I know, hahaha. It looks light brown to me. Of course it's not dark brown how her hair is. But then again that's how we brunettes are, lol. I have ash brown hair and sometimes it looks golden brown, etc. So it's kinda realistic

Some more tidbits from the "Beyond Beauty" documentary I'd like to share:
- Disney got Jeffrey Katzenberg to record new interview footage again. Some of his old interview footage from the Little Mermaid Platinum DVD documentary seems to be re-used as well. In general the animators speak really positively about Katzenberg's leadership.
- You can see Glen Keane drawing the Beast right on the spot while doing a new interview.
- They got Howard Ashman's sister and even his partner to appear in new interviews. There's also old footage from Ashman's memorial service where Jodi Benson sings "Part of Your World", and photos of young Ashman including one of him playing Peter Pan in a school play.
- They included the Doorknob clip from Alice in Wonderland because the animators had used it as a reference for drawing the enchanted objects.
- There's a few stunning HD shots of Bambi, Cinderella, Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp (though oddly the latter is in the 1.78:1 ratio instead of 2.35:1)!
Although the new documentary is truly enjoyable and informative, I want to restate that its lack of subtitles and, more importantly, rewind/fast-forward capability is frustrating to say the least. You can't even see your progress cos the time bar is rendered defunct! This is probably the only thing on this set that I'm really unhappy about...

I assumed that this was the reason why it was included, as well as the small selection of Silly Symphonies (all of them feature objects coming to life). Anyway, sorry to repeat myself, but I really want this. It looks soaking awesome.

Disney's Divinity wrote:Btw, are there supposed to be any coupons for this release?
Yes, there is a coupon and I think it's still available. All you have to do is go the the Disney Movie Rewards website, log-in, and enter the full UPC code from a VHS copy into the "Magic Code" box. I believe the coupon is only good for about a week following the release, so make sure you don't wait too long to head to the store!!
I'm excited for this release. I am not sure if I'll be heading out on Oct. 5 to get it, but I probably will. If so, it will be my first release day purchase! I just started updating my VHS collection and bought all the previous Blu-ray/DVD well after they were released.

Matt, how on earth is that "red"?
Also is Cogsworth not reanimated at all in the Special Extended Edition (as they call it) or just in the theatrical release?

Are those the people for or against the revision?
I’m not getting it, which is why I asked where I could get the LaserDisc version earlier. I’ll be renting the Blu-ray of this from my library (for free) day one to watch the extras (never owned the Platinum Edition, so they're all new to me) and then hopefully watch the original (LaserDisc) version fo the movie right afterwords. That’s the plan.

Not sure if you have PM abilities or not. If so, then the owner of an infected chicken may be able to help you.

My PM does work, but I don’t see the harm in posting it on the forums, as Disney technically isn’t making this version available to those willing to pay. I’d only feel guilty if I was pirating material that was currently being made available by Disney. That's like feeling guilty for pirating the original version of a song when the company will only sell the cover by another band. Same song, different feel.

The whole damn scene has a reddish overlay:

I'm starting to feel the red overlay in the ballroom scene is more effective and less cold. The ballroom is obviously powered by Lumiere's magnificent lighting and so should be glowing
The blu-ray screen caps appear much closer to the 3D version (which I personally believe is the closest to the "original colors") than the PE. I LOVED the 3D version (moreso than the laser disc, which is simply too dark..., I can't imagine a theatre screening a film this dull), so I'm rather happy with the blu-ray already. And when I feel like watching the darker version, I'll just load up my laserdisc/VHS (which is just as beautiful!)

The first screencap looks washed out...and there seems no lighting...I think the second one represents a more accurate detail of lighting.
ok so the animators/directors who came back and said this is how their film should be and you are saying it's not right?? I can see an arguement for Snow White or something without direct input from the creators but these are the people who made it!

some proof that the 'come into the light' scene shouldn't have been too revealing of the beast.

It's a room filled with burning candles, did you expect a cold look

Wait, I thought it was lit with candles, not pink flood lights?
CampbellzSoup wrote:ok so the animators/directors who came back and said this is how their film should be and you are saying it's not right??
Did they? I never knew they came out and officially confirmed that the alterations in the color scheme were intentionally made by the directors. Red chairs, purple night skies, pink snow...I don't buy it.
Even if they did do the tampering themselves, out of courtesy to the fans, they should make the unaltered version available. To push their new version as the only version reminds me of someone...
Yeah, I saw that Disney posted that 20/20 special a couple of weeks ago. I don't think that's even a supplement on the Blu-ray/DVD, is it? Probably trying to avoid any supplements that may still have hints of the original color scheme.

With a ceiling that high in a room that large (not to mention the rest of the castle), I doubt those candles would keep anyone warm

Where is the pink snow? That's the first time I've heard any mentioning about that at all. And I don't see what's wrong with red chairs, personally

There are candles on the walls too. And it's a freaking movie, an animated one, no less. The warmer look makes it more romantic than the colder one.

In this picture, do you see how in the top one, the original colors one, you can see there is light coming from the candles (behind the pillars). It is a candlelit room, and a candelit room would not be filled with light, it would be dark with only
some light, like candelit dinners, the most romantic light. But in the bottom picture, the light isn't just coming from the candles, the whole image is glowing with absurd light!

See, if the "whole damn scene" has that overlay then its not a hair color issue, it's a lighting one. the people making claims that they made her a redhed would have a point if that was the only change, but when skin tone, walls, etc become redder there's no reason to call her a redhead.
when we are shown characters at night turn blueish under a night sky do we call them smurfs? no, because everything else has changed too. I'm not saying I agree with the change, but lets not single out one thing like her hair.

That is the worst excuse ever. This misguided way of thinking must be spreading because I run into more and more people with the belief that if a movie is animated; it suddenly gets a pass for having annoying characters, overly bright colors, poorly written script and/or character development, terrible casting, bad pacing, etc. Animated or not, all movies should be held up to the same standard, with nothing but budget affecting decisions.
I guess what I'm saying is they were originally going for a realistic feel with more natural lighting and colors. A decade later they must've just then realized it was a cartoon and wanted to change all that to reflect that revelation. IDK, but it certainly affects the feel and intensity of the whole movie.

That's all very nice, but the bottom one refers to the older DVD version, while the new one is in fact darker. Check the Blu-ray.com review for screenshots. From what I've seen and read, the new version looks great, but it probably won't be up to your standards, while the laserdisc does. Your loss.
