How can you call them morons if they do so well? They did the same thing as Bridge To Terabithia (advertised it as if it were Narnia) and it was very successful. I don't think you should call them morons just because they don't do something the way you would do it.
I'm calling them morons because they've made everything that isn't Pixar or Tim Burton crash and burn the last few years. And of course the ads for Tangled were horrible.

But sure I applaud them for finally getting it right. It's sad that all integrity had to be thrown out of the window.

What two instances are you referring to exactly? I've seen the film a few times and didn't notice Rapunzel pushing Gothel up against the wall. When Gothel breaks the mirror, it's her own fault, she yanks her hand away from Rapunzel's grip and loses her balance and knocks over the mirror. There was no shove or push by Rapunzel there at all. That was the only instance where I could see maybe you would think something like that happened.
I agree. I saw the film a second time yesterday and remembered Jackoleen's comments so I was actually watching for this. I agree with Dancing Crab's summation of the first instance. The second instance, I think, was where Mother Gothel leans in to stroke Rapunzel's hair and Rapunzel grabs Mother Gothel's forearm to stop her. While that would certainly be frowned upon in the school yard ("I will keep my hands, feet and all other objects to myself") I think it is a perfectly understandable response from someone who has just realized she has been manipulated by this woman her whole life. Rapunzel is taking her power back here. I don't think I would classify it as domestic violence (I don't mean to put words in anyone's mouth . . . that was just my recollection of how someone classified it).

SPOILER ALERT

For those who were dissatisfied at Rapunzel's lack of any compassion for Mother Gothel after Rapunzel figures out she is the lost princess, I also noticed (and it is very brief) that right before Mother Gothel falls out the window, Rapunzel reaches for her with a look horror on her face. It may not be as Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood as some would like, but for me, it was enough to show that Rapunzel had not thrown away all humantiy (again, not trying to put words in anyone's mouth here).

The amazing this is also that Tangled made only 1 million dollars less then Harry Potter. And the total figure expected for Potter is 83 million, a difference of merely 10 million dollars. Which is amazing, considering what people were expecting!

I am so glad this is succeeding. It's a wonderful film and there's a lot of word of mouth going on for not only the little ones, but also adults–it composes essentially a third of updates on my Facebook feed at the moment (a friend of mine just saw it for the second time).
blackcauldron85 wrote:Maybe that's why so many of us like it...? It definitely had "Kiss the Girl" vibes, but I adore "Kiss the Girl"..
Oh, I love "Kiss the Girl", too! (Although that one shot of Ariel's forehead in the scene has always freaked me out.) I really liked that "I See the Light" paid homage to it.
phan258 wrote:If anyone was wondering about the monkey in the turban, the artbook says there was a scrapped idea to have Flynn & Rapunzel meet a band of gypsies....so I'm guessing that's where it's from.
Huh! I think Bastion looks Romani (and that would have fit in with the apparently abandoned 1800s direction for some of the concept art), so perhaps that was a last remnant of Bastion.

Did anybody else notice that the pub thug who is sent to go get the guards is an old design of Flynn's? The friend I saw this with (not a Disney freak by any stretch) noticed he was wearing the same colors as Flynn. I really wish I could find a picture, but I know that design is definitely in the art book–it's the design that's halfway between bear!Flynn and our Flynn.

And I have a question–when Flynn and Rapunzel are in the bookstore or library looking through an atlas, was the map a normal map of our world? My friend swears it was, but I'm not sure. It would certainly explain the Mozart reference if the Kingdom is one of those fictional bonus European countries…

I just remembered the one problem I had with Tangled :P
I felt that When Will My Life Begin and Mother Knows Best were too close, it was almost like song and song right after the other to me, I don't know why and doubt they were, it just felt that way.

That probably is why they decided to take out WWMLB reprise 1, and edit down the length of Mother Knows Best. Had to get to the Flynn action before boys started getting antsy. lol
