If you have a multi region DVD player you can get the JPN DVD. You will get propel subtitles and they will be timed correctly. Plus you will get the old JAL English dub as a bonus.

It seems Disney has removed the extra dialog from there Castle in the Sky dub just liked they did to Kiki. I've been hearing conflicting report about if they also removed the updated score or not.

Well now I'm just beyond confused.

According to the UD review, the literal Japanese translations are indeed on the new disc. Aaron makes it a point to say that he doesn't have the 2003 disc for reference, so the 2010 DVD must have been the only one he watched. He even says in the review that upon watching the film and comparing, he noticed the script changes that Disney made when they dubbed the film.

So apparently the Japanese script translations are indeed on the 2010 disc, but every scene I spot-checked, both English sub tracks were exactly the same, completely verbatim (and I spot-checked quite a few scenes).

Perhaps Aaron would be able to clear this up a tad? ^_^; His is the only analysis of the disc I've read that doesn't confirm the film is dubtitled.

The problems on the new Castle in the SKY dvd were revealed in a post on escapistmagazine.com forum. Can you look over this post aaron and confirm the info.

Thanks for the additional info. I'm going to go back and try to compare the whole new English dub versus the old one on <i>Kiki's</i>. Trying to figure out the best way to do that. Maybe Aaron can do something similar for <i>Castle</i>.

Wow, now I'm definitly glad I didnt get these films when they were first released cause the special features seem to be richer than before.

I will definitly need to get Castle in the Sky and possibly Totoro (despite the english dub being not so great ) and maybe Ponyo but I havent decided if I am gonna get the regular DVD or the Combo Pack. It would kinda pointless to get the Combo pack when the other Ghibli films are not in blu ray form.

Plus I also need money.

I just learned something new about the Ponyo blu-ray: that choosing the Japanese track triggers seamless branching to the original credits.

I like the fact that Disney is trying to make these older dubs more faithful to the original Japanese source but they should've at-least made the originals available for those who like them (yeah, it'd confuse soccer moms having two English dubs).

I consider dropping the Sydney Forest songs from Kiki's and dropping the expanded Joe Hisaishi orcastrated soundtrack from Laputa to be big enough changes to warrant inclusion (god knows the Blu-rays can hold them). The missing added dialogue doesn't bother me.

Does anyone know of the email address for Customer Service to see what I can do about the "fan voice" in KiKi's Delivery Service? After watching my old VHS and comparing the two, it really is rather bothersome and out of place. Thanks!

It might be an issue with the master, but i doubt it.

I'm tracking down the old DVD (which I do not have a copy of) to do the same thing. To clarify, what I noticed in the new DVD release is that the subtitles do not always match the dialogue spoken in English. I will take a closer look at the old DVD and try to come up with a truly comprehensive comparison of the audio dubs and subtitles on the two discs, rather than trying to compare what I've read about the old disc without actually having it in my possession.

I was just at the Autism Society Conference, and whe I mentioned that Ponyo was the last movie I saw, people stirred. Some kid said Ponyo is horrible(:x ) and that Castle In the Sky was his favorite movie, and a girl said My Neighbor Totoro was hers.

Why Im saying this is that a few people actually heard of Studio Ghibli!

I'll admit I only took a blind-buy at Howl's Moving Castle a few years ago because Pete Docter's name was on the back. When I watched it I was like, "Whoa, I gotta see what else this 'Miyazaki' guy made!" In a way, I probably would have never tried Studio Ghibli on my own because I have this perception of Anime that all of the characters have big eyes, huge guns, and a ton of action scenes.

But back on topic, scrolling through dvdtalk.com and blu-ray.com forums, you have to know people are addicts over there and they buy EVERY movie released whether they like it or not. So, for Ponyo, a mother posted she bought the movie, thinking it's just a kids film to keep her children occupied, but she said she hasn't heard a peep from them since she put it in. I get so excited when kids are mesmerized like that!

I just thought - now with Ghibli's new golden case art, which will be on every Ghibli release, it will be easier for people to spot Miyazaki and allows people to trust it.
