Is it me or is the non-Disney live-action movie purposefully trying to create market confusion? A lot of people already think this is Disney's TLM. Their poster looks like a live-action version of the Disney one.

That movie might be why this one’s being put off a little longer (and not just because of Miranda).
The poster for that movie looks awful though. It makes it look like the Faerie Tale Theater episode.

I finally saw the commercial for the non-Disney TLM 2017 film. I don’t know, I think it looks a bit awful. I might like it for what it is, but not as an adaptation of the tale whatsoever. I like Shirley MacLaine and William Moseley (who's still as handsome as he was in the Narnia films), so I will check it out. Not expecting much out of it though.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Confirmed to Score Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’ Alongside Alan Menken
http://www.slashfilm.com/lin-manuel-mir ... an-menken/
This news was previously announced last year, but it was confirmed by Menken himself at the D23 Expo on Sunday.
Miranda is also reportedly producing the live-action film alongside Marc Platt.

I just wonder what Menken's real, unfiltered thoughts must be. I'm sure he's being polite and we'll never hear a bad word out of him via the media, but damn. I feel like I need to pop a pill everytime a new update comes for this.

I think Menken truthfully doesn't mind. He always seems to enjoy collaborating.
I dont think Miranda is bad per se. Glenn Slater didnt really provide any earth shattering songs for the Broadway show anyway. I'm more annoyed by Disney's insisting to use every latest Tony or Oscar winner to try and recapture the brilliance of Howard Ashman.
It cant be done.

I do think though he feels bad for Glenn Slater and Tim Rice who got the shaft. And I'm sure he must have been hurt for getting replaced on The Princess and the Frog, Frozen, and not being considered for Moana by his long-time collaborators Musker & Clements. He'll never admit this in public 'cause he's a class act but it's only human to feel this way.

I put that one on Lasseter. I still feel that M&C had limited control over Moana, not even being able to choose the medium they wanted. I doubt they would have been allowed to pick Menken at all.

I do too but I doubt Menken knows that.

Well, he has some pretty strong credentials. Just at a glance, seems like actors tend carryover from project to project occasionally (Cruz from Nine to OST, Depp from OST to ItW, Blunt and Streep from ItW to MPR, etc.). And LMM is involved with MPR, too... *sigh* If he were younger, Ben Wishaw would be a decent Eric, imo. Chris Pine wouldn't be too bad either. I definitely wouldn't be bothered if any actors like Firth, Walters, Streep, or Lansbury found a way into this somehow.

Ooooh, good, it's more and more likely it's happening! Well, why wouldn't it, it's a Renaissance film. I kind of don't care how bad this could turn out because it'll still be my third favorite Disney film come live, but I do hope it turns out good. We have Chicago to be hopeful for, but Into the Woods is a little ehhh, and I didn't hear On Stranger Tides was very good.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken will be providing the music for the film, Lin-Manuel took a lead role in Marshall’s upcoming Mary Poppins Returns. It remains to be seen if he’ll also join the cast, although, it seems very likely.

So a friend of mine thought Queen Latifah would be amazing as Ursula. I have to agree. What does everyone else think?

I'm a fan of her and she could definitely pull it off.

There is some rumors about Katherine Langford, the star of 13 Reasons Why.
Maybe she will be "Ariel" in the Live-action movie.

I really loved her in 13 Reasons Why although I don't see Ariel when I look at her. But I guess that's the costume and makeup department's job to transform her. I'm hoping she can sing though, unlike Emma Watson.

I personally hope not, but I guess she wouldn't be horrible.
I don't expect any of the actors for this film to be able to sing (I would like Bette Midler for Ursula more for her acting abilities, her being able to sing is just a big +). I'm not sure why anybody still is at this point. Most film musicals autotune everything to the nines. The only people from B&tB who could sing well (IMO) were Audra McDonald in a miniscule role and Josh Gad, another tertiary role. Could anyone in Into the Woods sing? James Corden, I guess, but from what I remember most of the vocals in that film were pretty wimpy and pathetic in comparison to the Broadway show's performances. I believe Lily James/HBC both croaked out something for the credits on Cinderella. Even outside Disney, the majority of modern film musicals do not feature real singers. It's a sad reality.
