They certainly are holding off though in 'crowning' them aren't they ? No Princess has ever taken this long before. I guess they are still pushing the Frozen marketing before they slot them into the line ?

Speaking of which; What are your thoughts about "The Glow"? Do you like it or not?

I like it but I prefer "If You Can Dream".

Honestly, I don't think they are. Yes, the initial plan was to include them but since then Frozen has become a merchandising juggernaut and has grown into one of Disney's biggest properties. It doesn't make any business sense now to include them in the Disney Princess line and risk diluting the Frozen line and diminishing its impact on the market. If costumers could get Anna and Elsa bundled together with other princesses, they wouldn't be bothered to buy them separately as part of the Frozen line. Similarly, licensees wouldn't pay double to get both properties when they could just get one that has characters from both.

I wish they would demolish the whole princess line and do separate merchandise for all the Princess instead of just the core four.

Okay, then we can agree to disagree :) Just wondering, why haven't you answered my previous questions, about your opinions about "Frozen" and "Pocahontas"?

Who are the core 4? Cinderella, Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle/Aurora...?

I would have said Ariel, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Aurora I suppose. I think Belle has been pushed more to the side since Rapunzel come along. I don't really see her at the front of merchandise any more.

Disney Korea is releasing a Disney Princess merchandise line that includes Elsa.

They are also putting on a Disney on Ice show that only includes Frozen and the Disney Princesses.

Looks kind of messy with the old, endlessly used clip art and them still being CG ? Just looks a bit funny to me ...

Anna and Elsa have been promoted a lot alongside the other Disney Princesses already, so all of this new merchandise really isn't that groundbreaking. Disney Japan has had a line featuring the seven core princesses (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, and Rapunzel) with Anna and Elsa. The Korea one seems similar to that, just that they are using the older American artwork.

Disney on Ice has long been a compilation of various films. Note that this one doesn't even label it as Disney Princesses on Ice. The last time they were labeled like that, it actually focused on the princess lineup roster. They're just putting the main focus on Frozen and then to get an even extra push, including 3 of their most popular princesses.

The two soundtracks are just labeled as Disney, not Disney Princess. It's not much different than some of their typical albums which feature songs from a wide variety of their films, not just the princess ones.

Basically, I don't think any of this is really hinting towards Frozen joining the lineup anytime soon. Frozen is too big for them to dilute amongst the princesses. Adding Anna and Elsa would be akin to adding Tinker Bell and Minnie Mouse to the princesses, two character who are also huge Disney heroines, but can sell themselves. The princesses sell better as a franchise. Also Frozen has been able to ward off the typical complaints that the princesses get (not boy friendly, not female empowered) so putting Frozen by the princesses would lose those precious markets that Disney has tried so hard to reach. Also Frozen 2 will be coming out soon enough, and no way will they merge Frozen with the princesses when they know that they can basically kickstart the already lucrative Frozen franchise soon enough.

I'm not surprised they're generally keeping Anna/Elsa separate (for now, at least) since there are still additions coming to the Frozen franchise (the sequel, the musical, etc.), but the DP line already has a couple characters popular enough to sell themselves, too--I'd say Ariel and Cinderella, certainly. Snow White and Belle come from films with fanbases that don't generally care about anything else from Disney, and Rapunzel probably does well on her own, too (unfortunately....).

I think the reason they're all wrapped up in the DP line is probably more to help characters that might be lower-sellers if alone, like Aurora, Jasmine, Tiana, Pocahontas, etc. Plus, it does create a sense of "Gotta catch 'em all!" I admit that's part of the reason I bought a Funko Pop figure of Jasmine, because I felt the princesses wouldn't feel "complete" without her there. That's brainwashing I must've got while a child.

I still remember the first piece of "Disney Princess" merchandise I saw (and ending up owning) as a child was a cassette with a very pretty cover. They even made a sequelnot long after.

Don't know about anyone else, but is anyone intrigued/bewildered by the Dreamy Handbell CD? Is it an album of handbell renditions of classic Disney songs? :? :shifty:

Well, it's about time.

And while this may seem irrelevant, "The Princess and the Frog" were actually released with the Disney Princess logo.

Claire Suddath, writer for Bloomberg Businessweek, talked to Hasbro about their newly-acquired licenses of the Disney Princess and Frozen brands and confirms that the two franchises are being kept separate.
Q: You note in your piece that Frozen has been separate from the rest of these princesses. Why Disney made that decision to do that?

Claire Suddath: So, the way that they do this is... The princesses are one brand and whenever they have a new [princess] movie come out, it's its own thing because it has its own merchandise and then as it gets older, it gets rolled into the princess [franchise]. But Frozen is so ridiculously popular that... It's huge. It was the top toy brand last year with, I think, $530 million dollars worth of toys sold, which is crazy. So, they decided to make a sequel, which they'll release in a few years and because of that they're keeping it separate for the time being.

Q: Will the Frozen and Disney Princess brands be kept separate permanently or only until Frozen 2 gets released?

Claire Suddath: I don't know about permanently but there are no current plans to combine them any time soon.

Unless 2 does badly, you just know there'll be a 3. Studios never stop at 2 when 3 can be promoted as a trilogy. I just hope I'll enjoy them as much as the original film and the short right now.

In international versions of TV spots and promos for the new Disney Princess campaign "Dream Big, Princess", Anna and Elsa are included (but oddly Aurora is not). Disney needs to make up their minds already. Are the sisters part of the franchise or not? They can't have it both ways.
