney movies have a simple but clear message, the message of TLK is muddled to me. Mufasa's explanation to his son about why they can eat zebra's and respect them as well because the Lions become grass for the zebra's to eat, so everything is balanced etc. I know well, but it's not satisfying.
No one else has that problem with the story?

Wow, I've never seen a film where people either hated or loved the music. I personally this this is some of Elton John's best work. To think, Can you feel the love tonight was almost not in the film, but was placed in at the last seconds and won the Oscar for best song haha. Up there with Bambi as my top few greatest films of all time.
When will a new edition be out? Hopefully they will put in the old croc's singing instead of those 3D logs they replaced them with. Original Theatrical presentation my butt.

I have The Lion King PE and I think that it's the lamest Platinum Edition ever.
The menus are difficult and aren't organized,the features aren't goof and most of them are silly games and the CGI Zazu is awful.

OK, don't shoot me, but I really liked the Platinum Edition of The Lion King.
The menus aren't really confusing, there's just different ways to reach them. And The extras are really good better than most Platinum Editions even.

Most of the features were silly games like "Which animale is doing this sound?".
Anyway I thought it was the weakest,Bambi was good,Cinderella and Aladdin were really great but had weak features (Like the annyoing the feature with that little girl and the sports game on Cinderella PE) and I thought that The Little Mermaid PE and Sleeping Beauty PE were the best PEs.

Sleeping Beauty and The Little Memaid only have about 45 minute docs. Although we should hardly be surprised that you think 2 princess movies have the best DVDs.
Anyway the fact remains that Atlantis crushes everything in the platinum line up in terms of bonus features.

The Sleeping Beauty games were okay,the Aladdin games were dumber and the Lion King games were the dumbest.

If only every Platinum were as extensive as the Atlantis: The Lost Empire: Collector's Edition. Not even Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Aladdin (the two best Platinums when it comes to extras) come close to how great Atlantis: The Lost Empire's DVD is.

Which is so upsetting given that so much more can be said or presented for all the Platinums, especially the joke of a Platinum that is Peter Pan. Excellent movie, inexcusable treatment on DVD.
