The poster is meh. The trailer made me kinda dizzy. The editing and the transitions from shot to shot were incredibly fast and frantic. It was a lot of info to digest in such a short span. The plot is very paint-by-the-numbers. The entire look of the film is indistinguishable from every other 'adventure in the jungle' film. The Rock's acting is awful. Why do they keep casting him in so many movies? He plays himself in every single one. Even Emily's acting feels like a variation of her Mary Poppins performance. This movie is not for me.

In the Moana commentary Musker and Clements said they wanted to show The Rock can be vulnerable in the scene where Maui opens up to Moana, and they said they didn't understand why the films he's cast in didn't do it [it was something like that I watched it a long time ago].

Why do they keep casting him? Because he draws people to watch his films. That's what the studio cares about.

Does he though? It seems like he's put in tentpole films based on popular IP that people would watch regardless of who was cast.

Maybe that's true but they think he was the reason?

People really see what they want to see...

I honestly think it looks better than I imagined when it was announced. Lovely costume and production designs, great special effects (considering the majority of it was filmed in a studio) and charismatic leads. It looks like a good fusion of 'The African Queen', 'Romancing the Stone' and 'The Mummy'.

I think it looks like a fun popcorn flick! And like Old Fish Tale, it looks much better than i expected when I first heard about it. I wasn’t expecting a cinematic masterpiece and it looks like this will not exceed my expectations.

It looks like a high-octane remake of the African Queen which is worth the price of admission for me. Blunt looks good and Johnson is cast to his strengths. Still waiting for more from Whitehall’s character. This has much promise and I hope it delivers.

I think the reason Dwayne Johnson appears in a lot of movies is because of two reasons. The first is because he has a massive social media presence with hundreds of millions of followers across multiple platforms and studios see that as free publicity for their movies as he is constantly touting them online. The other reason is it seems like Johnson never turns any role down. I don't know how he is able to fit so many movies into his schedule, but the man is a workaholic who never slows down. He's an incredibly recognisable name known all over the world and appears to have worked hard to cultivate his image.

As for whether he brings people in on his name, his box-office stats are pretty interesting. Sotiris is correct in that his most successful movies are hits, because of the brand more than him. His seven highest grossing movies are Fast & Furious movies, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (which are also ensembles with other famous names sharing billing) and Moana (which was sold more-so on the Disney Animation brand). San Andreas, Rampage, Hercules and Central Intelligence were able to do well based on his name, although the latter also had the help of Kevin Hart. However, Skyscraper mostly had to rely on China (it was a Chinese co-production) in order to break even and Baywatch was only able to double because its production budget worldwide thanks to Germany's love for the television series.

I think if Jungle Cruise is a success, it will be because Johnson and Blunt are able to have winning chemistry and the movie succeeds at being a crowd-pleasing action adventure. I do get a bit of a Pirates of the Caribbean vibe from the trailers, so if the filmmakers are able to capture that same combination of exciting adventure and goofy fun Gore Verbinski was able to accomplish with the first Pirates, Disney has a solid hit on its hands. Jungle Cruise is one of the first of next summer's blockbusters we've gotten an official trailer for, so I wonder if that shows a lot of confidence on Disney's part.

I doubt it but we'll see.

I doubt it, too. This looks nothing like Pirates of the Caribbean. I don't dislike Dwayne Johnson. I didn't think he was good him for an animated film like Moana, but live-action comedy filler is pretty much his thing.

I was looking at the schedule for next summer and Disney has picked a good release date for Jungle Cruise. If the movie manages to be a four-quadrant crowd-pleasing adventure (which I think it will), it has August mostly to itself and could prove a late summer success.

Makes me think of the adventurer in the last season of Disenchantment. Anyway, a couple of old pictures from the original Jungle Cruise: http://www.experiencedzine.com/2013/06/ ... periments/

Yes yes YES !

So very very VERY excited for this ! Proper old school adventure romp. Dwayne is charming as ever, and Emily is brilliant in everything she does, this seems to be no exception. 100% channelling Evelyn O'Connor though for sure  ( esp with regards to the museum / 'I believe this has been mislabelled' ).
